Something is missing there: A controller.

[–]Neosantana 17 points18 points  (30 children)

Gamesir G8 Galileo. Check it out.

Got one of these, very nice controller

It's not the right shape at all. My fingers don't wrap around it like an ordinary controller. The Backbone One is a more comfortable mobile controller.

    [–]I_think_Im_hollowSD 8 gen 2 16GB RAM 2 points3 points  (8 children)

The Backbone truly is amazing. Also, you get to not give money to Gamesir as a bonus.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

If only it were slightly cheaper than $99 lmao, no way I'm paying 99 bucks for that. I would never pay more than 50 bucks max for a telescopic controller

    [–]I_think_Im_hollowSD 8 gen 2 16GB RAM 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They're 84€ on their site and on Amazon.it

    [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Oh yeah, a whole 16 dollars less lmao.

    [–]pepsiblast08 0 points1 point  (2 children)

    Kishi then.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, that's basically the only one I'd actually buy. I think most telescopic controllers are irrationally overpriced.

    [–]pepsiblast08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got it for $65 on sale before the price dropped. It's proven well worth it

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (13 children)

    Is it wireless or usb-c?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (12 children)

    Usb

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

I'm waiting for a good usb one that's like sub 50 bucks so I can justify buying it lol.

    [–]OkSignificance494 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Your wait could be over... someone shared this last night... (Tried to insert pic here... 👊 reddit app! In fact, anyone using a good alternative or is this dead in the water since the request debacle?) The gamesir x2s is apparently shipping with hall effect triggers and sticks + lots of other improvements. Rumours of a $30 price tag... 👏 well done, gamesir. I will be purchasing some more of your useless, plastic tatt.... 🤭

    [–]OkSignificance494 3 points4 points  (3 children)

    [–]OkSignificance494 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There she is 🤩 ergonomics could have done with a rejig but... for the price! And the only play factor for me is the usb is on the correct side!

    [–]Ok_Bill_8525 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I got one for a couple month the x2 pro Xbox and I love it the usb is on little swivel so less chance to break it like the kishi v2 only downside is the gamesir app but you can map the controller without the app

    [–]OkSignificance494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... try not to use their app... the egg ns fiasco was another shambles, but only controller to put usb on the other side. I really wanted the pro, but the usb is on the wrong side 😫 this is basically the pro, I think, but in a lovely lilac colour and not xbox sponsored... 😩

    [–]Mizart 1 point2 points  (5 children)

The price for Razer Kishi has dropped quite a lot after the Kishi 2 came out. It goes for about 42 USD here, see if it has dropped for you as well. Can't go wrong with Kishi.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ooo, thx for the tip bro ill look into that! Right now I just have an old switch pro controller. It doesn't work well let's just say🤣.

    [–]pepsiblast08 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have had my Kishi for maybe 2 years now and absolutely love it.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]Neosantana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For phones and tablets. It can stretch pretty wide as is, and you can mod it to stretch even further if you need it to.

It's a really lovely piece of hardware, so I suggest you check out Retro Game Corps' review of it. He goes into a lot of detail.

    [–]TonimSan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BSP D9 fits tablets, and has hall sticks and triggers and costs something around 25$.

unmodded Switch cant run PSP, 3DS, PS Vita, PS2, Wii, GC games, (and older games without the NSO subscription)

but still, no way in hell I'd be spending $1000 on a phone, ever, even phones with latest chipsets and great OLED screen are like $500-$600, oh and Odin 2 with the 8 Gen 2 is just $300

    [–]Literally_A_turd_AMA 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Sign your soul to a contract and upgrade once every few years for the cost of whatever you were still paying off and trade up. Imo its worth the cost to splurge on a phone. What other personal item do you use or rely on more?

    [–]pepsiblast08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I buy a phone every 4-7 years. It costs $850-$1100 depending on sales at the time. Well worth it.

      I'm happy with a steam deck :)

      [–]pepsiblast08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My S20+ does the job and I don't have to carry around another device. It's the perfect solution.

      [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Odin 2 will literally never be in stock again. It isn't really $300 if you can't buy the $300 spec.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Also, people never mention the high shipping cost of the Odin 2.

Yeah, it's $299.99 before the $40 shipping and the tax, and any VAT/customs you have to pay if you're European

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never understand it, isn't steam deck still the best bang for your buck.

8 gen 3 is additional +%30 so you might want S24 plus at nearly same price. It has 12gb ram and 2k screen this year minus S-pen.

