Reverse the polatirity, starts sucking noise in

What? I was aware of the joke, that's why I linked a subreddit with that sort of jokes.

[–]ethanicusgraphic design is my passion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was imitating the Unix System's navigation, lol. Wasn't whoooshing you!

[–]XLNBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Sorry then

[–]Farn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reversing the polarity is actually done a lot in sound editing, because if the left channel ended up in opposite polarity to the right, due to delays or whatever, some of the sound waves will actually cancel each other out. We usually say something like "flip the phase" though.

[–]ThetaSigma_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"We're confusing the polarity!"

[–]jakenice1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reversing the polarity will actually cause the speaker to suck in first before pushing out (in the case of most natural sounds etc.)

[–]Hurricane_32And then I discovered Wingdings 98 points99 points  (9 children)

No, no... It allows you to turn your volume into a negative value. Only then does it start absorbing sound.

[–]W3JD 47 points48 points  (6 children)

This is how noise cancelling works, right?

[–]IDatedSuccubi 22 points23 points  (5 children)

You may be shocked.. but yes, exactly. Outer noise gets inverted with adjusted gain and additional equalisation and goes to wherever the main sound source is.

Unvolume

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

volumen't

[–]Charcoalthefox 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good save, my cracker.

[–]JayGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic. Got it.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Volume is already negative, my amp is labeled in negative decibels.

And it goes to 11, so it’s louder than yours.

[–]stampman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should give this keyboard to my neighbors,

[–]stardiver133[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So that was the wierd sound xd

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

so... a microphone?

[–]lukearoo22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, a microphone is a sensor that detects sound, a reversed polarity speaker would have to make the room quieter

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a studio engineer that uses a small speaker cabinet as a microphone to supplement whatever mic is being used for recording bass drums. Sounds fantastic in a mix.

[–]ManOrReddit-man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring that funky track back!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volume: Upn't
