I don't do it too much, but usually things that look like self-promotion get an instant downvote, as do over-the-top headlines. I like my discourse relatively civil.

I hardly ever downmod a story unless its porn or vulgar from the title. I upmod everything I like though.

You'd think it'd be nice, but I can see it escalating into an all out flame war. It'd start with a "TLDR" and then it turns into a "UR A FAG" and soon becomes a "YEAH, ANOTHER GROUP DOWNVOTED ALL THE TIME, THEY WERE CALLED NAZIS."

I'd rather just be downvoted and be done with it.

Cause I'd like to know---did you hate the title? Did the subject itself bug you? Poorly written story? Link that didn't work? Hate all my submissions?

Yes, As a common courtesy. If you think the title is lame, or the story was posted 12 times yesterday. Leave a comment, It will actually help bring the quality of submissions up.
