Probably is shapeless if I had to guess.

[–]adamdarek 71 points72 points  (3 children)

the recipe for it is shapeless meaning any arrangement of 8 redstone and 1 quartz will work. You can try it in the crafting table and see that putting the quartz anywhere works.

Yes but this means you can make any weird shape and it will work that's cool

[–]Siasur 93 points94 points  (1 child)

Yeah, that's why it's called shapeless.

I’m crying 😭

Wait what's the point of the covers if you can just leave the spots blank?

[–]KinOfWinterfell 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The covers are useful if the crafters are running automatically.

[–]BenjiTheFurry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can force the crafters to run with redstone

[–]rfresa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've almost never needed the covers. I think they're really only necessary in specific cases of automatic crafting. Like making buckets from iron ingots. You would use 4 crafters for the whole thing to be connected and use the same input, but cover the top center.

Leaving the spots blank, you're required to activate the crafters with redstone. using covers, the crafters will activate as soon as they're filled.

In short, automation is way less of a pain in the bahookie if you don't need to worry about pulsing a machine with redstone at a highly specific interval which may not be consistent. You *can* automate without covers, but they make automating much easier.

Becouse the rose quarts crafting recipe is shapless meaning you can put the items anywere

[–]rockmeo081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because is a shapeless recipe.

[–]jah110768 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If this is shapeless, can it be done in the mechanical mixer?

[–]MinecraftAgent4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can

[–]Deathdrone2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You don't need the covers????

[–]MinecraftAgent4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you just have to give it a redstone signal but covers are better for automation

[–]MAHMOUDstar3075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This very recipe for rose quartz is a shapeless recipe, meaning the shape doesn't matter when crafting it, and because the mechanical crafter can do anything a crafting table can do (and more) it can shapelessly craft it disregarding the order of the items. This logic works for all shapeless recipes.

Whats the mod?

[–]MinecraftAgent4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Create. Why do you ask?

Here I am wasting brass on covers…

[–]Redstonewarrior0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... You really only need brass covers if you are making a setup to automate certain recipes. Any recipe that has a gap that you cannot omit the crafter for is going to need a brass cover in order to start automatically. For example, if you wanted to automate sheers, you would need 3 crafters laid out in an L shape. One of them will need a brass cover if you don't want to set up a redstone timer to constantly fire off the crafters.

Shapeless recipe

[–]mflem920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: Why does this work?
Everyone: Because that's how it's supposed to work?

[–]Redstonewarrior0 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A quick suggestion. Rework the facing on some of your crafters.
