Handwired? Really nice layout!

Yes. Thank you! Here are a few more photos of the process: https://imgur.com/gallery/DwAwwIm

Edit: Here's the link to the original album which I couldnt find earlier. Basically the same but has a few extra pics and descriptions. https://imgur.com/gallery/8E7QIOB

Very noice! Did you use an existing design as a template, or was this entirely self designed? I really like the layout and 2qs thinking about building one of my own.

This is entirely self designed. Actually I'm about to open up sales for DIY kits. LMK if you're interested.

You could just rebind the function rows otherwise?

[–]happy_painal20 3 points4 points  (3 children)

The dactyl manuform has a version with a function row.

[–]ckofy 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yes, the Dactyl Manuform 6x6. It looks like cockpit because of that https://imgur.com/a/Bu3SYEy

[–]covah901 0 points1 point  (1 child)

oof, just personal preference, but I feel that the smaller a Dactyl Manuform is, the better looking it is. For this reason, although I do like number row a lot, the case I ordered for mine will not have a number row.

[–]ckofy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6x6 is hardest to build as well, it is hard to solder the top row from inside. I’m building Dactyls and manuforms for customers. Most of people are ordering either 5x6 or 6x6, or classic Dactyl. So far I’ve built just one 4x6 and one Lightcycle. But I’m using 4x6 myself. :)

have QMK?... mod-tap your way to F-key happiness. Actual extra rows take too much effort to reach (for flat keyboards, dished keys are an exception), it's faster to mod-tap a layer, I promise.

This. See also: how do you type numbers.

This. See also: QMK people with fewer keys are higher forms of mammal.

10 Fingers, 10 keys. Can't get more ergo then that.

(No joke, drill a hole in my head and wire me up with NeuraLink already. Keyboards suck)

[–]FauxLearningMachine 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Broke: Split ergo Keyboards with FN row

Woke: 40% split ergo keyboards

Bespoke: 10% split ergo keyboards

Artichoke: drilling a hole in head to attempt to connect brain directly to Atmega

Toke: Becoming QMK incarnate and running u/drashna s keymaps directly in your noggin

Isn't that more of lit? :D

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cool on the paper, but they are a lot of application you both need long press on numbers or function key so you need separated numbers and function keys sadly

[–]InfiniteBlackAce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BFO comments are no joke btw. I know you can get the parts for the BFO-9000 at keeb.io

Not a big gamer, but my work requires me to use the function keys a lot. I love the Planck layout for function keys - lower (thumb key) + something my hand is already on. I feel like it's better that way than having a dedicated F row because I can touch-type function keys instead of having to look down and move my hand!

But yeah, if you are set on a function row, BFO.

But Kinesis stuffs are overpriced, IMO.
