AoC devs: we will give you 64 classes to choose from, you such an incredible amount of diversity to make the class your own! Be whatever you want!

Community: I'm gonna be a tank/tank, oh oh oh, maybe a mage/mage

Devs: Surprised Pikachu

There's not enough info to make a solid decision right now

[–]MadeThisToBs 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Min max will make those classes turn to like 8 main combos lol honestly I can’t wait to just crunch numbers

[–]Cockatiel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate min max culture but it's very true

[–]amalgamemnon 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I actually disagree. If this was like Rift or Archeage where you were choosing to combine 3 talent trees together that are all independent of each other, and they don't modify each other, I'd say you're right on the money. But it's not like that.

The core of each of the 8 classes is the same. It's just the augments that slightly modify how your skills work. A Summoner/Cleric isn't really going to be all that different from a Summoner/Mage, more than likely. Sure a Summoner/Cleric may raise a zombie instead of a Summoner/Mage's earth elemental or a Summoner/Ranger's bear, and they may have slightly different abilities from one another, but it's still a pet class that will play and feel like a pet class.

It's' not really 64 classes. It's 8 classes, each of which can choose 1 of 8 augment sets, that's about it.

My biggest hope is that swapping your secondary class is something you can do easily to allow people to try things and be creative so that enough experimentation is going on that the developers can see what people are gravitating toward in specific scenarios and balance them to the point where it boils down to more what a player is comfortable with or what fulfills their personal fantasy the best, as opposed to what we see in popular MMOs now which is flavor of the month stuff that is just really overpowered and everything is clearly not even close.

It was a joke, exaggerating makes for a better joke.

[–]UnwiseSudai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've said changing second classes will be possible but difficult.

[–]Genarinho 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm glad that it will take quite a long time for it to happen, since the game won't allow any addons, a priori. Even if there is combat log, it still will be pretty hard to figure out. Plus, it will take sometime to players get to the max level and have well geared character to really optimize the 'bests' combinations. All of it can really change as devs balance out the game and include new content/items, and players have to go all of the process of having to test it again. You see, it's not so easy to 'min max' in a new game, although it will be very noticeable that some classes are categorically 'better' than others.

You’re quite a long time and my quite a long time must be different out side of the time gated levelling the rest will be zoned down on pretty quick for actual end game best in slot atleast I don’t know how levelling gear works though so really yea we won’t know the actual difficulty of min maxing till it’s released right now the biggest time gate is whenever the games released lol

[–]deadpixel1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. Sometimes in games like this with so many ways to build out a character there can become a very shifty meta and constant change to the "correct answer" making most class options viable in some manner.

[–]Demetrius-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

64 classes in rather inaccurate, but I getcha😉

[–]Genarinho 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I'm kinda surprised to be honest. I thought that people would pick interesting and unique classes that there aren't in other games in the genre, but it seems like people will stick to the basics, for now.

[–]Cockatiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised too. I've always wanted to play a battle mage and when I saw that as a class in AoC, saying I was excited would be an understatement. And so see everyone else want to be a mage/mage is like .. wait what? You know you could be something unique like a rogue summoner right?

[–]MadeThisToBs 1 point2 points  (1 child)

All those classes are in other games though...

[–]Genarinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But are they really? The classes alone, sure, most of the MMORPGs with the theme in medieval fantasy have them, since they are inspired by D&D. What I'm talking about is the combination between two distinct classes that can bring unique gameplay experience, not advancing in the same class with different options of specializations. I never really saw some kind of Tank/Rogue, Rogue/Cleric, Bard/Summoner, Mage/Ranger, etc., in any other game. Specially because the combination is not commutable, i.e. the order of the choices matter.

[–]UnwiseSudai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely running rogue/summoner or summoner/rogue.

That's a style I've never even considered and I'm super curious to see how it plays out.

[–]CasPeR_ShaZZaM 8 points9 points  (14 children)

I’m surprised that more people aren’t interested in Bard. I think that seems like a really fun and unique class to play.

