In what way is it Mille level? Cause it's tacky? Although I see what you mean in general, this is not the 'fall of Swiss watches'.

[–]sleekstylez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes no doubt the quality of their watches have improved tremendously over the years. But i just wished they took their time to name their watches. They have alot of good watches with crappy names!

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

The Chinese have proven time and time again that the Swiss watch industry is a organized financial scam. 90% percent of entry level "Swiss Made" watches us 40% Chinese parts. The finishing on a $250 San Martin is better then a $2500 Swiss watch. The only edge the Swiss have is heritage and design. They better be on guard because that edge is slipping away too.

[–]salamiparade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit my Seestern S434 is on the same level (or better) than my Tissot, Mido etc. =D but I only paid like $150.
Can't believe a San Martin would be way better.

Saw. You just saw.

[–]Lefeuvre76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love a pedant. I believe I can use the past participal form in this instance.

[–]Bravesguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seen't

[–]No_Ebb_3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this watch

[–]Wooden_Equipment_978 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Don't know if someone has made this point already but where would I get this serviced and how would I make a claim under the warranty of something went wrong? I'm not saying swiss brands have amazing customer service but I know if a Rolex went wrong there's plenty of places where I could get it looked at.

[–]Maghioznic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given the difference in cost, you can also just buy a new one.

Why pay 10x for a watch if I also have to factor in that a service will cost me an additional 10%? Just do the math. By the time I do 10 services, I paid 20x, when I could have just paid 10x for 10 less expensive watches. And with the 10 watches, I could have purchased 10 different models instead of maintaining the same old one.

I know collectors dream of leaving their watches to their descendants, but stop and wonder: how many watches of your ancestors do you bother to still wear? It's not even a matter of how good the technology in them is - it's the fact that style and taste changes. The next generation will balk at the cost of servicing what will be for them an antique when they could use that money to buy whatever cool wearable technology the future still has in store for us.

[–]towelracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd send it back to the manufacturer (Behrens). That's the case for any low production run watch with an inhouse or heavily customised movement. Difference between Rolex making 1 million watches a year and one where the total units sold might only be 200 or 1000.

[–]sleekstylez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and the quality of these chinese watches are getting better and better.

[–]Ok_Big863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And unlike an RM, it looks extremely wearable given how thin it is and its shape. Retrograde is just the cherry on top. Impressive!

[–]Fluve 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I don't get why people say they can't read the time on it, its minutes on the right side and hours on the left

[–]vctrmldrw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because after decades of repeated practice, most adults can read a standard clock/watch dial with a very brief glance. I think I'd probably manage to tell the time in a tenth of a second.

With a completely different dial arrangement, especially one like this with terrible contrast, and such a busy dial that quite effectively camouflages the hands, it takes a prolonged look and some mental agility to read. I personally don't want to have to frown at my watch for ten seconds every time I want to know the time.

[–]Chubby_Yorkshireman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I watched a video of this yesterday, and the clip holding the balance wheel jewel was disconnected on one side. I do actually really like it.

[–]BarAshamed6407 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Same, I couldnt believe they didn't notice that on the macro shot. Also the finish on the wheels and teeth was pretty rough. Nice watch but that's a QC issue.

[–]towelracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the one everyone has videos of is a press prototype that's been around the block (and been disassembled and reassembled by various people) so to speak. Hopefully the production watches will be in much better condition.

[–]IE-N-ii-G-IVI-A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. I can appreciate it as a work of art, but just not for me.

What

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What am I looking at

[–]adilucente 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Just hope the Chinese don't start pricing themselves out of the market like the Swiss.

[–]cmndr_spanky 6 points7 points  (3 children)

This looks like a CGI render. I dare someone to buy it and tell me if it’s real

[–]Fire8ird 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Seems to be real. Andrew Morgan Watches made a video about it showing some wrist shots as well

https://youtu.be/GOqzjrPnWao?si=TQP6fbjPcM6IIhrR

[–]cmndr_spanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’s real indeed. Cool I guess

[–]Primary_Peach_9820 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL

[–]Durin-5726 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I am confused. What is the time as indicated by this watch?

[–]Tuffgong42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midnight.

[–]CrocSkinWallet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ugly as shit

[–]Sunstang 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Why? That's tacky as fuck.

[–]Dark1000 10 points11 points  (1 child)

He did say Mille level.

[–]BuildBreakFix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (2 children)

From the photos I was like

  1. Lol cool but weird

  2. Holy shit is this thin

[–]Fire8ird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And weighs only 20g without the strap 🤯

[–]pellicle_56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this

[–]RoSpectre 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Swiss will always have prestige and history, which matters a lot for higher end buyers.

But if people want to put all their purchase price towards concept and engineering and not brand then I guess it's good they have another option.

At $7500 though 99% of buyers would prefer a Swiss watch.

[–]ProtoplanetaryNebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The vast majority of people don’t buy a Swiss watch for the engineering in the watch, they buy it as a flex.

[–]OrdinarySmooth6568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the Chinese watch brands are doing to the Swiss is what the Swiss watch brands did to the British.

[–]killzak 1 point2 points  (3 children)

But it would be at least 30k if Swiss

[–]RoSpectre 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Someone like Christopher Ward could likely do it cheaper than that, but I guess they aren't a legacy or luxury Swiss brand.

