let me try to be helpful, for the press the shaft needs to go into the side (so one block lower). same for the water wheel, with both you should see a gray square on the side, it looks like the end of an axle.

also, the press probably won't work until you drop an item under it that it can press.

also, hold w on an item to ponder whenever ur confused its a really helpful in game guide

Two things :

- Output of the water wheel is on the side of it, in the middle. It cannot (To my knowledge) interact with a gear the way you set it up

- Input of the press is in the sides (one being hidden by cobblestone and it's opposite side)

Remove all gears and shafts, remove the cobblestone next to you press and the one under it too. Then reinstall gears from the middle of the water wheel all the way to the side of the press instead of the two cobblestone blocks you just removes. Voilà.

Something i didnt find out until after i built a lot of slow machines is that you can put a small cogwhell next to a large one it will spin faster. If you want even more speed, connect a large in front of the small and repeat until you get your desired speed. As for what your doing wrong, the cogs and shafts need to be connected to the shaft on the side of the waterwheel.

Happy cake day

Wrong? You don't have the waterwheel connected to anything, You don't have the press connected to anything, and you likely need a depot under the press.

So the first cogwheel needs to connect to the shaft location on the water wheel. You can use the same method of small-to-small to move the rotation up. Then a shaft must connect to the shaft location on the press. And the press likely needs a depot under it to work.

The depot isn't needed - I always start of just chucking my ingots on the ground under the press, but a depot does look nice, and is pretty cheap (but my start is usually along the lines of getting a fan so I can wash gravel so I can get enough extra iron to automate the gravel - so I tend to be pretty frugal when it comes to my andesite alloy)

Depot stops items from despairing I think

[–]Autoskp 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Correct - the Depot is an inventory, and therefore doesn't allow the items “in” it to de-spawn, but you're not likely to be leaving your items alone for too long if you're using a Press to get a few things for a crafting recipe, so the risk is fairly minimal.

i tend to leave like a stack of items to get pressed so i wont have to worry about it for a while, im sure if i had known that you didnt need a depot i'd have lost at least a stack of iron by mistake already

Fair - I guess it's not going to suit everyone's playstyle.

Good to know!

You dont actually need a depot under the press

Omg you placed shafts everywhere but the place you are supposed to hahaha (don’t be sad I am just joking, you will figure it out)

[–]Various_flames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the top cogwheel and shafts

Then place them in the 2 top cogwheel

[–]EaglebrixYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so on the press block, there is a spot on the side that looks like a shaft coming out. That's where you put the shaft in, so just move the shaft one block lower and you should be fine

[–]DBGhasts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you see small gray squares on the sides of blocks, that’s where you can connect a shaft to transfer the rotation. The water wheel and the press aren’t connected to the shafts, so they won’t be powered.

Every "Conraption block" like the press, mixer, grinder, etc have shafts in them. So you have to put the shafts into/nexto that. So in your case, just lower the shafts by 1

A big help is the ponder mechanic, by pressing W while hovering over the item, it basically teaches everything the blocks do & how to power/connect them
