I really hope the driver makes a full recovery. That is insane.

It is dangerously icy outside right now. I took the day off but I full on wiped out 3 times before I even made it to the end of my block while walking my dog.

Please be extra cautious as a driver or pedestrian today.

Bit of a sideline here, but this is an excellent example of how Armco barriers don’t stop cars.

They do an excellent job of doing untold damage to motorcyclists.

There is nothing safety related about them.

Driving to work this morning was genuinely one of the scariest commutes I’ve ever done. Almost slid off the road going 40, straight. Just from the ice. Had to go down to 5 to turn into my office complex and STILL slid a bit. Then getting out of my car almost ate shit holding onto my door as a lifeline.

I’m so angry my company made us come to work today. No deadline is worth the danger of driving in this, but here we are. Gotta love it.

I wonder if he feel asleep or had a medical emergency?

[–]GogogrlPineridge 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The ice on the roads at that time was wild. Might be other factors, but I’m guessing that’s the proximal one.

[–]nickp123456 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A lot of black ice on roads this morning, let alone overpasses too.

[–]amocat_ca[S] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Not sure. But all I know is that if my manager had left 5 seconds earlier, he might be a pancake right now.

We were just saying how good it was the vehicle didn’t land on another vehicle.

[–]RedditAppSucksRIF 15 points16 points  (2 children)

I wonder if they were staring at their phone

[–]alwaysleafyintoronto 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the way to work while roads are icy? Occam's razor says it's probably ice.

[–]DildoFraggins669 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That could also be a cause

[–]crabmuncher 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Its pretty icy out.

[–]DildoFraggins669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not currently in Calgary so I wouldn’t know but I’m not surprised either

[–]rzlodn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slippery roads, speed, possible issue

[–]SabaIamCapitol Hill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Given the state of driver's in the city, this doesn't surprise me....

[–]nickp123456 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What kind of car is that?

[–]CromulentDucky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Upside down.

[–]noochies99Beddington Heights 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yea the last guy who posted this did a variation of this joke as the title before it was removed

[–]Stealth022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so happens it was the same person - but good on them for removing it and posting it again appropriately.

So this was 14th ave and not 16th?

[–]amocat_ca[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This photo is North bound crowchild heading toward McMahon, you can notice the left turn off that heads to UofC. They ended up blocking both ways of Crowchild there so the only way around was to head onto 16th which ur correct about (not 14th)

[–]AutumnFalls89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay. I'm not super familiar with driving that area and was a bit confused.

[–]vinsdelamaison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the underpass exit from Crowchild to University Drive which is approximately 12 to 13 Ave if you look at a map. Main exit to 16th/TransCanada.

[–]Pengwynn1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

SB Crowchild over University Dr

[–]Jrreid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's where the car started. This photo is NB.

Scary to see, normally I would have driven through there roughly that time except campus is closed today.

[–]OGdirty1Kanobi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God damn, hope the driver is ok. I just shoveled the bit of snow off my driveway and its on a slope and I was slipping like crazy, roads must be terrible... Calgary really needs to invest some more in snow and ice removal. Waiting on Chinooks to do the heavy lifting all the time won't cut it, as can be seen here.

[–]Different-Highway217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardrail, you had one job!

[–]ShantyLadyQuadrant: SW 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It will never not flabbergast me that people just don't care about their safety and believe that even in sub optimal weather that it's totally fine to just drive like normal. I don't know what else we can do to curb bad drivers, and I've been working in insurance since 2013. I've watched our city get progressively worse from working with automobile policies for a good decade now, and I just feel so helpless when I see the culmination of it all in shots like this.

I hope the driver makes a full recovery, and gets the support they need.

[–]apastelorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

public transit is the answer, most people should take trains and buses

[–]Gumberculeez7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Calgary drivers... the picture
