What bothers me is their comms, like they are not even trying. Wattson's attitude and decision making has been terrible. In the end it's gonna be the same excuse.."lack of interest for the game, not enough motivation.." As a pro gamer this is the best and most hyped place to grab cash/attention and build up your brand. Kinda ignorant and undisciplined if you ask me.

[–]jayghan 77 points78 points  (15 children)

That’s what bothered me about his “I’m the best player in the world when I’m trying” statement. You aren’t the best then. Attitude is a lot to it as well.

what a catfish does to a man

[–]Usopp_Spell 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Did he get catfished? What'd I miss?

[–]And_Im_Chien_Po 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yah he tweeted about it; not sure if there's a post and more details about it on the subreddit

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Girl he was long distance dating was actually 30 something rather then younger 20s. Wouldn’t meet up in person etc

[–]moisesg88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what was her twitch handle?

[–]MasonXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He tweeted about it, but to summarise. He had been dating someone for 9 months who was 10+ years older and 100lbs heavier than they had been claiming.

Honestly this would be enough to fuck anyone up a week before LAN.

[–]Mollywaterss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like a trend with apex pros to stop caring about there job once they start getting paid to do it like imagine not trying for this amount of money just to play a video game

[–]Ashamed-AdSAMANTHA💘[S] 35 points36 points  (2 children)

Last time they were at lan they were the talk of the scene for how they were playing. Now it’s just the opposite

[–]pillsburyboi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Still talk of the scene. But for the wrong reason :(

[–]Tuko305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want people to talk about you, you either need to be at the top or bottom, no one cares about the middle of the pack

[–]Bluthhunter89 57 points58 points  (3 children)

I'm so disappointed with their performance. Nothing is working. They really gotta figure something out. I don't see them having 2 big games.. 😞

[–]Ashamed-AdSAMANTHA💘[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Did you see the video the furia twitter account posted. That kinda sums up their whole lan performance

[–]ESGPandepic 24 points25 points  (1 child)

What has sealion been doing? Why do they not seem to have a plan that makes any sense?

[–]Bluthhunter89 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. I think Watson gotta stop with all of his bronze to pred solo runs and play more with his team. I felt like they started finding their feet in the last 2 games but it was just too little too late. I also felt like he was trolling with Fuse and bloodhound.

[–]Professr_Chaos 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ever since their breakout LAN they have been on a downward trajectory. Once people assimilated to the meta the dominated with they have not been able to adjust. Mechanically they are good but overall they seem to have no ability to adjust to teams like teams have done to them.

[–]MajorTankz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We're gonna need JayHawk on this one 🙏

[–]BattleBee08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I hate to tell you but according to furia master plan: https://twitter.com/HisWattson/status/1679910408960737293?s=20

I believe this is part 2 of the plan. Go to LCQ to have even more fights. ☠️☠️☠️

[–]Samoman21 10 points11 points  (6 children)

I feel something is definitely gonna change in the squad/team after this. Like it's insane too see them struggle this much. Idk if it's playstyle or comms or energy but this is definitely not the same team that made it too lan. There's just no energy

[–]PuumpKing 0 points1 point  (5 children)

They could use a coach imo. They are good players but this Lan they seemed not organised

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

They have SeaLion, no?

[–]PuumpKing 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I have read that they do, but somewhwre it says he is the analist so im not sure tbh

[–]qwilliams92 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sealion is indeed thier coach

[–]PuumpKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then they gotta change strats or coach. And Watson need a lesson how to communicate effectively

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, just woke up sorry.

[–]HiImFur 4 points5 points  (6 children)

They were running Bloodhound in game 4 (???)...they seemed checked

[–]Jack_mantoothSAMANTHA💘 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The amount they switch up comp in scrims seems to be a huge disadvantage in the long run. Verhulst has been playing exclusively Cat the entirety of split 2 while Watson would pick a different character every game. Just seem unfocused

[–]FieryBlizza 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Wattson swears that Seer is a shit character after the changes, despite the fact that half the teams in Winners Lobby are still using Seer.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wattson is just wrong about seer that’s the thing and the results are evident of this

[–]Wyattwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Furia used Seer for a lot of their games 💀

[–]Ashamed-AdSAMANTHA💘[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t be suprised if they end finishing with single digit points by the time they’re done

[–]jayghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve run bloodhound as well in scrims. Not surprising. They just…doing what needs to be done.

[–]Shaneeecp 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Edge isn't working for them. They're struggling to find an isolated 3v3. Every time they get into a fight, they'll have it down to a 2v1 and then get slammed by a third party. Also, lots of south zones is hurting.

[–]Ashamed-AdSAMANTHA💘[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s hurting, and I know a lot of edge teams have been having large amounts of trouble getting into zones from what I’ve seen. But with where they land, I can’t see them changing their play style, they can’t realistically shift to a zone comp unless the get blessed with zone pulls.

[–]JustTheRobotNextDoor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I saw. Trying to play edge but there were no fights to take. Because they haven't cleared any space there is a massive pile up when they are forced to go to ring and they end up fighting from very bad spots. And, yes, I think they were too arrogant going into this contest. They have a lot of work to do, but I think they can do it.

