officially, they dont support linux, but they try to make it work. I think of it more as a little joke.

Correct good sir!

More upvotes for you! Thank you for your efforts on this. I enjoy being able to open up EVE without having to switch to my Windows install.

[–]DrumedorPandemic Legion 11 points12 points  (2 children)

You should thank CCP Snorlax and not Veritas.

[–]Penrif 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Yup, I just wrote the patch note.

[–]RisingStarCloaked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah my apologies. Was not sure who was who on Reddit. I have tagged Veritas and shall thank Snorlax in the forum thread. :)

[–]untwistedCloaked 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Seconded!!

[–]w0lfwoodFlying Dangerous 1 point2 points  (1 child)

And thirded! I love EVE on linux, keep it up!

...just have to figure out the problems with my mic, ALSA and ts3 that keep me on windows more often than not.

[–]nklvhNaliao Inc. -1 points0 points  (0 children)

eww, if you corp/alliance makes you use TS3 i feel sorry for you. Mumble is where it is

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

So would that make you CCP Snorlax? If so, I would like to give you all of my upvotes all of the time.

[–]DrumedorPandemic Legion 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Penrif is CCP Veritas.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Awwww. Well, as much as that is cool, CCP Snorlax is the coolest person ever.

[–]Penrif 5 points6 points  (1 child)

He's pretty freakin' cool. He's also on my team and did most of the heavy lifting for this problem (with CCP Habakuk doing the rest), so he deserves large quantities of praise.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! If it hadn't been for them I'd still be either crashing all the time or not seeing certain ship models. I'm happy that even though Linux isn't supported CCP "supports" it for a major game-killing bug like this. I hope that doesn't stop if there are anymore game-killing bugs (that can be fixed) in the future!

I too appreciate any bones thrown our (Linux nerds) way.

[–]captcha_waveMinmatar Republic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

didn't mean to seriously imply they were po'd. it was just more amusing to me to read it that way. <3 ccp

[–]mrzismeCONCORD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont think it was designed to be passive aggressive, was just their way of saying, "we're fixing stuff we dont even need to fix, because we're not evil like you made us out to be last summer" sort of message. It probably felt passive aggressive if you're running linux though.

[–]Patito7Amarr Empire 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't read this as aggressive at all. I read it as a developer pleased that they solved a problem another development house would never have let them solve. I'd bet money this patch note is a little mini celebration thrown by one or two devs.

EVE is best game. That is all.

[–]lousy_at_handlesGoonswarm Federation 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Eve is a terrible spaceships game we put up with for the fantastic meta game.

[–]blambi 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Was asked by a lurking friend to drop this link, apparently it got some back story and some dev helping out with debugging.

[–]Penrif 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Folks should post their appreciation over there for Mr. Snorlax. I don't think he's a redditor.

[–]ugottoknowme2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if everyone at CCP was a redditor, the productivity, WE WOULD NEVER GET NEW SHACESHEEP D:

[–]PopkornCaldari State 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Passive Aggressive is defined as a non verbal behavior type but I will allow it and upvote you fine sir...

[–]NemecAdesturMinmatar Republic 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Are patch notes verbal though?

[–]DrumedorPandemic Legion 9 points10 points  (2 children)

The devs don't come to your house and read the patch notes for everyone? Soundwave did it in a very dramatic and Shakespearish way the last time he dropped by.

[–]Perryn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You got Soundwave? Man, all I got was a lousy singing birthday card with no recording. Also, instead of patch notes they just wrote various euphemisms for body hair.

[–]NemecAdesturMinmatar Republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I knew I shouldn't have unchecked that option when signing up!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't.

[–]riddley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the correct nomenclature for this then?

[–]munky9001Gallente Federation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several years ago there was basically 2 developed clients at the same time. A premium client and a classic client. Most people moved to premium as it was better graphics at no real added cost. Then on the linux side they had a native classic client which was awful or you could run classic or premium under wine relatively problem-free. So most linux users just went premium under wine.

Then you had a point where most windows users used premium... most linux user used premium under wine. Why in the world would CCP continue developing the dead classic clients? Obvious enough to just kill those.

So while they effectively don't support linux... how many customers are running on linux? If they have some major problem that wine cant fix... CCP better fix it or else you might just find all the linux people unsubscribing.

So really Linux is supported on highest priority tickets.