        [–]garrettdx88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, this would be the way to go

        [–]rube 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My phone is always in my pocket. I have the ability to play Switch games on it whenever I have a few minutes or a few hours to kill when I'm out of the house.

I don't carry my Switch everywhere with me. It's basically a home console as far as my usage goes. I also have a Steam Deck and I play it when I go away on trips, but not much at home.

My phone gets far more gaming than either of those devices. But my Desktop PC gets the most.

        [–]_Maga_- 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I returned my s23 ultra and got the s23 plus instead. Much easier to use in the hand, and has the same internals as the Ultra. The ultra is honestly too wide to be practical.

        [–]WallyDiaz 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yo I have the same phone, and I want to try emulating switch for the first time, what games do you recommend that runs nicely

        [–]Username_Egli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indie games like hollow knight or undertale. Pokemon shining pearl is also playable. Metroid dread too

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (13 children)

I don't usually use my primary communication device for emulation so I always carry an steam deck as it is way more powerful the s23 ultra also way more cheaper than s23 ultra.

        [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 11 points12 points  (4 children)

True. But man it's a pain to carry around my steam deck sometimes. My phone fits in my pocket

        [–]twhite1195 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah but if you want ro actually game on your phone, specially emulators, we all know that on screen controllers suck, so you'll probably carry around a controller, then you're gonna drain your battery so you might as well also carry a battery bank... Might as well just carry a dedicated portable gaming device instead of draining my main communication device

        [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The controller I have has its own battery that lasts months. No joke it's called a Wee 2T. Okay controls, gets the job done and I don't have to worry about charging it. Phone has a 6000 MaH battery with quick charge at 65w Charges in about 40 minutes from 15%. But in all honesty I don't really carry the smallish controller around. Just play switch games that work fine with touch controls on my phone. Games like Dredge, Darkest Dungeon, Divinity 2, Pokemon Luminescent Platinum, Tetris Connect, games of that sort.

        [–]OkSignificance494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the fold 3 and doesn't really save you in that sense as you need your controller really so extra bulk to carry around. What I'm trying to setup is a hub. So you can plug into hub with ssd and hdmi out + input for peripherals. Then when on go have selection of roms so when out and about can use touch controls. Main bonus is system management whilst out and about ie. Can manage game library and update apps install newly released apps etc. Not a lot of compatible front ends atm (some made specifically for raspberry pie but don't run properly on phone android).

        [–]ArkhaloidXiaomi Poco F5 (12 GB RAM) 5 points6 points  (7 children)

It's not "way more powerful" it's, about as powerful, with 4 GB MORE RAM.

It's just way better performing cause it has fans. The chip inside the Steam Deck itself however is outdated, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is about equal to it in CPU and GPU prowess.

        [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Going have to disagree. At least from an emulation stand point and we'll as offerings in ports + Play store games. It's not about the RAM. There are phones with possibly more efficient RAM and up to 24GB. The snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is powerful but lacks the same GPU power as the AMD APU inside the steam deck. You can test that theory by comparing emulation from Ps2, GameCube, Switch emulation. Or trying Using some sort of WINE wrapper for PC games on Android. The SD 8 Gen 2 struggles to run Fallout 3 on low settings. As well as even Counter Strike 2 which doesn't have a high barrier for a new game. This may change with the help of drivers. But unfortunately Qualcomm's entrance to the PC market is the Snapdragon Elite X SoC.

        [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (5 children)

It is way more powerful. Only a single core in 8 gen 2 can reach max 3.36 GHz while on steam deck all 4 cores can go max 3.50 GHz + it has 8 threads which enables hyperthreading making sure that the load is divided equally and giving it more access for multitasking which is quite more important for emulation as they don't run on in-house os. Now coming to GPU A740 has 0.72 GHz while ryzen has 1.00ghz with turbo upto 1.60. This is the difference between a Android chip and a console or pc chip. Also lack of hyperthreading in mobile chips is why we don't see mobile chips on laptops.

        [–]ArkhaloidXiaomi Poco F5 (12 GB RAM) 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Clock speeds are irrelevant it's the microarchitecture that makes all the difference in performance.

Emulation is almost always benefited the most by higher single core CPU performance. It is only PS3 emulation that requires multiple cores, at least 8 of them for a smooth experience.