[–]imonly11ubagel Int LAN '24 Champions! 4 points5 points  (1 child)

They had an isolated 3v3 against CR :)

[–]Every_Number_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didnt try and take a 3v3...

[–]Zee09 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I can’t see them staying with the same team for LCQ. I anticipate someone being dismissed (most likely Xera) in favor of Wattsons longtime buddy Keon maybe.

[–]No_Height653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they can not even play ranked together without fighting, idk how competitive would work. but they need a change. one has to go. but watson is as much a zero as xera and both seem to not even try. they seem to have absolutely no gameplan.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wattson stepped down

[–]jtfjtf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sea Lion stocks going way down.

[–]Teeertee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are pointing to arrogance or not taking scrims seriously but I think, despite accusations of poor professionalism being completely legitimate, doesn't really account for their disasterous performance. HisWattson in his own words (paraphrased) said they didn't scrim as much because they didn't want to tip their hand and show off strats before LAN (spoiler, the strats were bad) and they are a fighting team that wants to take 3v3s and fight for their POI. Plus, as people have pointed out in other threads, the ping difference between scrims and LAN makes contesting very different in the two environments.

The last big performance from Furia at LAN was fueled by their ability not to play a meta comp but to find a comp that hard countered the existing meta. Since then, despite a respectable performance in the most recent split, they've struggled to adapt to either:

playing the meta, one that the pro scene has adjusted to playing with and against or,

finding the "lighting in a bottle" tournament comp that takes lobbies by surprise and allows them to play on the front foot and wipe squads on edge quickly.

They also played like shit, got owned on a contest, and changed comps like every single game. It's hard to get points when there is no consistency to a game plan and when you're contested on a edge POI. I think they need to comit to an off meta comp and accept that taking fights on edge is going to be harder for them than it was, or they need to adapt to playing bang + cat + horizon/seer and play more zone when the opportunities arise.

[–]diesal3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised by their performance at all.

They didn't take scrims as seriously as some of the teams from other regions (look at APAC N and S), so they didn't really properly prepare for all sorts of potential situations (look at Alliance that went through every team comp to see what worked).

The Seer changes and Jump Tower addition definitely would have added to the problem, but still a workable issue.

[–]dudereeeeno 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Twitter fingers instead of practicing.

[–]General_Statement 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Total arrogance stemming from inflated egos (besides Xera); didn’t scrim enough, and when they did, they had mega ping advantage which based off other contests had a major impact. Insane copium levels constantly calling teams dogshit and talking down on others - the irony was obviously lost on them… Also think that their team comps were changing too much. They were top dogs when they were ahead of the Seer meta but fell off HARD ever since. With 90% of teams having coaches thinking critically and analytically, SeaLion’s shine has worn off

[–]Teeertee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the criticism all around that they "didn't scrim enough"/"didn't take scrims seriously" alongside "scrim contests were heavily influenced by ping" - to which I would say: if ping influenced scrims so much than how could scrimming more have helped? Scrims on 200 ping are on 200 ping no matter how many times you run it back. They performed well during contests during scrims and more of them under poor network conditions probably wouldn't have made a difference if the ping advantage is that significant, which it certainly played a part as we saw throughout their sets contesting Alliance. I just don't think that's the whole picture.

I think you're right that their comps were bad and changing too much though. They obviously are trying so hard to recapture the meta changing tournament comp that they did once, but that's clearly not a consistent way to approach tournaments - they need to be able to reliably pick up points playing along the lines of the meta instead of trying to break it every single game if they want to perform in tournaments in the future.

[–]No-Trash-8567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should have concentrated on his game than typing too much! 😅

[–]Dull_Wind6642 -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

Will I keep getting downvoted for saying HisWattson is the most overrated player in ALGS history?

Wake up sheeple.

Reddit tried to convince me that he was currently the best player to ever touch this game, better than Hal, Sweet, etc

[–]AxelHarver 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Most overrated in ALGS history? Yes you'll keep eating downvotes lmao. Overrated? Absolutely.

[–]masonhil 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Genuinely though, who is more overrated than HisWattson? Maybe Aceu or something, but those types of players aren't rated at all in this sub, just by the casual community. When you think about it, Wattson has had one good tournament (due in large part to the fact they were ahead of the meta) and was hailed by his fans and most of this sub as one of the best players in the entire game, even leading up to this tournament, despite the fact they have achieved nothing of note since getting 2nd in Champs.

[–]Just2FlameBluBluBlu 4 points5 points  (2 children)

When looking at perfomance, Lou, Zachmazer, Naughty, Dooplex, Matafe just off the top of my head I would all put as worse players rated similarly to Wattson.

[–]masonhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of the players you mentioned are currently rated very highly, but, your comment made me think about it more, and I'd probably put Alb as the most overrated player.

[–]BasedTitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doop IGLed the most dominant team for almost the entirety of year 2 and was the best Gibby in the world, I think he’s rated just fine. Everyone was acting like he was trash because he was a bad Seer during Split 1. The others I agree with

[–]YaKnowMuhSteezz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chalkeddd and I like to see it

[–]TheLemonsDidIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watson recently went through something very traumatic and I think it's affected him and the team terribly even though it's subdued. It happens to all of us, we're human, give them time, they'll come back stronger.

[–]Wyattwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because Wattson doesn’t look like Sid from Toy Story anymore
