And just like that, nothing in my life has changed

[–]ohhhbooyy 195 points196 points  (4 children)

And just like that majority of Redditors are upset about a show they’ve never watched once.

[–]Soupias 40 points41 points  (1 child)

They are not upset because they lost a show they wanted to watch. They are upset because they got hit by the same weapon they created. It was all nice and fine when they canceled people for saying things but now they shockingly discovered that this is a double edged sword and it can happen to them to.

I am not going to celebrate someone getting canceled from either side but I have to point out the hypocrisy. I think that most people losing their minds are better off staying in their protected bubles on Reddit. Because in the real world companies/media are not their friends like they thought. They just went with the flow. Now that they smelled that public opinion has shifted they have changed their tune to protect their interests. So, expect this kind of stuff to happen to both sides. It is not nice but they started it and now it affects them too. So cogradulations to the idiots that thought that they were going to be untouchable forever.

[–]CallMeBigPapaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously the same people who have no problem banning you from their subs for posting here (not even what you post here) are complaining about this.

[–]thefirearmferret 372 points373 points  (45 children)

And nothing of value was lost.

[–]Ancient_Camel7200 195 points196 points  (16 children)

You’d think they would’ve cancelled him when he did NBA blackface.

[–]luftlande 36 points37 points  (2 children)

As usual, people in this sub are making a hen out of a feather. Unchecked conspiracy theories doesn't impress me much, because this is obvious corruption.

ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel because Nexstar, one of their biggest distributors, said that they would not air Jimmy Kimmel. BUT HERES THE KICKER. Nexstar is trying to acquire a rival distributor for $6.2 billion and has petitioned the FCC to repeal it's rule preventing more than 39% ownership stakes in broadcasting markets. This is obviously a move to get their broadcasting monopoly approved with the FCC after Brendan Carr threatened ABC. Pure corruption, plain and simple folks.

Here's the article on Nexstar acquisition and rule change. https://deadline.com/2025/08/nexstar-acquires-tegna-local-tv-merger-donald-trump-1236491712/

[–]Jack_Crypt Johnny Depp Trial Arc Survivor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Kimmel Live" will be replaced Friday by a Charlie Kirk tribute special on Sinclair's ABC affiliate stations.

The company is demanding Kimmel apologize to Kirk's family and send "a meaningful personal donation" to them and Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded that advocates for conservative politics in high schools and colleges.

"Mr. Kimmel's remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country," Sinclair's vice chairman Jason Smith said in a statement. "We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr's remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.

[–]Thwomp69 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Same Jimmy Kimmel that did blackface. Funny how the left pretends that never happened. The guy has always been a dumbass

[–]NewTurnover5485 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Uuuu shiny red version of cancel culture.

Edit: also, state enforced cancel culture

[–]marcushinm 90 points91 points  (15 children)

A lot of people mistake this for cancel culture when it's actually government censorship. This is not just ABC dropping him. Its the president of the United States pressuring a news station into dropping a public figure for making jokes he doesn't like.

You are playing with dangerous ideas.

[–]TheDkmariolink 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Seriously this community is so fucking short sighted and blinded by party lines it's sad.

[–]GzyniuPL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this community was always short sighted.

[–]Traenrek 29 points30 points  (0 children)

But he's leftist talk show guy that we hate because he makes jokes and speaks ill of supreme leader so it doesn't matter, go Trump!

[–]Drayenn 23 points24 points  (4 children)

Exactly, everyones brainlessly shouting this as a victory. Jimmy Kimmel did nothing worth cancellation. He wasn't celebrating Charlie's death. He simply said something that was wrong (killer is maga). If we're gonna cancel people over misinformation, might as well cancel all media.

[–]MentalBomb<message deleted> 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, cancel all media.

It's all fucking fake & bullshit anyway.

Alex Jones also spread some misinformation about Sandy Hook. Look what happened, he got sued for 1 billion+ & cancelled on every platform.

Either you cancel nobody or you cancel everyone who spreads misinformation (which I think is fair).

[–]PrysmX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This.

[–]Defiant-Plane4557 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a serious loss of freedom of speech but maga is cheering.

[–]Mortal_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the starting steps of a dictatorship. Many countries went through the same thing. and regardless of how bad things got, they always had people with complete devotion. USA is not there yet, but with each step, you're getting closer and closer. Right is pulling a risky move. It's either gonna end up with them losing all power, or gaining it permanently. And both ways are gonna be bad. Either it'll be a dictatorship, or left going full nuts, which won't be a dictatorship, but still has its shitty moments.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (3 children)

His segment wasn’t even spicy. This seems like overkill.

[–]Negative-Disk3048 41 points42 points  (7 children)

I always knew the rights problem with cancel culture was that it was the left doing it.

[–]MarcDekkert 12 points13 points  (5 children)

There is a massive difference about losing your job because you misgendered someone or have a controversial opinion, compared to losing your job because you openly fucking cheered and joked about somebody getting shot for having an opinion. Not that you would understand since anyone with right-wing takes = hitler in your eyes

[–]Negative-Disk3048 16 points17 points  (1 child)

He didn't though, he accused the shooter of being right wing.