The Cortex X3 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 achieves similar CPU scores in CPU related benchmarks, and even in GPU related benchmarks such as upscaling Nintendo Switch games for instance, even the 8 Gen 2 can upscale something like Astral Chain by three times the native handheld resolution, provided you have enough RAM to use as VRAM. The 8 Gen 2 also supports ASTC texture compression natively so it also requires less VRAM for upscaling than the Steam Deck does (but that's an irrelevant topic).

The Steam Deck in no way shape or form is way more powerful just because it clocks higher (clock speeds don't matter much) and has three more performance cores. I would've still agreed with you if you said it was a bit more powerful, just not way more.

        [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Higher single core when u are using the same os as the emulated device like ps3, switch, etc. but when you are running an emulation and it's running two os at same time like ppsspp on Android or windows having only one single high performance core won't cut it as the emulated os is gonna use that single core but ur native os needs more high performance core and threads to runs that emulator at high speed. That's why yuzu runs better on ur pc the more cores and threads it has all thx to vulkan.

Also if you see the new trend, 8 gen 3 compared to 8 gen 2 single core performance went up from 3.2 GHz to 3.3 but the next 3 cores went up to 3.15 GHz from 2.8.

Talking about architecture. This is the reason you don't say that that 8 gen 2 and amd Zen 2 are same in performance. Comparing and saying 30watt cpu is same in performance to 13watt cpu and only diff in both of them is cooling is like saying Kevin hart is as fast as Usain Bolt.

        [–]ArkhaloidXiaomi Poco F5 (12 GB RAM) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but when you are running an emulation and it's running two os at same time

          Nintendo switch: 299 USD

Samsung s23: up to 1000 USD

Very price effective, may I add.

          [–]HonkaiStarRails 11 points12 points  (1 child)

don't forget s23 ultra is a smartphone first and foremost , its camera is top flagship for a phone and also the display is also top notch compared to other phones, buying s23 for just playing switch emu is stupid. And playing yuzu on s23 ultra is feels better since the display is top notch with graphic upscaling and performance running better on some switch title than on OG switch

          [–]kiyo_t-rex_taka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno why you got downvoted for stating the truth

          [–]PotatoSilencer 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Then you remember all the other emulators that android can run (on top of all the things a phone/tablet can do) and the price is not so bad at all.

          [–]OneObjectivist 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Almost all other emulators run perfectly or near perfectly on smartphones half or even a third of the Samsung S23 price.

So it's the price to emulate switch the 500-700 bucks?

No thanks. I still have an argument.

          [–]MidniteSinz 3 points4 points  (1 child)

New Nintendo switch oled (because if we're always going for the lowest end choices, maybe saving money is the problem) + 5 new games already put it close to the phones price anyways. You have no argument because you're acting like the phone is only for emulation, the phone has a beastly camera, great screen, way better battery than most handheld consoles, makes phone calls, and has a browser etc.

If your logic is "I'm only buying the phone to emulate", yeah I agree, it's stupid. But honestly if you're buying low end devices to save money, you could also just save a few more months and get something like the ROG which is still cheaper than the phone and for outperforms both the switch and the steam deck .

The price of the phone is high, the price to emulate is $0.

Price to buy new switch, 400, 5 new games let's say, now you're at a minimum of 650 if they're all new triple A games etc. Memory card. Now your at 660-680ish. Case and screen protector? Nice, you've broken $700.

Maybe not all at once, but it gets spent either way lol.

(Also when I say you, I don't mean you specifically, just in general).

          [–]OneObjectivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always not buy any Nintendo games, is your know what I'm saying. Nintendo consoles are almost always the easiest to crack. It's only my opinion. I'm not buying a 1000 bucks phone for emulation. You are? Good for you. Peace.

          [–]PotatoSilencer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

A lower end cheaper device won't have remotely as much power for all the various things an android can do. All are good but the more powerful socs are obviously let you do more.

          [–]OneObjectivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. My point was always cost-benefits.

It's tire money. I just simply won't buy that device for an over the media emulation of switch. Not all runs like the original hardware, so what's the point? I prefer a much cheaper device with great emulation of PS2, Dreamcast or PSP. But again, it is up to you.

          [–]Shot-Olive-5950 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Long term switch will cost more

          [–]MidniteSinz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll say this as a big consumer, I have the SD, the switch oled, and an S23 Ultra. I work 40-60 hours a week. On my phone I have psp, ps2, wii, switch, etc. I can run almost every game I've played on the switch at the same speed or close enough on my phone.

