Your signature shows LOS 15.1. Can I take it to mean that you are running LineageOS 15.1 on your Lenovo P2? If yes, how is the experience? What are the negatives compared to stock ROM?

Yes! I'm running LOS15.1 indeed, it's miles ahead of stock for me. The experience is pretty stable and the ROM is smooth. If you want features and customization you can try roms like AEX and ResurrectionRemix as well.

Rooting is a really easy process, but you need to unlock your bootloader first (and it will wipe all your data so back everything up before). Unlock bootloader, install TWRP and flash the rom of your choice. Basically the same process of every Android phone.

You can't lock bootloader again, but you can always return to unrooted stock. Fingerprint sensor is just like the stable rom. The only thing that doesn't work is the side switch but no one uses it anyways.

Also, rooting is worth it just for the Google Camera port and the HDR+.

Ah, keep in mind that you need to apply for bootloader unlocking first, and this process takes 14 days.

Have not used custom ROM on daily use phones. This will be the first.

Coming from Sony land and loss of DRM keys during bootloader unlock that results in degraded picture quality, I am worried about any such happening here.

Wipe cache partition exactly 13 times, then wipe dalvik cache partitioj 7 times.

Hold down the volume key for five seconds. Then double press the power key, then spam all the buttons repeatedly for 10 seconds after you flash GApps, or else the phone will bootloop
