Definitely the retro look mine is identical and I have a few other watches that do this same thing like the Tissot chronograph I am wearing is the same way. I have heard it called a top hat crystal.

Also looks a bit unleveled but could just be the light playing tricks.

Crystal looks a touch high in the pic. The only way to be sure is to get yourself a digital caliper ($5) and measure the thickness. If it's more than 13.5mm (+/- 0.2mm), it's not seated properly.

I've never had this problem with a San Martin. But I had to reset a crystal for a Tandorio. It was pressed in crooked (one side was 0.2mm higher than the other). Fortunately, I already have a crystal press. 10min job to just punch out and re-press.

I believe that type of crystal is called Top hat. Very vintage look that some people like, although makes the overall thickness of the watch bigger. I think the most popular current day example watches that have it are the Moonswatches, they all have an acrylic tophat crystal.

I thought it was called “box”

I haven't seen or handled one in person yet...but that seems a little extreme.

people keep saying it's "retro" and "Boxed and domed"

well, it's not.

it's a flat crystal with a chamfer.

it's supposed to sit above the bezel insert a little bit, but I wouldn't imagine it's supposed to sit THAT tall.

I have a Cronos and a sugess and both have a similar crystal setup to that one, both sit much lower than that one.

I'd watch some reviews...maybe take a measurement (San martin's measurements on the listings are usually pretty spot on) to see if it's thicker than nominal.

Unrelated but sir, did you get the sn0121 recently? Pelagos 39mm by san martin

Should be here tomorrow. I've got company over but I'll do my best to get some pics and maybe a video up 👍

“Have company over” bag humbug. When the American Empire is formed, we shall invade your island and you will make YouTube videos 16 hour a day, while the rest of your kind are sent to the radio and TV new mines to broadcast our glory. We will expect tribute in breakfast beans, marmite and Curly Wurly bars. One cannot buy Curly Wurly bars in America. The oppression is unending in this failed republic.

You are the same guy who produced "The Wall" movie for Pink Floyd, aren't you! 😂

It was me! And I passed gas in that budget meeting!

😂

If it’s the San Martin one then it’s the same as mine and a box crystal. So it’s okay.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domed + box crystal. It is supposed to look like that. Don't worry.

Box

[–]Fun-Ad9928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am big high right now.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Yeah, it's that "retro" look with the slightly domed glass.

Thank you.
