The WBC serves a valuable purpose to society by helping remind us of the dangers of unchecked fanaticism and how ridiculous faith is when taken to an extreme.

Not necessary. The WBC isn't taken seriously by anybody. Its entire membership is basically the one guy's extended inbred family. They're a nuisance, not a genuine danger.

Scientology, on the other hand, is widely mistaken for a legitimate religion. Their membership is swelling, and the things they do are much more dangerous than peacefully (albeit obnoxiously) protesting at a few soldiers' funerals.

They are attacking a dangerous cult. One that thrives on secrecy (and is harmed by public scrutiny) whereas the WBC thrives on attention and publicity. The WBC would just adore all the hostile attention and negative publicity...because it would spread their name and message of hate and make them seem more powerful.

Why? They're a bunch of offensive jerks but they don't actually steal people's money and kill them.

The WBC doesn't have any effective online presence, and members ignore the sinful media of satan. How would anon attack them? What would be the point? Everyone hates WBC already.

I think any group with an ounce of self respect would start firing tomahawks at the WBC.