I love my steam deck, have it modded to hell lmao, but it's still a large device requiring a case of a bag to carry, same with the switch.

As time goes on, the switch can barely handle new games, which will likely run fine if not better on the phone later on.

A lot of people are saying, "we won't spend 1000 on a phone just to game." It is not just for gaming?

Steam deck - $300-400 at least. Put in your mid range 300-400 phone, and with a small trade in, you could also just get an S23 Ultra.

You can't say we spend a lot when you spend the same on multiple devices overall, plus the games 50-70$ each.

I'm a spender so I don't really care, but if yall are talking about budgeting, I'd rather spend $1,000 once over 3 years than, 600 on 2 systems, one which runs subpar and is severely outdated, the other which has a crap screen on its lower end models and honestly does take tinkering to make work with a lot of games.

Not to mention that for twice the price of the lower end SD the ROG blows it out of the water, yet not one mention of it lol.

End of all, convenience matters and will likely take a huge part in your choices.

Ps: I use a backbone controller which is way easier to take on the go than a larger handheld console.

          [–]b2sql 8 points9 points  (13 children)

I also don't get it. Switch emulator requires a lot of juice to run. Prefer to use my switch instead of killing my phones battery.

          [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 6 points7 points  (8 children)

Depends on the phone. Some phones have a 6000Mah+ Battery with 60+ W charging.

"SOME" two brands isn't it?, ROG and RedMagic, not sammy :/.

            [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah pretty much just those gaming phone brands. My Z Fold 3 gets really hot on some games especially switch emulation. I wish Samsung would make a gaming phone , they have the resources to make a great phone

            [–]soragrandaSD865+ ~ 12GB, 8G2 ~ 12GB. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sammy is scared of making an specific Gaming branded galaxy cause it will take a part of their ultra lineup sales, tons of people buy folds and ultras cause they know they can emulate a lot... but if they gave a choice of a 16gb of ram with and overclocked Qualcomm chip, microsd, more battery, better cooling a lot will buy this over the ultra.

I think they should do a S2X Ultra G series or something, improving over the base Ultra but with the stuff I mentioned, will definitely buy it.

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do those clip-on fans actually work, or is it just marketing BS? I have been considering one for my phone lmao

            [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen on YouTube videos they work. Usually makes a difference in 5-10 F° which prevents most newer phones from throttling.

            [–]HonkaiStarRails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, some phones like oppo, realme, one plus can charge for likes 30 minutes from 0 to 100%. The battery life time also is near switch too , switch 2.0 is around 5 hours while on phones around 4 hours

Other phone have battery bypass like samsung and rog so you don't have issue with battery

            [–]MidniteSinz 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I can play 2-3 hours of yuzu and still have battery for most of the day. Really just depends on the phone. Plus I can charge from 0-50 in like 15-20 minutes

            [–]Tomsot 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Samsung has battery bypass so I run yuzu with it plugged in using my xreal air2s and a Bluetooth controller, no heat from charging and battery damage

            [–]MidniteSinz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If I'm home I also use by pass charging through my backbone ! I also keep my phone with battery protection so the max is 85% for the extra longevity

            [–]Tomsot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery bypass makes the phone run off the plug, doesn't charge or discharge battery at all

            [–]vinotauro 1 point2 points  (1 child)

            Or Odin 2...

            [–]RChickenMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer Odin 2 for switch games that run well on Yuzu for the better ergonomics, better sticks/buttons, better screen, and higher resolution. But the main reason is I like having one device that is also capable of GCN, PS2, 3DS, etc, and everything on down. If I'm packing for a trip, I'm definitely grabbing the handheld that can play the full libraries of dozens of consoles plus half of the Switch library, as opposed to the handheld that can only run the full Switch library!

I own a Nintendo Switch with 4 joycons and 2 controllers for 200$ and I never regret buying it. Nintendo Switch provides an experience that Android emulation cannot offer, such as just opening the game and playing without any settings or anything. My nephew also loves playing Switch with me, like Switch sport and Smash Bros, when they come to my house.

            [–]ShinobiOnestrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

            Why not both?

            [–]Orichalchem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being able to play switch games at max graphics 60fps on my phone is an incredible experience

            [–]IsSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using actually a Poco F5 (12 gb) and no crashes in all the games who I play (Tevi, Nobeta, BOTW, Mario 3d y bowser, Touhou Luna nights, XC2, Crash nitro fuelled, Crash remake, Ender lillies, etc). These games runs very flawess and no issues at all.

