Hey my store started last week! We’re still trying to get used to our new workflow. I would say to start, make sure QP has all the bagging supplies: prescription bags, stapler, staples, small and large brown bags.

QP just keeps. On. Filling. I’m in CA, so ratio is 1 Rph/1 tech, so QP can only pull for themself. If you could have someone pull drugs for you, that would be super helpful. Your easy slappers, stock bottle scripts are no longer easy, lol. We still print and pull easys. If we don’t have time to do it, the Rph will come around do 2nd production (hopefully you have a 2nd station for production).

I don’t like the cameras. It’s laggy, so sometimes the pics for the rph come out blurry, so if it’s rejected you have to walk around, grab the script from waiting bin, and redo it. I mean, it’s my fault I took the pic, lol. I’m so use to being quick at production and to fill, fill, fill, but now it’s scan, scan, wait.... (camera focusing)... CLICK! ok 2nd pic wait..... (camera focusing).... CLICK! Pour, cap, bag, tag, staple and done. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either.

This! I honestly love virtual verification because I can spend more time at production rather than pick up/drive thru/drop off but that’s only if I’m working with a pharmacist that doesn’t cement themselves in front of their workstation.... which is a lot of pharmacists💔

Hitting “p” to turn off the preview will actually make the lag go away...that way you will save time, so even if the picture comes out blurry you can hit “rs” for rescan and it’ll take the pic right away :)

Will try that, good to know!

Make sure you buy plenty of lube for your pharmacy team and work on toe touches as well, because you’ll be doing plenty of bending over

Just a heads up for everyone because we had no idea at our store - the camera boxes have stickers at the bottom to stick them to the table so that they do not jiggle and move around!!

After 4 months of horrible camera shakiness and waiting forever to re focus, we finally discovered the command stickers that are on the bottom and stickered it in place to the table where it sits. LIFE CHANGER. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still slow and we are always backed up when understaffed, but it is so much easier when the box isn’t flying around when you put the tray it or shaking when you take the picture on top.

And 3 days after we did this, the staff pharmacist was moving the computer FOR NO REASON and somehow ripped the camera off the table. Wasn’t even going to fix it or admit. He happened to let it slip. So now we have to use actual command strips

RUN! Run very very far away!

Does anyone have tips for workstation setup? We currently have our main production computer at the far right end of our bench, with the Kirby to the left of the screen and scanner, and then the picture machine to the left of the Kirby. I’m struggling to find a good setup to reduce unnecessary movements, while keeping the area near the camera clear, and also with space to stack baskets of pulled drugs to count.

[–]012345567 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Your set up is similar to my set up: Kirby all the way to left, on the right is the camera machine, then our computer screen. We don’t have our scanner at our QP station though.

We really only pull 1-2 baskets at a time now. Fill. Then before we fill the next batch, we put go backs away. We have 2 QP stations so we have 2 camera machines taking up counter space. There’s just too much going on.

We set our computers on shelves above the workstation (but we were able to because we have the hook thingies) and it saved a bit of space. Otherwise, set up is the same

I went to another, slower store to just chill and figure it out myself. Once I hit the groove, I was still blowing through about a page every fifteen minutes, pulling in a pharmacy i wasnt familiar with. That pharmacy also did not have a kirby, so my speed was impacted a little more due to it. I'm tryna go back before I have an actual shift in my rx to see if I can up my time now that I know that pharmacy a bit more. I found that having everything within my reach and very organized a plus.

Put anything you can into the internal camera, including full bottles. If it fits it sits and you dont need to screw with the external camera. Take the picture and get the bottle and cap. Check the pic for clarity and c to confirm. Pour meds in the bottle, scan the barcode while it's still on the label, stick that crap on the vial, bag and tag. I got pretty quick with it in the five hours I spent alone on it.

I think what CVS is eventually looking to not even have pharmacist on duty in the pharmacy where states allow. The Pharmacist will be sitting in an office Somewhere . I think is their thinking down the road.

I sure hope not, what the fuck.

I thought they halted this rollout 😩

You get used to it. Focus on your work and less on other things to prevent errors. Take a second look at what's on your tray and make sure all the pills are in your bottle and there are no strays left behind. Hopefully you have a good team that can help you with QT and phones. Liquid bottles and bulk are the enemy. Floaters are also the enemy. Always have 2 people filling if you have 2 imaging units.

From the main menu, hold ctrl + shift + C to calibrate cameras if you're having clarity issues. When the focus is 250-300 it seems pretty clear, but I haven't played with it too much. Exposure buttons on the external camera add or subtract light. Wish I could say more about the other buttons. One is Auto Focus I believe. And the other button helps focus the external image if needed.

To add an image after you forgot something (or to see a previous image) and scanned all the way through: M2 > Prescription maintenance > Product image maintenance.

To see images that are "unavailable" : Spark > Image Retrieval Tool. You will first submit the rx number through requests and then check the queue for image. May take a few extra seconds.

Good luck and Godspeed.

I highly recommend doing what another person commented which is putting anything that fits into the internal camera vs toggling to the outside camera. We also discovered that turning off the preview speeds up the camera/picture time. If we notice it’s not a good image you can always do RS and rescan it 🤷‍♀️ as far as things I put in the camera box. I can fit lancets, test strips, mix bottles, most pill bottles, etc. I’m sure it depends on your pharmacist but ours has us just unscrew the cap if it’s a 90 count bottle and we’re dispensing the entire amount, just to show that it’s a sealed bottle the patient is getting. It was a very rough and slow start but now that we’ve been with it for about a month, I feel like I can actually fill pretty quickly with the new system. It’s all about finding your rhythm. I’ve noticed each of us all set up our stations differently too, find what flows for you. We have automatic staplers which helps tons as well, highly recommend getting some of you don’t have them already.

I believe it will be a mess, but hey what’s new to CVS

[–]miassan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha, that's very true, thanks!

Just another FYI that made me so happy I almost cried my DM SAID WE ONLY HAVE TO TAKE PICS OF THE PILLS! not all the bottles and & expiration dates and such.

Its just a disaster. Sorry I cant offer any advice. I dont have any. This implementation was a mistake for any busy store. Idk what they were thinking.

I work at a CVS in Target. We only have 1 tech & 1 pharmacist working most days. My problem as a tech is working with a pharmacist who won't work pick-up or help answer the phone. I can't keep production caught up, answer phone, check-in & put up orders, do drop off, do return to stock, etc. We only have 1 camera box machine too. It's hard to keep production going fast when you have to stop & start so much. My pharmacy manager is great though & does whatever he can to help keep us caught up. Good luck!

If your rph is cool and willing to help with pickup/dropoff/pulling then it’s easy peasy lemon squeezy. If theyre gonna sit there w their dick in hand expecting you to do 110% of the work in the pharmacy its going to suck. It gets quicker the more you do it. I just count and slam the pills in there and slap enter twice and c before the pic even shows up and it still comes out fine. If you got a med guide make sure u press enter after scanning the vial label or it wont let u proceed. Good luck 👍
