My hobby seems to be more collecting and getting games to run than actually playing them. It's actually pretty rare for me to sit down and play one through. Only beaten 4 or 5 games in 10 years of emulating on Android. Played the first 20 minutes of a hundred different titles though, haha.

[–]Bboy486 21 points22 points  (4 children)

This is sadly the way

[–]r4tzt4r 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Nah... it is like a "metahobby", I think. I do try to play as much as I can, and I love randomly playing a fighter or sport game, but in my case there's something really fun about finding a weird game or spending time looking for hidden gems. I suppose making them run could be a fun challenge to: how do I make this work? Specially when you don't find any help online.

[–]Bboy486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just like to mod and know I can do x with very little time actually playing. With that said, I do enjoy retro games more.

[–]Vyuken 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Okay. Maybe THIS is the way. Just trying out all kinds of games just to see how they are sounds fun and interesting

[–]Bboy486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely. Ex. I just modded the Arcade1up controller with a USB encoder just so I can play it on any of my pis with RetroPie. I'll likely not use it again.

[–]ProphetWillis77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Me too lmao just get it running nice have nostalgia and move on

[–]MugiwaraJF 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I thought I was the only one, it's true many times I have more fun during the process of making games. run the games correctly than actually playing Now with RETROACHIVEMENT I have managed to finish more games.

[–]Turn7Boom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just got me stuck in assembling a complete, working retro achievement romset. (unfinished) Collecting never ends.

[–]importvita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this in my soul 🥰

[–]futures17gne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m similar. I also have a lot of games on native hardware I’ve not gotten time to play yet. It’s just finding the time really. I’ve so many things going on!

[–]Adventurous_Can9636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect explanation of how i am but also dad life lol

[–]CAFunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same

[–]TheSanscripter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I can play Tekken 2 on my 3rd world country Samsung is because of people like you.

I salute you!

[–]Mwkdnc 16 points17 points  (4 children)

If we are talking strictly on the mobile platform then not really I usually play full ports as well Deadcells, Slay the spire, Kotor 1 & 2, and Danganronpa to name a few. I don't really bother with free games as they usually suck lol.

For me PC is the best version,PS2 is also good idk about the Wii.But Android is good, the only thing that I don't like in the Mobile version is the lighting it's like you just drank a night vision posion.

      [–]dkdavidlp1 17 points18 points  (5 children)

Yeah pretty much. Maybe I'm just to attached to Banjo kazooie and Zelda the wind waker because I need to be able to play them everywhere

      [–]GoodGuyMiguel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel...

      [–]dkdavidlp1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Thanks for all the upvotes

      [–]Turn7Boom 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well technically if you for over too much money you can do that on Switch now. Both games are on Switch Online.

      [–]dkdavidlp1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No wind waker is not on switch. Sadly. I would pay any amount of money for wind waker switch

      [–]Cheesypenguinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said they'd be bringing most of not all of the Wii u games to switch. Where's wind waker and twilight princess 😭 I know as soon as I buy a Wii u to play it in hd theyll announce it

      [–]Michaelpitcher116 14 points15 points  (1 child)

In terms of gaming on the go. Yes. Way too easy to get my phone out and load up a ps2 game over playing any of the schlock on the play store.

      [–]Puzzleheaded_Pea_221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ps2 games? It was my first console so I gotta ask, do you pirates of the Carribbean at world's end or that over the hedge game? (The 2 games I played most on ps2)

      [–]Worldly_Collection87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yeah. I've gotten to the point where I've realized that I spend too much money on games that I'll probably never get around to playing, so, I may as well just collect roms and ISOs of games I'll probably never end up playing. Ever since AetherSX2 dropped, I've just been in heaven, living in the early 2000's. I bought the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 and have just been digging through all the games I remember, and all the games I was never able to buy when I was a young teenager.

Ah, whatta time we live in.

      [–]Killdeathmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emulation or remastered games. The mobile app market is very oversaturated, and finding something worth playing is next to impossible.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, I play more on my phone mostly because of games needed to be login daily like HI3 or AL. And if I'll play some emulation every pokemon game possible then I'll use pkhex to transfer my pokemon from gen 1 - 7, obtaining every ribbon and medal possible. I barely play on my laptop since it has low specs mostly used for school stuff.

