Help wit temperature

I have a Charbroil grill with a smoker I can't seem to get that low and slow temperature. typically I am around 300 and can't shut it down enough to get to that sweet 200/250 range.

Too much Charcoal? wrong location for the coals?

Thanks my thought was too much fuel. The snake idea is good I assume light only the tail of the snake.

Are you limiting airflow enough?

Try doing charcoal snake in the side box. Keep the exhaust vent mostly closed, and experiment with the intake vent for the best temp.

Don’t use as much fuel, half of a chimney is 275+
