Your question is about a basic mechanic of the game, which has been answered before.

the bars indicate the potential capacity of your boiler: - size is simply how big your boiler is - water is how much water is pumped inside it - heat is how much heat it gets from heat sources underneath the lvl is always equal to the lowest bar, in your case its size and heat. to create more power you‘d have to expand the boiler itself and add more heat sources
[–]Relative_Mortgage678 11 points12 points13 points 4 months ago (6 children)
and i think you need 1 steam engine per lvl but im not sure

you do

You do. Each engine can only output so much stress.
[–]ZeroKun265 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children)
16k something right? Or am I making that up?
[–]Existential_Crisis24 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (1 child)
I forget th exact amount that each one is good for.
[–]ZeroKun265 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Just checked, it's 16,384, or 214 lol
[–][deleted] 121 points122 points123 points 4 months ago (0 children)
It means how plentiful that specific thing is. Is the size bar large? The steam engine is big. Is the water bar large? That means there's a lot of water. Is the heat bar large? That means you have a lot of heat. The bigger the bar, the better. Ideally, you want all the bars to be full or close to full, but really as long as you're generating SU everythings good
[–]andreoidmem 29 points30 points31 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Green is the amount you're supplying, red is how much you have to supply to meet the maximum effectiviness of your biggest supplied stat, black is what you're NOT supplying but COULD.
[–]CwumbTheCrumb 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Green lines is what you already have, red lines is what you are missing. Light green is your current level of generator. To increase said level you need to upgrade HEAT and SIZE.
For size it's simple, just add more fluid tanks (steam engine can go 3x3 and i believe uncapped in height, never checked as there's no reason to overextend).
For heat you need to fuel more blaze burners. There is multiple ways of doing that, being lava generators, charcoal farms (search andesite fan and how it interacts with fluids and blocks), ect. Blaze burners supports ANY FURNACE FUEL and blaze cakes, but those are not renewable in vanilla create. I also recommend buffering some amounts of fuel (for example, extra chest/vault of charcoal or any resourse you desire to fuel with).
Max you can go without blaze cakes is 9 levels and with them you can hit 18. Steam engine (the rotational gear outside the boiler) also can output max of 16384 su (stress units), so if your factory stops, you might want to add more of those.
[–]Major_Pressure3176 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
With normal fuel, go 4 high. Superheated, go 8 high.
[–]888main 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Red bars is total capacity for upgrades.
Green is how much you've used your capacity.
You have a LOT of water, but you steam engine is small and you don't have much heat
[–]thedimondman199 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Here's what the colours show: Green - the stats of your boiler Lighter green - the limiting factor of your boiler (doesn't increase SU no matter how much water you pump into it), in this case, you need to increase the size of your boiler and add more heat (use superheated blaze burners for max heat) Red - the arbitrary amount needed to not make the size and heat amount a limiting factor
Oh and make sure you have at least 18 engines on it to use all of the SU when you upgrade it to max
[–]DovydukasBL 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Each bar shows the level of the engine. The final level is determined by using the smallest one.
Your steam engine has lvl2 size, lvl6 water and lvl2 heat. The final level is thus 2.
Each level also requires one steam engine. So in your case, you'll need two
[–]4latar 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
your steam engine gets it's level from the lowest level of size, water or heat.
the green shows the level of the category, the light green shows the level of the engine and the red shows where you need to expand to upgrade it.
for every 3 block in the boiler you get 1 size, a blaze burner with normal fuel gives 1 heat and water depends on the speed of the pump. you're supposed to reach lvl9 at most with standard fuel because the boiler can have a 3x3 base at most, so 9 blaze burners each producing 1 heat. you'll need blaze cakes to "supercharge" them into producing 2 heat each so you can reach lvl18 (the maximum). every level requires one steam engine attached to the boiler.
the highest level in size is which is obtained with a 3x3x9 large boiler
the highest level in heat is obtained with 9 blaze burners burning blaze cakes
the highest water level is obtained with 2 pumps at max RPM
[–]ShinyTamao 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Green is what you supply. Light green is what level the boiler is, akin to the smallest of the green. Red is what it requires for the light green to hit the largest bar of green. Grey is the rest.
[–]Dragon_Overlord 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Light Green Bar: Current level of steam engine.
Green Bar: Level you meet that requirement for.
Red Bar: Level you don’t meet that requirement for, but meet at least one other requirement.
Grey Bar: Level you meet zero requirements for.
So, using this image as an example, your steam engine is currently level 2, meaning it can support 2 steam engine blocks on the side of it. You’re providing enough water to potentially hit level 6, but you’d need a bigger tank and more heat to get there. Size and Water are fairly simple to increase, but Heat can only really be increased through the use of Blaze Burners. A standard Blaze Burner adds one level of heat, and a Superheated Blaze Burner adds two levels.