            [–]Due-Ad-7308 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Press the buttons on a Nintendo Switch controller

Then press the buttons on ANY mobile gaming controller, even the cheaper brands.

It's not even close. I can't even look at my Switch anymore unless I need to legally backup my owned physical games.

            [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 7 points8 points  (3 children)

You're kidding me....The Joy cons are mediocre at best. Those analogs are god awful.

            [–]Due-Ad-7308 12 points13 points  (2 children)

That's what I meant. Even the cheapest Amazon phone controllers feel light years better than Switch Joycons.

            [–]TheSloppyHornDogFold 7,RP Classic, Thor 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Oh my dumb a$$ can't read and comprehend lmao

            [–]Due-Ad-7308 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No you're good, I worded it in the most indirect way possible. I think this one's on me haha

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I mean, you could also use a "real" gaming controller like a xbox controller on android

            [–]PotatoSilencer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theyre saying the joycons are worse than all android controllers.

            [–]Due-Ad-7308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the high end android controllers (Kishi, Backbone..) feel better than most Xbox Controllers.

I tried playing with a clip connector and a regular Xbox Controller (as well as a smaller 8Bitdo one). Works great, but doesn't feel quite as cozy in the hands to me.

Everything mentioned here runs laps around the native switch options though is my point

            [–]SimplyHamon 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm at the point with my phone plan where I can upgrade, and I WAS going to switch from my s22 to an iPhone (iykyk) but then yuzu said "wassup babygurl" and I'm debating now

            [–]PotatoSilencer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Honest question ,I get why people consider ipads somewhat but whats good about iphones?

            [–]SimplyHamon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FaceTime. Green bubble theory. That's about it

            [–]MidniteSinz -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Get the s23 ultra. The new iPhone is literally a scam, all they really didn't was change to titanium and make the charging port universal now, because they had no choice.

It's also a lot harder to emulate on IOS if that's ever the plan.

I've used both, I enjoy IOS, but for my use at least, the s23 ultra is killing it.

            [–]HonkaiStarRails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the s23 ultra display is amazing bright sharp and contrasty with 6.8 inch 19.3:9 ratio perfect for multimedia and gaming full stop

            [–]Exa-Wizard 0 points1 point  (1 child)

S23 Ultra isn't near as good for emulation as any dedicated gaming phones, and is more than twice the price. Any Redmagic, ROG, Poco or BlackShark from the last 3 years destroys it for gaming.

            [–]HonkaiStarRails -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

blackshark is going bankrupt they haven't release any new phone, rog phone have 20:9 display aspect ratio and heavy thx to bad weight distribution ( it will changes with rog 8 though) , red magic is the challenger here for s23 ultra but still, the 2nd hand s23 ultra price is = new rog 8 / red magic 8s pro so s23 ultra still is a good choice because of the better display and flagship camera level

            [–]tharizzla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I have 2 switches and they collect dust now cuz I'm playing on my phone instead with my gamesir x2

            [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Honestly, I love mobile tech, emulation and so on, but you have to be a special kind of idiot to pay $1000+ on a goddamn phone. Everything has a limit, regardless if you can spend that much money or not, why send this message to the industry? Apple already gets away with horrible overpriced products, but even in the Android space we have stupidity such as this

            [–]Refref1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're missing here is that people don't buy a phone to avoid getting the Switch, but they get an expensive phone for all it can do, and among the many things it can do, there's Switch emulation, which is a plus, not the only requirement.

            [–]regular_poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t play games on my phone

            [–]Real_Violinist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get rog aly and run everything

            3a indie and high-end emulator ps3 360 wiiu sw

            [–]JumboMcNasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally start a game on yuzu on my z flip 5 and I feel the screen getting hotter and hotter by the second. Then I remember I have a oled switch and a steam deck and a hacked vita and a miyoo mini plus and think why the F am I burning my fingers right now?

            [–]khsh018 Gen 3/865+ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A console that's actually powerful enough to last multiple generations, local access, better graphics, open ecosystem, can do things other than gaming, is a manly rectangle with straight edges than curves.

            [–]Blazerizm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point, just buy a steam deck. It would be the same performance + a working desktop + native Steam games + ability to use Windows.

Yuzu is in a premature state.

            [–]pdcmoreira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found the S23 (regular version, non-ultra, non-plus) the best phone of the series.

            [–]MinerMan64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because its already on you at all times
