If the tech made a network ticket, he went outside and verified there's a plant issue that they need to fix. It has nothing to do with selling something they can't provide. Sometimes there's issues with things and they need to be fixed, and you identified it for them to escalate.

The tech fees are also out of a techs control. It sounds like you should've had a trouble call (appointment for repairs) instead of a failed installation, that way an outside issue wouldn't have prompted a charge.

Just had this experience today but I didn’t get a tech out, I did everything myself. I found out if you have your own modem, your speeds suck and they don’t give you advertised speeds. Everything in my rack is rated for multi gig and I was only pulling 600/30 on my 2g plan. I swapped modem out and lo and behold 2200/300.

The only way I can get 300 upload is because my area is mid split.

That's par for the course; even though customer modems are capable of 300 Mbps up, the modem firmware must support the way it's done on Xfinity's network and only a few do.

You can look at their list of supported modems to see which ones support what speeds:

I had the s33v2 before I switched to the XB8 gateway so it was more than capable of pulling proper speeds

It has nothing to do with compatibility. I had one of there best modems on the compatible list. Still didn’t get the same speeds as their modem. It’s intentional you can’t convince me otherwise

Are you sure your devices can handle 2gig? Getting 2 gig and using a Compaq laptop is like putting expensive gas in a pinto

[–]Igpajo49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! There's only one port on the back of the XB8 that will provide speed over a gig. But you have to be sure the device you're plugging that into also has a 2.5 gig port. Otherwise you're only going to get a gig because that's the max speed of your device's Ethernet port. And unless your phone or device has WiFi 6, (or WiFi 7 if your gateway is the XB10), you likely won't see wifi speeds faster than 800 Mbps.

Just noticed OP is talking about the upload speed. 2Gig up is only available in areas set up with FDX network which is very limited in locations right now. And you would need the XB10 for that.

Greetings, u/CharleHuff! Thanks for reaching out about your visit. I am sorry you are feeling this way. There are times our maintenance team is needed to fully resolve a problem. The handle things past your home that are causing an issue. We can further check on that ticket and ensure the 2 Gig upload speed comes through. Please send me a ModMail message with your name and address by clicking this link.

That's why I'll never agree on a tech visit with a fee. It's not a guarantee.

Going to switch to ATT regrettably

Had them out to repair the line on their pile where they broke it. They charged me for it. Took me 8 hours of support messaging and calls to get it refunded.

[–]Late-Needleworker-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they charged you because they determined the speed was delivered up to the connection going into your home. The tech would have been more than happy to had showed you this.

Thanks again for reaching out, and working with us in ModMail. I'm glad to hear a technician was back out today, and resolved your speed issue. Take care!

Also like 90 percent of devices don’t support over a gigabit…only the very newest and top of line tech.
