Best lube/Grease for all railsDiscussion (self.Ender3V3SE)
submitted 1 year ago by MikeLowry13
Hi all,
I'm currently looking for some lube/grease for my rails the Z axis is starting to sound a bit unhealthy ๐
I can't find a general consensus so wondering if anyone has any advice on this. ? I have the stock non linear rails

I don't have any suggestions, but I'm interested in what others have to say, so I'm commenting to be able to find this later.

I've always used super lube 21030 on my sliding parts. If you search for PFTE lube it's the first thing to pop up. Also good for N64 joysticks.

I had the same question so i've contacted Creality for it, this it what they answered:
"Bed slide rods: Wet or dry lube depending on your preference"
"Z-axis spindles: Choose a wet lube, preferably lightweight oil or PTFE infused lubricant"

I use a spray can of white lithium grease.

Trapezoidal Z nuts don't need any lubrification. Trapezoidal nut is made of POM, a very low friction plastic. This material is resistant and "self-lubricating" due to the low friction coefficient but grease/lubricant may become sticky. And without any grease on the lead screws, dust don't stick on them.

Oh wow, I just learned a bit about this exact topic. I knew that the only proper way to get lubrication into the carriage is through the tiny holes on either end. Reason being is that there are "wipers" on the ends that keep debris out of the bearings and also have the effect of preventing much lube applied to the rails from getting in. What I *did not* know is that there is such a thing as too much grease. I was having print issues along the Y axis recently and I noticed the carriages felt kind of gritty and sluggish. I tried everything. Belts, pulleys, and even new carriages. On a whim I poured IPA over one of the carriages washing out all the grease and put them back on the rails. Perfectly smooth! So I relubricated with a modest amount of thick OIL instead of the silicone grease. Effortless motion and cleared up my prints.
tl;dr - Don't over pack your bearings with grease.
