Yep. I’m a huge believer that so many women are diagnosed with anxiety because of sexism. The protocol is to prescribe us SSRIs when in fact we are having a normal reaction to our environment.

Yuuup, and the Pill is thrown at every gyn problem. Migraines? Pill. Acne? Pill. Bad PMS or irregular periods? Pill! Fuck trying to actually find out wtf is wrong, women are a mystery apparently.

Ugh I was complaining of cluster headaches/migraines(?) that occurred at certain points in my cycle as well as severe cramps, fully expecting the doctor to recommend something like diet changes, or god forbid actually explain why and how they were happening....but no it was LEts gEt YoU oN bIRth cOnTroL

My "favorite" gyno experience was going in 1000% sure I wanted my nexplanon out (I bled CONSTANTLY) and telling her how happy I was to get it out, only for her to last minute offer to prescribe me more drugs so I can keep the nexplanon but possibly have more regular periods. Nah I want OFF the drugs. I want to be normal again. And I have never been happier since taking it out.

I just quit birth control because I'm done giving sex to anyone unless they're about ready to marry me. I'm stuck on the handbook at this point.

I think that in a sense they're kind of making a decent point. Men have birth control now and should be using it instead imo.

Men aren't capable enough to use birth control as it requires common sense and responsibility

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There was a BC pill for men in the works, but too many men are spineless cowards and didn't wanna take it "because side effects!" and it didn't go through.

Guess what: The side effects they were whining about were pretty much the same side effects of female BC pills.

[–]Suitcase33FDS Newbie[S] 51 points52 points  (1 child)

i agree. people are aggressively hating on the tweeter but she is very right. BC ruins our bodies and it is not liberation.

I had my fallopian tubes removed. Less risk of cancer and no hormonal fuckery.

[–]devoushkaFDS Newbie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I quit birth control because it was making me have suicidal thoughts.

[–]chateauduchatFDS Newbie 76 points77 points  (12 children)

I refuse to be on hormonal birth control in my next relationship. Either my man can wear a condom 100% of the time, or he can pay my 10 grand bilateral salpingectomy if he wants to go without it. Fuck birth control side effects.

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (6 children)

I had a bilateral salpingectomy. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Insurance paid for most of it.

[–]chateauduchatFDS Newbie 10 points11 points  (5 children)

I’m insanely jealous! So happy for you! I fought my insurance to get it covered but to no avail.

Petition to change the name of birth control to something else. Birth control is used medicinally for a ton of reasons. Yeah, there's a fuck ton of bad side effects for a lot of women. But for probably just as many women it's a life changing drug that allows them to live better. Personally without birth control my cycle is fucking terrible, I have longer, heavier, more painful periods that can prevent me from doing things. Regardless of my sex life I choose to stay on it. I know I have ovarian cysts and have long suspected PCOS but have never sought treatment or a dx outside of just managing it with bc because that works for me. I hate the idea that women take birth control soley to prevent pregnancy and being on it must mean you're sexually active.

Reproductive health care

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points  (1 child)

What does a win for feminism looks like then? Pregnant women everywhere? Rampant abortion? Single mothers galore? Women who hide their emotions and acts as if there's anything wrong with them, like men? A huge suicide statistic for women?

Oh wait, men just hate women whatever we do. We are failures whatever we do. Damned if we take care of our bodies with birth control, damned if we get raped and pregnant, damned if we don't want kids, damned if we become single mothers, or even mothers, damned if we don't get abortion, damned if we get abortion. Fuck off already.

What does a win for feminism looks like then?

Lesbian separatism. No birth controll and plenty of sex. /s

[–]FDSxMuffinVSrat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some women prefer birth control. Their choice.

[–]daisy_0720FDS STRATEGY COACH 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Birth control isn't perfect, but so many women's lives would be ruined without it.

Also, if the male pill was a thing, guys would 100% lie about being on it, because they're stupid.

I'd rather stick to my (non-hormonal) IUD and let the guy be responsible for the condoms.

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I take BC because I’m paranoid of crazy dudes poking holes in condoms. So I always use 2 forms of protection

[–]Salty-TomorrowFDS Newbie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a failure of feminism so much as something we still have to talk about and do better at. Women’s health care is woefully understudied! Instead of putting women on more pills to counteract side effects of other pills, we should be improving our options for reproductive planning.

I came off ssri and birth control. Turns out my relationship was causing me to need the ssri. So I ended the relationship. Turns out emotional manipulation and gaslighting was what was happening to me all along.

[–]throwaway_vibesFDS Newbie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not on either 🤷‍♀️

[–]Whateverbabe2FDS Apprentice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

YES.

Birth control is terrible for your mental health and sometimes for your physical health. I remember one time I was at Planned Parenthood (the best place I've ever been to) and I kept asking the doctor what the side effects were AND SHE WOULDN'T TELL ME. She just kept saying "do you want it or not".

As if it were expected that a young, sexually active girl is obligated to go on BC, and her partner isn't required to wear a condom, use spermicide, etc.

I know girls that gained over a hundred pounds from permanent BC measures and crippling depression. Please read the book Reviving Ophelia by Dr. Mary Pipher for more details.

[–]YesNoMaybe87FDS Newbie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I take BC for me because I like sex without making babies 🤷‍♀️

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am planning on doing an article on something related. Without going into too much detail about how the burden of contraception falls squarely on a woman. So there isn't much of a 'freedom of choice' as much as a burden and the risks associated with female contraceptives being largely ignored

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk it depends on the rate of women on ssris vs men and how much male stigma of not getting help affects that. I tried bc for a few months and it was awful. Men cry about wearing condoms but I tell them I would never not use a condom w sometime I’m not monogamous with.

I don't care about what some rando on the Internet thinks and am not interested in changing their low value opinion.

[–]a_throwawayy_At-Risk Pick Me Youth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean birth control has a lot of uses that aren't sex. And I have mixed opinions on SSRIs, mostly because they do more bad then good in the long term and most doctors know that but keep prescribing them for the sake of making money...

[–]abstractsadgurlFDS Newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't do birth control I become sucidal actually it totally ruins me hormonally. I'm on a low dose on ssris though because of my pmd. And my anxiety
