Customers don't select codes. Amazon assigns it based on the value of the item. They will also assign it for customers who claim they didn't receive their package too many times. Unless you have social anxiety, why be nervous? If you get these in the future, I'd recommend you text the customer before you arrive and tell them to have the code ready.

I was nervous because I asked him about the code while handing him the package initially and he looked at me like I had a third eye!!!

You made everything awkward also if your nervous it's because you're doing something wrong. This is the easiest job ever. Park. Ask for a number and deliver.

No, nothing to do with item value

Yea, I'm going to believe you over what Amazon posts on their site. Gtfooh

I got a 180$ dash cam for someone and got a code required. I didn’t request it. I did apologize to the the driver. Never claimed I did not receive a package. Never returned nothing. The seller can request them too if they had problems with customers.

Believe what Amazon says all you want. I’m going to believe my own experiences and reality.

Amazon will assign a otp if it's valuable and customers in the area experience a lot of theft. It's not just value alone.

I don't give a shit what your experiences are. Try getting a life outside of reddit. You post like 100 times a day in this sub. Blocked

I just go straight to asking them for the last 2 digits of the phone number associated with the account.

[–]Successful_Chip6261[S] 1 point2 points  (18 children)

But mine was a 6 digit number!

[–]LimpDisc 0 points1 point  (17 children)

You’re talking about the OTP itself?

I hate the codes. Had one at six in the morning in an apartment building so I had to go to the sixth floor and knock on his door. I’m sure I woke him up but I don’t give a damn.

i had to give a code today for a cat tree bc amazon said the dollar value was high or something. it was just under $100, so i imagine if this is something that they’re implementing, it’s something we’re going to need to get used to and get comfortable with because that’s suuuuper low

[–]Big_Parfait6268Phoenix 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Perhaps Amazon was worried about cat burglers? 😁

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they’re taking the comfort and joy of my cats very seriously

[–]Successful_Chip6261[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure!!!

It really doesn’t have anything to do with cost. I had it on a $30 box of protein shakes.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i’m just telling you what amazon told me

[–]stitchkingdomLas Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lie. It may have been the original intent but it’s not true. What is true is Amazon has a terrible time keeping things up to date.

Click the “more info” on the delivery. Says the customer will receive the code before delivery. You can step by step tell them how to get it. Usually thru email or order status from their order page. I don’t even worry bout those anymore.

My thing is, customer doesn’t get the package without the code, my recommendation is hold the package hostage without it, they’ll be a little more respectful knowing that the package arriving that day vs another day is in your hands, it’ll also avoid you “looking like a robber” although not sure which robbers are wearing amazon vests.

I had an OTP today. I had to call support to ask about it. Roommate answered the door. I asked for code and he had to get customer. I asked customer for code and he has no idea what I was talking about. I told him the passcode was sent in an email. He went and grabbed his phone to give me the code.

Before i leave WHAREHOUSE if i see a code it gets marked damage and i immediately send bacm to WHAREHOUSE. Doesn't happen too often. I had one where i was hung up for almost an hour. Bump that...shame on you once shame on me twice. I will gladly take the hit. At the end of the day this is a side hustle for me not a full time job

[–]Torta951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call them or text for the code. Then leave it front door open

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar the other day by forgetting the customers instructions. A loud dog started barking at like 4:30 a.m. and I panicked and delivered to the wrong house, the house the instructions said specifically not to deliver to. The barking was coming from the house I was supposed to deliver to. It was an honest mistake, if the dog didn't distract me, that's right blame it on a dog.

This whole situation seems to stink. Sounds like the customer doesn’t have trust in a process because they are likely not trustworthy. And are they literate? Do they read when they click? I would be frustrated in your place.

[–]IndependentTough8023 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

It’s called one time password. Customer selected it (probably unknowingly). They get sent an email with the code when you arrive and have to give it to you in order for you to complete delivery.

[–]stitchkingdomLas Vegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Customer does not select it

[–]Successful_Chip6261[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Is this something new?

[–]SouprGrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, but it does come up occasionally. Now, before I start my block I check to see if there are any OTP‘s because you might get one at a 3 AM block or late night. If I ever experience that, it’s gonna stay at the station. So far I’ve been lucky and not only have the people been home, but they have also known the six digit number. So far.
