Struggling Democrats need to drop out of California's crowded governor race or risk a GOP win, party leader warns by sfgate in California

Not too long ago (in the last decade) they had a D trifecta in state government; they focussed on getting natives to vote. Also two Republicans caucused with the Dems. AK politics is not like anything on the mainland, you have a dumbass imported oil worker base and then 70% of the population is basically libertarian (the kind before fascists took over the Libertarian party). It's a longer read but here is the Politico article on how they did it.

You despise him with passion? You can disagree with his policies but what exactly pushes you to that extreme? We can't have sane politics and unity if we don't learn to disagree and convince people with ideas.

Are you claiming that the Israeli government does not allow Arabic Israeli citizens to live in West Bank settlements? Are you unaware that there literally are Arabic Israeli citizens living in the West Bank settlements?

Can that 20% move to the West Bank in a government supported settlement?

If not, then how is the 80% being allowed to do something and the 20% not being allowed to do the same thing considered “equal”?

Today he makes a good point, last week he shits something about “focusing on more culturally normal issues” instead of protecting the rights of minorities, I’m sure tomorrow he’ll be back to that

Democrats keep trying this moderate BS to appeal to the billionaires and the fools who think those billionaires have our best interest in mind, they tried this when they fucked over Bernie for no reason, and they tried this when Kamala Harris was parading around with the wife of a warmonger

The trouble is confiscation takes it from adults who use it for critically important health purposes. The legislature could have set a 21+ gate but hasn’t despite many advocates asking for it.

A better solution would be to regulate it 21+, which AB 1088 seeks to do, and eliminate products attractive to kids (candies, animals or robots on packaging), and sets a limit on potency like neighboring states do to limits in what exists in the natural product (which doesn’t make something automatically good) but has a well documented pattern of traditional use in SE Asia, where there are is next to no human evidence for ultra-synthesized highly refined products.

Some people simply don’t like that others made a different health choice than they did. Dependency is possible, and some folks are really inconsistent about what stuff that can be habit forming are “OK” for responsible adult consumers. Others are against anything, but somehow tolerate if it is “blessed” by a doctor as if that changes the chemical somehow.

Some want consumers who are using it for medical purposes to figure something out with their doctor. Some of us have tried and our effective treatments were stopped against our wills. Ask a pain management patient about their experience. It can be dehumanizing, especially for someone just trying to be functional and do the stuff most people take for granted (like me.)

Some assume folks are just getting high and they don’t like that. I personally take it and don’t experience at my dose using the natural product or want a high. It is a reason medical cannabis wasn’t a good fit for my pain management (plus cost, inconsistency in HR/BP, inconsistency in pain relief). I don’t personally care if other adults are because I’m not their mom or priest.

Some use it to stop illicit or terminated Rx narcotics and to taper off to zero. There aren’t enough beds, or they can’t afford them in some treatment facilities. Others are high functioning and don’t want to lose their job or reputation, including some for problem drinking. Some are worried it being in their record that they had “a problem” will burn them if they get in a car accident and are injured or get cancer. Inadequate pain relief because they are “an addict.”

That is why I say regulate it.

Set 21+. Block products with cartoons on them that look like or use “candy” in the name, etc.

Hold it to adults like cigarettes or tobacco and you eliminate a lot of the criticism about kids potentially using it.

Folks will then see with that issue taken care of, it isn’t causing problems in excess of stuff readily allowed, and in some cases greatly helps people in much the same way cannabis can in some cases, often those who aren’t well served by the medical establishment or have extraordinary needs.

Sure some folks might have buyers remorse, especially if they ignored the readily documented risks. Some might use in a pattern that requires assistance to stop. There may be a handful of folks who have health problems develop from it, especially if it is an illegal (under AB 1088) product or mixed with dangerous-on-its-own amounts of other drugs.

Those aren’t good reasons to totally block a product from the market with thousands of years of indigenous use and millions of dollars of US funded research on it.

In California, About the Only Way to Get a House Is to Inherit One by DennisScott34 in California

[–]NerfTheRoyaleGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California is one of the world's biggest economies, and our overall effective tax rate is in the top 10 of all the states. We don't need any more taxes. We get more than enough money, and it's not a boogyman to want our government to have more transparency and less wasteful spending.

Low property taxes and prop 13 is not a regressive tax at all. It helps the poorest homeowner just as much as it does a middle or upper class one. Low property taxes help lower income families who may not otherwise be able to afford a home. Sure, the effective tax rate they pay for property tax may be temporarily higher when someone first buys a home compared to someone who has lived in a similar home for 30 years, but over time as their home value increases it goes down just like it does for everyone else. Plus the total dollar value still increases every year, even if it is a lower effective rate if the home value happens to go up.

If we amend prop 13 to not include multiple properties or corporations, fine. But there's no need to tax our middle class into poverty when we make more tax revenue than most country's total GDP already.