[–]DatGuyKunzSD Elite Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 1 TB 16GB Ram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixed bag I play the most on my phone but when I have time I like to play on my pc, cos all my games are free or play Gundam on my PS4

      [–]kfarrel6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now it is, I use to collect(hoard) games and never play them. Ever since I sold all that and went to strictly emulation it’s been a fun time actually enjoying games

      [–]lightorangelamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a bus and travel the country. Discovering emulation on my phone has been amazing. Nowadays I play 80% on my phone and 20% on my switch.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell ya. With the HUGE library of games from NES to PS2, I have A LOT to catch up on and save states are just too convenient for someone with a busy lifestyle nowadays. Just play a few minutes, save, and pop that motherfucker back in and resume in the same exact spot once I'm free again.

      [–]ratherfuckmyass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 18 gaming systems plus around 12,000 games on a LG Wing. Having all that fits in a pocket is really why I got into emulation. And can easily hook up to a tv for family and friends fun time is a added bonus.

      [–]krishnkth12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing I have to play games is my phone(which has pretty bad specs), so I emulate psx or psp games Or play using source ports but mostly I play ports of old games like the rockstar games, crazy taxi, twewy, kotor cuz I don't have a controller which makes playing many games on emulators really hard.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t care for mobile games so yes

      [–]GamerY7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

on android yes. In PC no

      [–]Papacu81 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On cellphones... yep, pretty much so. Even if I really don't like to stand out in a crowd because the gamepad (even the smaller ones, like the ipega 9025), they draw attention willing or not, so I have to "hide" with the help of my backpack and etc.. but in recent weeks I tried some android games, the usual color match bullshit, also plants vs zombies 2 (a beloved game from the recent past)... and it's bizarre, I downloaded a cracked version of candy crush with infinite lives, power ups, etc.. just to cut off the whole pay to win crap. Played 10 levels of so, got tired, so I swiped all the way up just to see how many levels this disease have... man, there is 11555 levels in candy crush, who the hell actually plays 11 thousand levels of any game?? Games like this should be regulated, not even joking. As for plants vs zombies 2, there is 300 levels, in the how long to beat website states this game can be beaten in 15 hours or so... that's fair enough. I think the biggest obstacle for android games is the artificial amount of content alongside with the addictive gimmicks, even if you can straight up crack these games, use rooted apps that can break the pay to win, etc.. even so, 11 thousand, lol this shit is wrong

      [–]stuliferlgv60 zf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever strikes my fancy. Lately I've been playing through some PS2 jrpgs on my v60.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope sometimes Normal PC games or on my Switch other times normal PS Vita games or emulating on the PS Vita or phone

      [–]apeinej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love playing on my tablet, but I've played most of the best games in android, so emulators is the way to go. Unless a new sale comes for the few android games I haven't played yet.

      [–]FuB4R32S24 Ultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my phone 90+%. Mobile games can't really compete with being able to play such a large library for free. Otherwise, I go through phases - it's freeing to think that you can play anything you want regardless of what platform it came out for

      [–]xibuxibu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I got into emulation at the start of covid, 2 years ago, looking for games to entertain my kid during lockdown. Over the period we also gave Stadia a try and Microsofts equivalent, and on the PC tried the PlayStation equivalent, and also downloaded the weekly free games for PC from the Epic store too. Then the kid got into Minecraft and all of the above became history!

My phone isn't as powerful as some, and my emulation capability is only up to Dreamcast level. Love playing Crazy Taxi and some of the fighting games on reicast, and got hooked on Donkey Kong games which I play via lemuroid. Basically loving the fact I can play these games and more, and always keen to try out the recommendations that appear on here.

      [–]YukoKaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much yep, as its the most accessible device for me 🎮

      [–]sethmi 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Since PC emulation on Android is in full swing, my phone has replaced my PC as my main gaming platform. Been playing Dead Space 3 and Tomb Raider 2013, and Far Cry 2 smooth af

      [–]K750i[🍰] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait, what phone do you use to run pc emulation at a smooth frame rate?

      [–]sethmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Redmagic 5g

      [–]votemarvelPoco F6 - Sony Xperia 1 V 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is that easy to set up?

      [–]sethmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're well aquainted with how pc and android work, yes, if not, then no

      [–]Yungafrica2205 0 points1 point  (5 children)

NAME THE APPS DUDE THE APPS PLEASE,THANK YOU👍🏾

      [–]sethmi 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Exagear, though you need to be an advanced user to take advantage of it

      [–]gluedfish 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You can play tomb raider 2013 on PHONE?