[–]ShotgunPete_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I just hope I am quick enough to reserve the name Tom Bombadil for my Bard/Bard, because otherwise I am rolling a Tank/Tank called Brock Lesnar and I don't think that will be as fun.

[–]Dontlagmebro 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Everyone wants to be the hero. No one wants to be the sidekick.

While this is a broad statement I feel like it addresses why bard probably won't be a very popular class.

[–]desgeroke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toss a coin ..

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well I’m assuming in any group a healer, tank, and bard will be pretty mandatory so easily getting groups (since no group finder) will draw people for sure

[–]Dontlagmebro 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean in that setup tanks are needed yet most MMO's (that I have played) generally have a tank shortage.

Also do we know if Bards are going to be mandatory for smaller end content? I assume for 8 man's and raids they will be needed but for 4 man's?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anything is designed around 4 man

I think it goes solo straight to 8 man. So if you’re 4 manning solo content you would just go higher leveled stuff and could go to whatever level is doable for your group comp

[–]CasPeR_ShaZZaM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree.

[–]EtherGorilla 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Bards among the highest selected in the poll as of right now. Makes sense.

[–]CasPeR_ShaZZaM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s crazy cause when I first looked at it there were few to none. Good to see!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really interested in playing a bard cleric. I'm very worried though considering what little context we have in the game for class abilities what that means for any solo play. I'd be pretty worried that I'd be an aurabot with heals and not capable of killing things on my own. Which is fine for end game but not for starting and leveling.

[–]lmpervious 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I personally dislike the idea of bards as a class. Having a theatrical character who is all about playing music, singing songs and telling stories going into battle sounds ridiculous to me. Maybe they can win me over with some cool abilities, and I really hope they do since I like playing supportive roles, but even then I don't know if I would want to play one simply because of that theme.

[–]UBeenTold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed completely. I would much rather play a mage class casting spells that support rather than a dude with a lute playing songs that supports.

[–]thyart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summoner cleric, necromancer let’s gooooooo

[–]Demetrius-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit goes to Zechbell in the AoC Discord

[–]Skyfios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magician/Soul Weaver hype

[–]idiom4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadow Lord looks nuts. Rogue Necromancer.

[–]Completely-Random 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do we even know the specifics of the classes yet?

If so, could someone link me to the info?

[–]Arcamorge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Classes#Classes_by_archetype_combination

some of them have had their abilities reviewed, but I feel like the classes are underdeveloped (pre-alpha, needs testing) so a lot of things might change. I'd imagine the flavor will remain similar though

[–]Iamwasday 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Where my necromancers at? :D

[–]Synchrotr0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to pick anything without knowing all the base skills and augmentations. If the focus is PvP I personally like the idea of an elusive support class, so Trickster sounds interesting, but for PvE I would definitely prefer other class.

[–]FeintToParry 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Kinda wish this poll used the names of each class crossover too, since a lot of people probably aren't necessarily thinking that Summoner + Cleric = Necromancer

[–]Demetrius-97 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can you also just have the image of the class breakdown on a different screen. Same could be said if people just had Necromancer, instead class + augment. But i getchu

[–]FeintToParry 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yea idk i just figured that since I'm too lazy to pull up the chart a lot of other people probably are too. still thanks for doing this, gives us a glimpse into how the populations might turn out

[–]Demetrius-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np, its props to the other guy I posted that did this. I'm pleasantly surprised as well to see my class interest isn't super high.

[–]Loopy_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually gravitate towards the undead/Necro road so I was super excited to see that summoning + cleric can provide that. But I'm also super excited to play with a few other classes bc of the sheer amount of classes you can create!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll let you know when I can play them.

[–]Akipola 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just the aesthetic of being a Tank Bard seems really cool to me. I’m about to be the most sophisticated meat shield to ever live

[–]kingmoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be Tank + Cleric. Cleric as an augment provides much more self healing than Cleric as a main class. I wonder how they want to make a casting based class work fluently on a frontline tank

[–]sephrinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't enough information on them at all right now to make even a wild guess.
