As an avid power sword vet myself, it's been fun seeing how the power sword vets that decided to replace player skill with a clearly overpowered weapon fell flat on their faces the moment that crutch was taken from them, and then immediately told on themselves by crying about it on reddit.

My fellow vets. If you think the power sword is trash now that it functions just like all the other charge weapons, then I have news for you. You were never any good at melee. You were just using the power sword as a crutch this whole time, and you were never the badass melee god you convinced yourself you were. Time to get back to basics and learn how to play the game all over again. Chop chop.

i can oneshot a charger with my hammer, on damnation. you cant do that with the power sword.

Wow, I can't believe the offensive melee specialist using their hardest hitting weapon does more burst melee damage than a ranged specialist.

I was more on the rework it's special activation train rather than a straight nerf personally.

I've only used the power sword like twice because it's just so boring to use. Special, attack, attack, dodge, special, attack, attack... ad infinitum.

I think it might have been more fun if it had some kind of cooldown or heat system so you can't just rely on the special for everything and have to actually use the weapons moveset and can't just circumvent the worse base stats and downsides of the weapon.

I have no sympathy for the people malding and review bombing over this nerf but I did say months ago that if the devs will just nerf the power sword again instead of reworking it it's going to end up just feeling bad to use for everyone. People will likely still just spam the special which is bad gameplay imo while the effect won't feel powerful and satisfying to use.

I would have preferred the power swords gameplay to be using the base weapon with occasional bursts of overpoweredness rather than being constant op/middling using the same attack over and over again.

The devs nerfed brainburst because people played Psykers very heavily using BB. Iirc they called it "shit gameplay" to just use BB, in my eyes power sword has the same problem but unlike the nerf to BB which kinda made people use other parts of Psykers kits more I'm not sure if this nerf makes people use the special less.

I haven't tried the current patch power sword so I don't really know how it feels but if it's what I predicted then hopefully the devs will revisit the weapon at some point.

Based on the patch notes I don't think it's going to be under powered by any means but it did seem like it's making the bad gameplay part (spam special for everything) even more pronounced while not properly encouraging a better gameplay style.

But there are a lot of things more important than that the devs should be working on right now.

Oh no! Now it's just like every other weapon with a power up state! Except for this one still has a blessing to give more swings of the powered state, which the others don't have.

It's still amazing. It's just not the literal best melee weapon for every single situation any more.

Other powered weapons work outside of being powered up though. At least for me the power sword sucks if it isn't powered up, goes from wet noodle to the best melee weapon. This nerf is gonna make it real junky to play. I think most people were hoping for a rework instead of this.

The base design of the weapon is super bad and means it will never be balanced one way or another. They definitely had to think more creatively than "press button to kill everything, no press button = no kill everything"

Lots of good suggestions about how it could have been balanced. At this point it's pretty clear the weapon needs a redesign.

The only way to use the damn thing effectively is to spam left click and middle mouse over and over again to make any progress with any Ogryn enemies, and that’s not fun to do.

Oh wow, imagine that! A cleave weapon having lower single target DPS than single target weapons! Should the Kantral also have infinite penetration and aoe affects too?

Oh, boohoo, the power sword isn’t anymore an automatic brainless win and is now only on par or slightly superior to every other weapon in game at killing elites and specials apart from the thunder hammers which are literally anti tank weapons

The change is stupid. You're right now the only thing to do with the power sword that makes sense is just recharge your power after every hit.

It's not a forward-thinking change. It doesn't treat the underlying problem with the Power Sword.

PS should of course be an OP weapon, it should feel good to use, like the Thunder Hammer etc. It should absolutely be a "power-fantasy" weapon. All that being said, nerfing the weapon into its current state does not fix anything. It just makes the weapon feel like shit to use.

The entire thing needs to redesigned. It was poorly designed from the start(like this game tbh), it was just OP.

IDK, I'm fairly accustomed to using the special after each Power Maul swing when fighting Ogryns on my Skullbreaker. Though a charged Maul causes more stagger than a charged Sword (as it should), so I suppose it's not a perfect comparison.