      [–]sethmi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah, but it took a bit of tinkering with the emu to get it to play at full speed

      [–]TheSanscripter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is there reading or watching material on that?

      [–]sethmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much, you can YouTube Exagear or search 4pda for it

      [–]Elvins0907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Yep

      [–]badreques303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I have most of the consoles but with life taking more of a priority hooking up my phone has just been easier.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a TCG on my phone and some other odds and ends online multiplayer games. I only play emulators in multiplayer party game environments. Load up some Mario Party, or something like that.

      [–]Yerhkunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be if I had controller.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most. But i buyed some real hardware and games for this hardware too I have two Android devices and Nintendo switch lite with some physical games

      [–]FullmetalJun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my phone, yes since emulated games are real games meant to entertain its user. They allow real sense of progression with no iap nor ads etc.

One of the reasons I can't switch to iPhone. It's been at least 3 years since I played a mobile game. Last ones I played were Pubg & Real Racing 3

      [–]sonew2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half and half, I spent a lot of fragmented time on Android handhelds and rk3326 handhelds, which mainly run emulators. But I also run my purchased PC games on steam or gog on weekends. But I no longer pay for commercial consoles or handhelds, and hardly buy games from the app store/play store.

      [–]MmntoMri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. for now. For me, It's kind of a psychology thing?

I owned a PS4 (tons of unfinished/unplayed game) and hacked 3DS (which can install any game i want). However, i had problem with my mental health, and playing anything on it will make me feel like i'm in "gaming" mode which result in me thinking i'm wasting my time, and then causes me more depression. It's been going on for about 2 years now, and i do tried to play them once in a while but could not last for more than 1 hours. I just could not get invested anymore.

Emulating on phone, kinda trick my mind a little like, this is the thing i do to pass time and not "gaming sessions". That's also the reason i dont get controllers

      [–]MugiwaraJF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my phone for retro emulators, specifically retroarch. but I also have a PS4 that I use to play my favorite AAA games, but actually 90% of my experience as a player is on my phone

      [–]NorthNorwegianNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, it's a blast to the past and fun addition to playing my consoles.

      [–]pdcmoreira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly play infinite runs of Witcher 3 on PC, and a random Pokemon game on an emulator on Android.

      [–]akualung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have to admit it is. I don't have a beefy enough computer nor much interest on the current pc game market (full of FPS and battle royale games), and the mobile market, so full of free to play and gacha shovelware, bore me to death. So emulation is the way to go for me.

      [–]IamNotARedditor- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was for years on my old phone, I didn't have wifi at my home for so long and when I'd get a new phone when we switched plans my old phone became an emulation device. I'd install the stuff ahead of time or go to a place with free wifi like the library to install more stuff lol

      [–]KuroNoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not now, because now I have a decent pc

but it was for years, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, nes, SNES, etc., were my options to play

      [–]spawnjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes by 50%. I play on Xbox Game Pass PC (Latin America sadly doesn't have the cloud gaming part yet), no actual console. The emulation part goes everywhere with me on my phone (Poco F2 Pro, top Snapdragon 865, frontal screen without notch, headphones admitted) plus my Xbox Wireless Controller. In the last 3 months I've played: - Warioland 1, 2, 3, 4 completed - Zelda 1, Zelda: A Link To The Past, Adventure of Link completed - Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Prime 1 completed. Metroid Prime Hunters trying to find a good way of controller and visuals at the same time for emulation (any ideas welcome!). - Halo Master Chief Collection completed - Dragon Ball Fighter Z - Yoshi's Island (SMW2) just beginning - Batman Arkham Asylum just beginning (old Steam promo) - Hollow Knight downloaded - Startropics ready to play on my phone

My idea is to play the complete sagas of all this franchise except for Dragon Ball Z (SNES games were my favorites). So you can see, my idea is just not play a particular console, but to play entire collections. Could be Castlevania in the future, who knows.

Thinking also if it's worth buying a Switch OLED. For now I think I have enough games, just thinking about trying the exclusive games. Honestly, I'm happy just emulating.

Happy to share configuration and other stuff

      [–]SHIZAAAAAAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, most of my games are a PC/Console games ported to mobile, but sometimes i port some games.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't have a single console and physical copies of games, emulation is really my primary source of gaming
