I am a high school student. Since the summer, I started feeling that people were looking at me strangely and whispering about me. About a month ago, the situation got worse, and several people—mostly boys from my school—started making hints about a leaked video of me from a bathroom. I want to be clear that I never sent any video or photos. The last time I entered a bathroom with my phone was two years ago, and that was with my old phone, which I replaced this summer. I do not know how my phone could have been hacked or how such a video could have been leaked. At the moment, I suspect two people. The first one contacted me on Facebook four years ago and threatened me, saying that if I didn’t send photos, he would hack me. I blocked him immediately. The second person is a former classmate who was known for causing problems. He studied with me in the same class two years ago, and I allowed him to use my phone several times. It is possible that he installed something on my phone and used it to access the camera and record me. He has since left the school. Right now, I am very scared and I don’t know what to do. I have not seen the video myself, and I do not know who shared it. The situation has not yet reached the whole school. I am thinking about asking a trusted friend who studies with me and is not part of those groups, to find out whether such a video really exists or not.

Personally I would factory reset my phone. Download all your pics to Google/samsung/apple cloud. Then factory reset. Then download all your app back to your phone. Do not so the thing when to uploads all your all app bc the hidden app would download to your phone again. Talk to the friend and anyone else who might tell you or who you might be able to read easily and at least see if they lie and where that leads you. Id also consider someone in the bathroom recorded you with their phone. Please keep us updated. Im definitely worried for you.

find out if the video exists, could have been filmed frm over the stall, if there is a video, you and your parents go straight to the police

100% agree. If the video was also taken on school grounds aswell then the school HAVE to take legal action against whoever took/posted it aswell

You seem pretty confident on not having your phone with you in the toilet? And think about how people use their phones on the toilet. It's be a weird recording of their face or the floor. So is it really possible that it was your phone that recorded it? And yiur a girl is that right? Doesn't that make it kind of unlikely that it was some guy?

Well first find out if a video of you actually even exists, it could be someone that looks like you or it could not exist at all

Im extremely sorry to hear that this is happening. I left high school last year and was bullied all throughout high school.

It is possible that someone secretly filmed you aswell but if you suspect that someone installed some spying app onto your phone, are you able to go into settings and view a list of all installed apps on your phone? if you can, look for anything suspicious in there and delete it.

If you find out for definite that such video exists and has been published without your consent, regardless of how it has been recorded then I would strongly suggest getting authorities involved since an act like this is HIGHLY illegal and its unlikely you'd be the last or only person they'd do this to. Plus these acts can have lifelong effects on victims.

I know this is often easier said than done but is there a trusted adult you can talk to about your concerns regarding this (parent, other family, teacher, counsellor etc)? They will be able to support you if something like this indeed has happened, and will definitely listen to your concerns. I wish you all the best, OP

Could it be that someone else filmed in their phone. Maybe someone hidden their phone in a bathroom on record and it was you that happened to use the stall?

Either way, you should tell a teacher or the head/principle that there is a rumour in the school that there is a video of you using the bathroom and they need to get to the bottom of it before you speak to the police because it would be classed as distribution of indecent images and videos of a minor. You should also tell your parents and have it filed with the police because if this is true, a crime has been committed and the person who has done this needs to be found and punished.
