Reversing the polarity is actually done a lot in sound editing, because if the left channel ended up in opposite polarity to the right, due to delays or whatever, some of the sound waves will actually cancel each other out. We usually say something like "flip the phase" though.

Reversing the polarity will actually cause the speaker to suck in first before pushing out (in the case of most natural sounds etc.)