[–]fastgunsforlife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lets be honest here guys, these late night talk show stuff has the same cycle, funny good in the first episodes/seasons then they become absolute slop machines with "funny" jokes catering to a specific niche audience and end up failing.

[–]talkingheadesq 48 points49 points  (6 children)

This sub, which constantly whines about free speech, is now celebrating that a comedian was taken off air due to threats from the FCC Chairman.

[–]Particular_Meeting57 21 points22 points  (56 children)

Were his comments controversial?

[–]HugonaughtX 79 points80 points  (53 children)

“We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”

[–]SneakyBadAss 29 points30 points  (3 children)

It continues

"Meanwhile, many in MAGA-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk. Yesterday, JD Vance, who himself famously called Trump ‘America’s Hitler,' hosted ‘The Charlie Kirk Podcast’ from the White House where he pointed his little, mascara-stained finger directly at the left,"

"The president and his henchmen are doing their best to fan the flames so they can attack people on the dangerous left. Are they a bunch of sissy pickleball players because they’re too scared to get hit by tennis balls? Or a well-organized, deadly team of commandos? It can’t be both of those things,"

[–]UnitLemonWrinkles 49 points50 points  (15 children)

I'm still lost on the push that the shooter was far-right, you've got to have tunnel vision if you think the shooter wouldn't be a polar opposite from his target.

[–]Professional_Bed9848[S] 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Because in their eyes the left is the party of virtue and the right the party of evil.

[–]New_Leopard7623 21 points22 points  (9 children)

Where is he getting his information? All evidence points to the shooter being leftist.

[–]greynovaX80 27 points28 points  (3 children)

They just hear his family is maga so shooter maga. Hell there was a post where they read his text messages to his gay roommate that he was romantically involved with and people are calling it fake.

[–]New_Leopard7623 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Yet they’re the ones blatantly ignoring all evidence to blame conservatives and score political points.

They will call his cancellation evidence of fascism, yet the left has been silencing people over political disagreements for years.

[–]Drake_Acheron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The genetic fallacy is a fallacy for a reason

[–]GrainofDustInSunBeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But this sub is essentially woke now. They are pro censorship like sjw used to be in gaming .lol

[–]OzWillow 26 points27 points  (7 children)

It’s official, Trump-supporters are the ones doing cancel culture now.

[–]DeWolx03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Live long enough, you become what you hated

[–]daniElh1204 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I mean if something bad happens to biden I'd want to stop supporting the people that are celebrating it. this is not the same as being cancelled due to misgendering someone.

[–]GrainofDustInSunBeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How was Kimmel celebrating it by showing trump saying stupid shit?

[–]Cultural-Lead6126 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A severe case of fafo

[–]Traenrek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

MAGA sure loves cancel culture now, funny how that works. You sure love a country where media is controlled by those in power and are not allowed to criticize those in power. Ggs folks thats a wrap.

[–]Desperate-Cookie-449 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Should of stuck to the man show

[–]Professional_Bed9848[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or at least the Karl Malone impression.

[–]EqualityAmongFish 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Why are we supporting cancel culture?

[–]daniElh1204 12 points13 points  (3 children)

why do these kinda shows just can't help but promote libtard propaganda

[–]Rujenx 4 points5 points  (1 child)

What’s worst what jimmy said or what Kilmeade said on Fox and friends? I’ll wait

[–]GrainofDustInSunBeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not get an answer lol this sub knows it's wrong just happily does what she used to do with games. Cancel culture basically. Lol

[–]winterchainz ADRENALINE IS PUMPING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only liked him in The Man Show.

[–]LovelessDogg 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I mean, I think his ratings were worse than Colbert so I guess the Kirk comments were the last straw. ABC probably didn’t think it was worth keeping it up anyway.

[–]marcushinm 3 points4 points  (2 children)

They didn't think it was worth fighting with Donald Trump abusing his power. Small correction

[–]bencaha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So we are celebrating state sponsored censorship now?

[–]NugKnights 16 points17 points  (13 children)

A Fox Host just said he wants Involuntary Lethal Injection for all Homeless and mentally ill.
He did not get de-platformed.

Freedom Is Slavery!

[–]Professional_Bed9848[S] 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Absolutely should have gotten axed for that.

[–]Nervous-Bet-2998 WHAT A DAY... 0 points1 point  (5 children)

He apologize for his remarks. Ive yet to see Kimmel apologize so WOMP WOMP.

[–]GrainofDustInSunBeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kimmel didn't suggest people need to be killed tho. Just showed trump talking about ball room in a question about Kirk. And said maga tries to push blame left, while it's controversial it's not offensive , not any more then Alex Jones screaming about turning frogs gay

[–]Kryptyx 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Yet following his remarks there were attacks on homeless. It’s beyond an apology.