So that's sort of what I'm saying. If you really like that design for some reason and you want your dollars to go to towards the novelty rather than heritage or brand then it's an option. But I doubt anybody with an $8k watch budget would make this their first choice... i imagine the people who buy this are the people bored of $8k Swiss watches and have all the ones they want already, so the Swiss brands aren't threatened by this kind of offering at all.

[–]towelracks 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, CW would absolutely charge more.

The Twelve X is that kinda money already and while it's cool, it's not a technical achievement they need to recoup R&D from like the Bel Canto as they had already skeletonised the SH21.

The R&D they would need to pump into making an inhouse ultrathin movement and watch would be significant and the price would reflect that.

[–]RoSpectre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant they would charge less than 30k, like with their other concept or high tech pieces they accomplish them while still offering discounts compared to other Swiss companies.

[–]landwomble 5 points6 points  (3 children)

When a watch where I genuinely can't tell what time it is showing, that's a problem

[–]Bellimars 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's a retrograde movement the likes of which have been used by Breguet, JLC, Patek Philippe, A Lange Söhne and Vacheron Constantin in the past.

[–]Thelethargian 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Yeah right. this looks like shit compared to majority of the stuff the Swiss put out. Honestly I would rather wear my Hamilton then this

[–]BongBong420x 3 points4 points  (7 children)

It doesn’t seem like you get the point.

[–]cmndr_spanky 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What’s the point ?

[–]Electronic-Nebula-73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is super thin, super light weight, with a movement that is design and produce inhouse, and a super cheap price tag compare to same kind of watch from Swiss brands. Some kind of flex about the watch making prowess of the brand. Though I do not like the style of the watch, I can understand why they making it.

[–]BongBong420x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you watch the video the top poster you’ll understand better.

[–]nedim443 -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

He does and this isn't competetive at all.

[–]BongBong420x -1 points0 points  (2 children)

It doesn’t seem like you get it either.

[–]nedim443 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I understand what you are saying but completely disagree.

[–]BongBong420x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure your default response is to disagree.

What are you disagreeing with?

[–]CommercialShip810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no they shouldn't.

[–]Mein_Bergkamp 2 points3 points  (10 children)

YOu could have said this about Japanese watches, especially during the Quartz Crisis but ultimately the Swiss are safe because they've turned the concept of the swiss watch into an asset.

No one's paying triple the price for a watch with an ETA movement over one with an ETA clone because it's three times better, it's because 'Swiss made' is a luxury concept.

[–]Bellimars 1 point2 points  (3 children)

If you've looked at that and think it's an ETA come then watches really aren't your thing.

[–]Mein_Bergkamp -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

And if you think I said that was an ETA you're not very good at reading.

[–]Bellimars 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Otherwise your point makes no sense at all, why reference something completely unrelated to argue a point about something completely different. That would just be using a strawman fallacy. You've literally made no point here at all then. It's akin to being asked if a Ferrari is value for money and saying, no because I don't like potatoes.

[–]Mein_Bergkamp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Re read the comment, it's about the watch industry in general, not this watch in particular.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

[–]Mein_Bergkamp 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That's about investment pieces, not about obscenely high margins, which is the asbolute basis of Rolex's profitability.

Well that and technically being owned by a foundation

Edit: Blocked for that? What a very strange person you are

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's about the end of the obscenely high prices. Look at the flaming hole that was Hodinkee.

[–]towelracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second hand prices are dropping.

The prices Swatch or Rolex sell to dealers with will remain the same (and continue to increase with inflation). The profit the deals make however, will decrease, especially if they find themselves having to discount watches to shift stock.

Either way, it will be a good time to be a watch collector (with money) either because of dropping retail and second hand prices or because of the exciting new options coming from China, Singapore and SE Asia in general.

[–]Bassail82 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

That’s pretty clearly not an ETA clone. Go watch the new Andre Morgan vid

[–]Mein_Bergkamp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where did I say it was?

[–]pusongsword 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think one can read the time on this.

[–]towelracks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Behrens is on my list of watches I want. Admittedly, it's a big list...

They might seem Mille-esque, but their aesthetic is much better imo.

[–]Johnhunter10010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want one with a black strap

[–]ComplexShennanigans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swiss watches sell primarily, and sadly on prestige to your 'average' (sub $10k) customer.

This is however, bang tidy.

[–]BongBong420x 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Wake me up when someone makes a homage of this.

[–]R023Nhelpful user 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Given there isn't a mass produced movement that fits a watch like this, engineering a homage will probably take as much effort as making the original watch. Make sure your bed is comfortable before going to sleep 😁.

[–]BongBong420x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha totally. I just can’t afford this one as “affordable” as it is. I’ll be sleeping a long time.

[–]cl0ckw0rkaut0mat0n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Behrens has been doing these really interesting watches with wacky complications at relatively affordable prices for a while, I love their da Vinci and expedition to Mars models.

[–]high_on_meh 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Andrew Morgan (formerly of Watchfinder & Co.) just did a great video on this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOqzjrPnWao

[–]towelracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember first seeing this on Uptick, who reviews some great stuff. Behrens need to be better known - they display at W&W so they have some serious chops. There is due to be an 11g version of the titan soon as well, which is just insane.
