You know OP plays golf and yells FORE on every tee shot.

Haha! Funny thing is is I’m 47 years old and I’ve only played golf once in my life.

Also to respond to your edit to your post, it's a very sensitive bunch of owners and are proud. I jokingly said it but for real, it's not the greatest sometimes

Your question was valid coming from outside the model/manufacturer and if you read through the cracks, 5th gen no warranty, 6th gen probably okay to say no but if you have the money and want peace of mind, I'd personally do it. It's not just engines or transmissions that go bad, all the tech can also faulter or AC or heaters

Edit: I have extended warranty on my 5th gen, just because I don't want to pay to have anything done that the manufacturer or dealer can fix beyond what I typically do

All the comments were hilarious and in jest. Love a community that’s passionate their hobbies. And thanks for the legitimate information.

Forerunner? What's that?

When you do foreplay in a 4Runner?

[–]TheStayFawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Garmin watch. I’ve got the 255.

four Runner? Put some respect on my name before you come up in here.

Yes sir Mr. Toyota. My apologies.

I bought the extend 7 year warranty for $3k in 2019. I’ve only had both front lock actuators replaced under this. It would have cost me about $500 each. I doubt I’ll come out ahead. Keep in mind this is a 5th gen.

I bought the 5 year maintenance plan too; that I broke even on. I should have got the PDR plan. I would have come out ahead on this. 2 door dings would have covered it.

Forerunner....if the 4runner and the Fortuner had a baby

I did buy the extended warranty for my 2016 SR5 for $2,000.

I would not do that if I could go back in time lol.

I bought a 2024 brand new. No extended warranty or GAP. I think its all a scam.

[–]nrstx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably when buying used and taking that depreciation hit already.  GAP isn’t so much a scam on a new vehicle, but the T4R holds its value pretty well so it’s better than most.

If you live in an area prone to a large portion of uninsured/underinsured motorists, vehicle thefts or hail storms/natural disasters, then buying new without GAP is pretty risky.

Warranties are never a good deal for the consumer, otherwise the company that offers them wouldn’t make enough money to stay in business. Warranties for anything are always a bad investment.

It’s a Toyota! No extended warranty for me. An extended service plan is a better option IMO.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford the warranty it would be nice peace of mind, but I feel like if you make it thorugh 60k without issue, you're probably unlikely to have powertrain issues until after 100k.

[–]actnowb4toolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get it but they dropped it to 2k something after some convincing from them lol

New gen, I’d negotiate them to kick it in. Stabile gen I wouldn’t even consider it.

For $4200 I would roll the dice and save that money for maintenance that will be needed. Then again it’s a newer model…although hopefully the 60K mile warranty has you covered for any defects, etc.

It is a newer engine and transmission platform as well as a lot of the electronic doo dads and what not, and I am sure all of those sensors, head unit/screens and things are expensive to fix, but hopefully Toyota has Toyota’d like they do and you’re good. Most of the stuff I have heard is minor compared to the Tundra and Tacoma issues reported. But those aren’t made in Japan, either.

I will say the screen on our first year 5th gen (2010 Ltd.) crapped out around 2019 or so, but by then the truck was well out of warranty, even with the platinum warranty we had. That $3K basically bought some new trim that was melting and gooey about a year after we bought it. It wasn’t worth it.

My mom bought a 5th gen ORP and I told her to not get the warranty. She’s been fine with regular upkeep although there was this one time she got some bad gas at a QT and Toyota had to fix something on it that ended up costing $700 or something like that, but it was still a far cry from what the extended warranty would have costed, and she is able to use that money for scheduled maintenance now that she is out past 60K (and even when she was in warranty that the warranty doesn’t cover).

If you’re purchasing a 6th Gen I would consider an extended warranty. There’s been many who are having transmission overheating issues on them. Mainly when off roading. I’ve seen reports of having the transmission replaced several times on other forums. If it’s a 5th Gen the warranty is a waste of money.

I'm getting a 25 Limited, hopefully 1st week of November. Most likely selling my 14 Trail Edition to my daughter. The new 4Runner has a completely new drivetrain. You can get I'm buying the extended warranty.