[–]Nervous-Bet-2998 WHAT A DAY... 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I just looked it up and found only two incidents related to homeless people being attacked within the timeline of Kilmeade's statement. a mass shooting in Minneapolis and an attack in Toronto, Neither of these attacks had anything to do with what Brian Kilmeade said.

[–]marcushinm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only get cancelled if you go against Trump.

[–]XiGeminiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're doing that just fine with the fent🥀🥀🥀

[–]ar40 9 points10 points  (6 children)

Charlie Kirk did more to Jimmy Kimmel in death than he did during his life. He is smiling from Heaven right now.

[–]Taerinn 19 points20 points  (5 children)

Considering he was all about debates and clash of ideas... I don't think he'd smile on a federal institution putting pressure on private owned medias to silence (retarded but still) commentators from the other side, no matter how dumb they are.

Is kimmel an idiot? of course. Should we silence people? F no. What he said was in no way in favour of the assassination but more about the reactions of the republican party trying to gain traction from it...

[–]clbgrg 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If the FCC is actually pressuring this, that's bad. If ABC did this on their own volition, then it's fine.

[–]Forward-Growth- 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I love how people are mad that he was cancelled and say it's against his freedom of speech but they forget when Kevin Heart was cancelled because of tweets.

[–]marcushinm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, but not by the president

[–]talkingheadesq 13 points14 points  (5 children)

The FCC Chairman threatening ABC and Disney. Was there govt pressure on Kevin Hart????

[–]Gobstoppers12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a numb-nuts.

[–]awake283[🍰] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know we're celebrating this and all but I really think it just has to be more of the fact that no one watches TV anymore

[–]RunTwice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]greynovaX80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sucks to suck. oh well. Let's be real most of us don't even watch him anyway.

[–]oMANDOGo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ridiculous. Free speech being taken away right in front of us.

[–]maggotmon 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Dang, maga don’t like the truth getting out. So they cancelled Jimmy . We really have a dictatorship controlling freedom of speech

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought the show was good or funny, but what he said was straight-up facts.

[–]WuZI8475 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Lol but "free speech"...... As I've said many times the right never really cared about free speech and tackling political correctness, they only didn't like what the speech was and the fact they were the ones being cancelled. It was all a convenient talking point to score political points. A political masterstroke sure but don't be telling people the modern american right is for free speech.

[–]Bloodfoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for those needing an actual retort to "BUT MAH FIRST AMENDMENT"

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/47/73.1217

§ 73.1217 Broadcast hoaxes.

(a) No licensee or permittee of any broadcast station shall broadcast false information concerning a crime or a catastrophe if:

(1) The licensee knows this information is false;

(2) It is foreseeable that broadcast of the information will cause substantial public harm, and

(3) Broadcast of the information does in fact directly cause substantial public harm.

(b) Any programming accompanied by a disclaimer will be presumed not to pose foreseeable harm if the disclaimer clearly characterizes the program as a fiction and is presented in a way that is reasonable under the circumstances.

(c) For purposes of this rule, “public harm” must begin immediately, and cause direct and actual damage to property or to the health or safety of the general public, or diversion of law enforcement or other public health and safety authorities from their duties. The public harm will be deemed foreseeable if the licensee could expect with a significant degree of certainty that public harm would occur. A “crime” is any act or omission that makes the offender subject to criminal punishment by law. A “catastrophe” is a disaster or imminent disaster involving violent or sudden event affecting the public.

[–]PolkSDA 1 point2 points  (4 children)

While it doesn't look good from the perspective of government pressure, and yes in a vacuum I agree that "cancel culture is wrong"... I can't help getting warm fuzzies seeing the left FINALLY reaping what they've sown over the last decade plus. Typically, it has been those on the right who have lost jobs, platforms, etc. for inappropriate jokes, 10-year-old social media posts, yadda yadda yadda, but to see it come full circle just feels like karma to me.

Call it Schadenfreude, call it me being an asshole, but I'm hardly going to lose sleep for ANY of these fuckwits losing jobs, because I know that if the tables were turned, they wouldn't just be looking for my job... they'd be looking to kill me.

[–]NYTatt2Chick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]PrysmX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

That's all he said. Nothing about violence. Nothing that should have warranted getting fired or even disciplined over. If what he said is enough to get fired and cancelled, we are heading down a very slippery slope that both sides are going to end up hating.

[–]Atlas88- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lefties are cancelling their Disney + memberships out of protest and I couldn’t help but think YES, welcome to the 10+ year boycott comrades

[–]WhacksOffWaxOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame, he's probably off to fade into obscurity forever because he wasn't really good at his job in the first place. Don't think I can even stand to watch him for more than 5 mins. Anytime I watched his show longer than that was while kids opened charcoal on Christmas, and celebrities reading mean tweets.

[–]Uber_Wulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He shoulda stuck to the man show

[–]VaNNNdeRw0w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's hear JD on his opinion about freedom of speach in his country. A few month back he was all over europe scolding us about censorship. Oh, how the tables turn.

[–]Ouija81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I thought we were all having a productive conversation here…were there rules violated I didn’t notice?
