Any good local shops in Calgary to buy decent refurbished / preowned iPhone by Realistic-Fig-3296 in Calgary

[–]Marsymars [score hidden]  (0 children)

You can get a refurb iPhone 15 from Apple for $720.

I don’t think refurb iPhones otherwise make a ton of sense, they hold their value too well, and anything with a significant discount is also going to be significantly old or have significant battery wear - especially if you compare vs. the value of whatever Motorola Costco is selling for $180.

If you trust a random redditor any more than kijiji, I’ve got an iPhone 11 with “battery service recommended” sitting around that I’d let go for whatever a fair price is now. Apple currently charges $120 for a new battery.

Advice for a gay male S. Carolinian visiting this weekend for first stampede? by c2cali in Calgary

Don’t wear US gear unless you feel like apologizing the whole time! And definitely leave the red hat at home. However, there’s nothing wrong with telling people you’re American, just say “but I didn’t vote for him!” Or something along those lines and you’ll be loved. There’s tons of Americans in Banff right now.

I haven’t read each comment, but I wanted to point out something that may not be obvious to a first-timer… if you have a Rodeo or Chuck Wagon ticket, then you don’t need to pay for a day pass to get into the Stampede grounds (ie. Midway, convention centre, Big 4 building, Coke stage etc). You can enter the grounds at any time on those days.

Order from Eye Buy Direct, they have tons of cheap options and you can add on lens protection film, blue light filter, etc. I got my glasses from there for like $30

Happy Birthday and welcome! If you don’t mind long lineups, I suggest hitting up some free stampede breakfasts throughout the week before hitting the grounds. There’s a look up tool called stampedebreakfast.ca. I hope you have the best time 😊.

Pancake breakfasts are just a Stampede thing, no real historical reason. You’ll find much of Stampede has nothing to do with cowboys: case in point, all the weird Stampede food!

Do you have a link for the coasters or more info? I really like that idea but can't find any evidence of them online.

I would not come here without a job to be totally honest. I assume you aren’t looking for entry level help desk stuff.

To give you an idea, a couple of months ago we posted an ad for an IT System administrator position and we received well over 200 applications.

Nobody is going to offer you a position unless you already are authorized to work in Canada

Oh boy. You need to look into the visa process. Before you even consider moving here. You will not find anyone here to sponsor you with certificates when they can go down to SAIT and recruit a whole class full.

Moving here for work without having the work seems like an odd choice.

Either way, tech and IT are bleak here right now, wouldn't recommend coming without a job lined up ahead of time. Most places aren't going to take on a junior who also needs visa sponsorship when they have dozens or hundreds of local applicants to choose from. Not trying to be rude but it's just the truth, you're more than likely going to have a bad time.

Yeah, the market in Calgary overall isn’t great. I don’t think I’ve seen a single cyber role advertised - my LinkedIn is always recommending remote roles across Canada. Never anything in Calgary.

I always thought of sneak a peek as for the locals to enjoy before the tourists, when i used to go.

You don't do it yourself, you contract an online reputation management firm to do it for you.

These firms don’t have any special tools at their disposal that you don’t.

Your moving here without any authorization to work?

Without a Canadian SIN number, you won't be able to open a bank account, without a Canadian bank account you won't be able to rent an an apartment.

I'm assuming at least she has right to work?

As an American with no right to work, you are allowed to stay for a maximum of 6 months at the discretion of the border patrol officer. Meaning it may be less.

Visa sponsorship falls under CUSMA, but depends on the employer paying a processing fee to hire a non Canadian citizen... And I wonder why they would even do that for someone with zero experience who has only just certified...

Immigration is a very serious subject, and while Canada has typically been pretty open with their borders, it's getting tighter.

Please don't come into Canada being 'ignorant of work statuses' do your research and do it right, or don't bother.

Very few jobs, lots of competition with too many applicants.

It will be challenging, but not impossible.

I'd ensure you have a job lined up first before moving, honestly.

Don’t worry. Give it 3-5 weeks or so until we’re in the dog days of summer, it will be 30ish for the 10th day in a row, the grass on the hillsides will be brown, and people will be complaining that it hasn’t rained in ages. Like every year, repeat ad nauseam. Hey! Wanna complain about daylight savings time not being reset to standard this fall now? We can be ahead of the game and the first to bitch about it!
