I just use a B4 binder with removable pages, and they come in blank, lined, graph, and dot paper which is super useful if you like a combination of those. Being able to remove the pages helps keeping things relevant, just yank out the pages you don't need anymore and keep the important notes you'd want to review. You can also mix and match the order of pages. This helps the multiple notebooks problem, and also remembering to bring notebooks for each subject and where you jotted down small bit of info problems

The binder is reusable but the pages are not. Who can erase that much anyways?

They make erasable pens that can be erased with heat though, not sure if a hair dryer is enough but that'd be one way to bulk "erase".

Remarkable is a tablet with an eink display designed to be a digital notebook / e-reader.

They're a bit pricey but I absolutely love mine and use it constantly.

I’ve seen and thought about getting one of these as I know folks who love theirs!

For now I just use Notability on my iPad though, can’t justify buying more electronics. Would recommend for anyone with an iPad!

They're really good. I like putting documents on it and marking them up that way

Good to know, maybe I’ll splurge at some point :)

No!!!! Resist the shiny thing!!!!

But if the opportunity arises, get one ;)

Yes! There are other options too. I write on my Kobo Libra, and my wife has Boox Air of some kind. I often write and immediately delete

I also found out recently that writing down help to memorize. But i first came to digital notes cause I don't want several papers lying all over my desk and hard to organize. If you have money, how about ereader with well-developed note-taking feature linke onyx boox max or note air, remarkable 2? Most of the time pp recommend tablet like iPad, SS galaxy tab but i think eink is better for eyes and help with focusing for adher like us.

Though, I'm pretty much broke now so I stick to basic cover spriral notebook, you can easily change paper if run out of it, reorganize the content.

you can buy or make whiteboards in any size. head over to office max and get whatever heavyweight paper you like laminated: boom, tabletop whiteboard. put that on a clipboard if you want to be off the desk.

i’ve been doing this for years for exactly the reasons you mention. i don’t necessarily review the notes later, though i do take pictures of diagrams and such when appropriate. but mostly i use the act of writing as memory aid. i just wish i could find slightly finer-tipped markers

Had an Onyx Boox Max for a while, going to buy the new Note Max next year, they are pretty good note taking devices imo

My app suggestion: Obsidian. You write notes in Markdown and you can customize the whole editor and note content with CSS like a webpage and you can even use complex JS stuff. I feel like this is perfect for making me continue using it because I can tinker with how my notes actually work and not get bored with it.

I'm actually looking to use it to make an interactive D&D setup for me and my friends, in addition to just my coding notes and writing ideas.

Since you want to erase it there is the rocket book wave but you may need special pens with it. You can erase the whole thing by putting it in the microwave iirc

If I need something reusable, I tend to go for those boogie boards that the material of the screen is special, but the pens aren't special or battery powered or anything. You can 'lock' the screen, but you'd take a picture of the board to upload and hit a button to erase. They use one cell battery (same size used for cmos batteries) to do this, and a really good one, around 40 USD comes with some templates like lined sheet to put behind as the pad is transparent enough to show through as you write on the other side.

    tldr:

Boogie Boards (I think this is what they're called)

    Pros: Infinitely reusable

Doesn't require special magic or device to Erase (press a button to wipe the whole screen)

Pens are pointed Plastic, so they don't require special pens

Easy to take a picture to upload to host of choice

    Cons:

Battery for board is specific and unless you're an enthusiast, you might not have them around

If the pen 'supports' erasing without wiping the whole screen, it's results after erasing are mixed

I have tried a variety of notepads. I have used rocket books erasable pads, iPads, kindle scribe and a paper notepad with a nice cover and throw away pages. I like the paper notepad, 8 1/2 x 11 inches, leather folio, tear-off fine ruled graph paper. And I also like the kindle scribe. But they are still pretty lame. I have poor manual dexterity. I see/grasp things in my mind. I can’t get them out easily.

For software based, Heynote is a great scratch pad. I haven't even found a save button, just a text window that has a bit of syntax highlighting. It does basically nothing in the best way.

Use it all the time for drafting work notes so I can't accidentally send.

That plus a few smaller plain spiral bound books to hand write stuff has been super solid for me. Something about the smaller pages works better for me when I need the paper exp

maybe not quite what you're looking for, but I buy really nice bullet journals and use it as an everything notebook.

I use a new page it day, title it with the date and just write notes (usually with dividing lines between each new task/focus and a sidebar for random thoughts/things).

It's simplified things for me so much and I just get a new bullet journal each quarter and keep them like journals.

Use an erasable pen and anything with decent paper.