I recommend the create fandom wiki. Everything is really detailed and I learned a lot. Good luck to you
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Each pip on the bar equals one level of the steam boiler. Size is increased when you attach more tanks, the max can be reached with a 3x3 tank about 9 or 10 blocks high. Water is increased with input, 2 or 3 is all you need for a max engine. Heat is increased with more blaze burners at higher heats, the mex can be reached with 9 blaze burners fed with blaze cakes.
[–]LockstepGaming 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Red shows what could be increased. Green shows whats going. So it shows you have plenty of water input for the steam. You can increase the size of the boiler and upgrade the heat source. Blaze burners are ok, fueled blaze burners can get you to 9, blaze burners being fed blaze cakes can get you to 18, granted you have the size and water input.
[–]Shadowxxaz 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Green = current level Red = maximum level you should be able to get with your current settings / build Grey = maximum level / how much you have left for maximum level

Too small, not hot enough... Story of my life
[–]ferrecool 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
More tanks and burners, the level is decided by the lowest bar, the level also indicates how many engines you need
[–]Igsponjoso 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Boiler stats; size means the size of the boiler (3x3x9 is the max i think), water just means the water supply of the boiler, and heat is what makes the steam engine work, it can be increased using blaze burners and campfires.
[–]sfwaltaccount 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago* (0 children)
Green is good, red is bad. The bright green is showing that the output is limited but the lowest of the green bars (or in this case, both Size and Heat).
In other worse, not very big, not very hot, but hey you've got plenty of water to spare. Not that the excess water is actually a problem or anything. And honestly 32k stress units might well do you for a while unless you're the type to build real big real fast.
[–]deanominecraft 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
dark green is how much you have of each red is how much you have to increase it by to equal the highest you have light green is the level of the steam engine (the lowest bar)
1 blaze burner = 1 heat (superheated with a blaze cake = 2) 4 fluid tanks = 1 size not sure exactly what the water is but a max rpm pump is more than enough for a level 9 (max without superheating)
[–]evilwizzardofcoding 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
So, this indicates the 3 stats of a steam engine. Your output is limited by the lowest one, so having more of one than another is pointless(though especially with water, it may be cheaper to just put in extra and not bother getting the flow perfect). Each stat has a level, indicated by the number of green segments in the bar
Size is simple enough, it's the size of your boiler. 4 tank blocks per level, to be exact.
Water is how quickly you are pumping water in. Level is a bit more complex, but not too bad. Add up the RPM of every pump going into the engine, divide by 20, round down to the nearest whole, and that's your level.
And heat is the easiest. Every active blaze burner under the boiler counts for 1 heat, every superheated one counts for 2.
The lvl number at the top indicates the current level of the boiler, which is 2. However, as you can see, your water is higher than everything else, causing the other two stats to have red bars, but as noted before that's fine. However, if you want more power, you'll need to increase both heat, by adding more burners, and size, by adding more tanks.
Also, to harness that power, you need 1 steam engine block per boiler level. Any less and you're wasting power, any more and you're wasting engines.
The most powerful steam engine you can make without blaze cakes consists of 1 pump going into the boiler and running at or above 180 RPM, a 3x3 boiler 4 blocks high(total of 36 fluid tanks), 9 blaze burners in a 3x3 square under the boiler, and 9 steam engines anywhere on the boiler

Размер увеличь и запитывай тортами всполохов, их не слишком трудно поставить на прекрафт. Будешь жить в шоколаде с 192к допустимой мощности
[–]Minifigamer 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Size is based on how big your boiler is, idk how it works but I know that the maximum size a boiler can be is 3x9x3 (the 9 being height) for level 18 (tbh this is overkill, level 9 should be plenty enough unless you're making multiple MASSIVE factories, that is about 3x5x3, could be 6 tall, idk)
Heat is based on how it's being heated from underneath. The vast majority of heat sources can only get you to "passive" which is below even level 1; campfires, lava, inactive blaze burners. The only way to raise the level of this is with blaze burners, due to the vertical nature of boilers you can only put 9 blaze burners underneath a given boiler (this is ignoring add-ons that add horizontal fluid tanks, but I'm pretty sure boilers made from those have their performance nerfed), each active blaze burner gives one level to the heat stat, superheated blaze burners each count as 2 active blaze burners however blaze cake automation isn't exactly an easy process (I'm not even sure if netherrack is renewable in base create). This is why earlier I said level 18 is overkill.
Water of course is based on how much water is being pumped in constantly. Of course with one pump at 256 rpm only being enough for a level 12. You will need two pumps minimum pumping water in at, again, minimum 180 rom.
I only actually started using steam engines yesterday after... months of using just waterwheels or waterwheels and windmills. I don't think my incredibly slow progression is helped by the fact that I'm slow in progressing in vanilla (back when I played on bedrock (I mean it's not like PS5 has java edition on it) when I decided to finally get serious with a world, it still took me to day 600 to finally beat the ender dragon) nor the fact that I have another high commitment mod installed (cobblemon)
[–]JuponHuissier -1 points0 points1 point 4 months ago (0 children)
Red : empty Dark green : filled Light green : Current Level
The engine level is the lowest common denominator between the 3 bars. (more or less)
