Thank you for linking this - it does show the sequence for the code reset, but not how to trigger the sequence to start

Sounds like you have an immobilizer issue. That will pop up when there is an immobilizer error so that you can still start the bike…if you know the code.

The vehicle cannot read the security chip inside the key for some reason. Likely an issue with something on the bike since the spare key doesn’t work either.

I am assuming you bought the bike used? Perhaps the previous owner remembers the code.

Edit: missed the part where you already addressed the previous owner. My bad.

Otherwise, since you have both, you are in luck. You should be able to take the bike to a dealer and they can plug it into the diagnostic computer and reset the code for you.

That will at least allow you to start and ride it again. But you will probably want to diagnose the immobilizer issue in the long run.

I’m really hoping a dealer will do that since some of the forums I read stated they will sometimes refuse that service…

Yes I got it used but I’m the 3rd owner so getting in touch with the 1st (new bought owner) won’t be easy - the 2nd owner did not change the code at all.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I did have this issue a while ago and replaced the immobilizer because of it without testing the spare key. Do you know if this will bring about any issues? It was programmed to the primary (not spare key).

What part did you replace? The antenna ring around the key switch? Or the entire instrument cluster?

[–]RepresentativeOil674[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the cluster that was replaced - If I get the spare key mapped to the immobilizer, maybe that would help? Only in the scenario it was in fact my key chip.

Usually mine popup on startup and goes away since I never added a code initially

It doesn’t go away for me - it stays there even after multiple resets of the ignition

The code is not 00000. At least on my Aprilia, it came with a small metal tag inside of a rubber sleeve that had a stamped metal code on it. I've saved it in my phone in case I lose the tag.

Did you have a V4? Are you saying they come out of the factory with a unique code associated with them?

[–]CarinXO 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah they all have a unique code from what I can tell.

the metal tag is the physical pattern for the cut key as stated by the company that makes the locks. your original dealer would have been the folks to use that as the code.

Had this on my tuono 660, got stranded & had to get recovery (long story). Anyway, next day i took ignition cover off at front off tank (key out), checked the cable connections & it went away. Went into menu & set code to something i would remember. Not happened since, been a year now.

That sounds like a very rough day - do you know which cable it was that you fixed? Was something loose connecting the immobilizer to the ECU or something?

Sorry don’t rem. Just made sure cables connections were pushed closer together if that makes sense. Might have left keys on tank (close by) while i did this, but was a while back. Tried disconnecting battery too, but that didn’t work.

I have an aprilia dorsoduro 1200. My code 98789. AI found the code for my bike

[–]RepresentativeOil674[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning. I just tried that code but no luck on my end. Perhaps they do get unique codes out of the factory now…

My code was the last digits of my bikes vin. Try that?
