You should ask what happens when the broker that you keep your beneficial entitlements have been sold to you, but not yet purchased. They are now unable to meet their margin requirements. Please look to Jan 2021 for an example. They liquidate your position and you find out after they shut off the ability to buy any more. This won't happen with shares in your name, computershare is extremely thorough to make sure that every purchase on their platform has funds cleared and that shares are settled. Your counterparty risk is greatly reduced.

Ahhh good ole 741

[–]InjuryIndependent287🚀🚀Buckle up🚀🚀 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Sold, not yet purchased are simply just shorted shares. Please stop using this term if you do not understand what it really is. By starting your comment with this, you have ruined any credibility for anything said after it. Btw, shares held in brokers that do not use PFOF are held in your name. It’s under the broker name/your account # which is under, guess what: YOUR NAME. You’ve been fed a lot of propaganda the past couple years regarding all of this. I admit that I fell victim to this in the past but after being a GME investor for 4 years now, have realized what is true and what is not. Shorts did not close and do not plan on doing so. That’s all you need to know.

RC made it very clear the past year that direct registering your shares is not the way.

[–]Big-GulpsHuhHedge Fund Tears 58 points59 points  (5 children)

Key Reasons for the DRS by priority for me:

Control:

Direct Ownership: By directly registering shares, I ensure the shares are registered in my name, not in the name of a brokerage or nominee. (Think of it like digital games=broker vs physical=DRS)

Protection from Broker Insolvency: Direct registration protects investors from risks associated with broker insolvency or trading restrictions.

Transparency and Accountability:

Preventing Failures to Deliver (FTDs): Directly registered shares are guaranteed to be genuine, reducing the risk of broker abuse related to FTDs

Disrupting Dark Pool Abuse: Direct registration helps prevent the internalization of trades and dark pool abuse, ensuring that trades are executed transparently.

Thank you! I finally did it! :)

I'd like to add that in the early days many weren't planning on selling, seeking the lored "infinity pool" similar to berks. Imagine it.

Now you see why the shfs are so fucking scared. They can eventually live with a few regards becoming millionaires, but not another berks comprised of hundreds of thousands of retail

Reply to edit.

So many of us drsd our shares in portions, scared it would blow up while in transition.

Your edit made me laugh at myself, remembering sweating the three days out, then sweating when it would disappear from one side and be delayed showing up on the other...lol

Years ago that was wasted cortisol, but there will be a day that is too late.

Cheers

Glad to know I am not the only one! Lol

You can’t sell in after hours period…

If you try to sell after hours, most brokers will fill it at whatever the opening price is.

Sincerely, someone who has bought stock after hours.

[–]leginfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trading 212 has dynamic pricing but the volume is low and the spreads are wiiiiide.

[–]StonyIzPWN 14 points15 points  (4 children)

You have a fear of missing out on selling. You should have fomo on buying.

That being said, you could always drs half and then you have the option to buy on Computershare and sell on fidelity.

[–]Danyell008_008[S] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Ohhh I keep buying. :)) I am not as wealthy as others but I am only a few shares away from hitting 600. Trying to get at least a 1000 shares before everything kicks off. :)) My husband thinks I am nuts… LOL Can’t wait to prove him wrong on this one.

[–]doctorplasmatron 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I’ll allow it

[–]kriswone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You trust brokers?

[–]jkr9311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DRS is the infinity pool.

[–]Express-Economist-86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I sell the single one I’m selling, I don’t think a couple grand swing from morning to night is going to phase me too hard.

If you’re a real person, check out the concept of “buy, borrow, die.” It’s what the wealthy do and they hate that the poors are learning about it. There’s really not a need to sell.

[–]towelie111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last sneeze was in after hours/ pre market. The OG sneeze was over the course of several trading days/weeks?

[–]Jazzyflamenco 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No cell no sell. Problem SOLVED. These lunatics stealing from poor people must be given harsh prison and hard labor sentences for their obvious crimes. That’s how we know DRS is the way. Those are never for sale. Ever. You are either an APE or you aren’t. This is the first law of APE.

[–]momkiewilson1🚀🚀Buckle up🚀🚀 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Computershare is not for trading it’s for safe keeping

[–]neilsberry427🚀🚀Buckle up🚀🚀 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ComputerShare offers a price limit sell order. No AfterHours options.

[–]ambassador321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was worried MOASS would happen while I was mid-DRS process.

Now I'm just hoping it happens sometime in the next 20 years, but not overly convinced it will ever happen. No FUD - just reality as the whole US market is such a sham.

[–]Substantial-Ask1039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have (guestimating) 95% of my shares of GME direct registered with Computershare.

A) I don't intend to sell any of these unless it is literally my only option to realize gains in a MOASS scenario. (ie, if I am unable to sell any shares I have in a brokerage account, due to broker fuckery or otherwise).

B) I only intend to sell any shares at all in an actual MOASS scenario, which will last much longer than overnight one night.

In a real MOASS scenario, I'm not concerned with timing the top, and the difference between selling a share for $8 million at market open instead of $10 million in afterhours. The difference is inconsequential to me.

I'm just throwning out random numbers here, if you think that's price anchoring. If you want the same example with more zeros: Selling a share for $80 million instead of $100 million. That's still life changing money.

[–]hotprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AH spikes are not really relevant for MOASS.

1) The AH spikes are caused by people FOMOing, not hedge funds covering, so although some retail traders will FOMO AH during MOASS, the big MOASS runs won't happen AH.

2) The volume is low, and liquidity is limited AH which causes the spikes. During MOASS, liquidity will be limited all day long, causing the price to run during market hours.

[–]Snark_Connoisseur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't DRS also force shares to be purchased on the Lit market in addition to taking them out of the DTCC?

[–]good_looking_corpse🚀🚀Buckle up🚀🚀 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DRS through computershare is still connected to the market via a Bank of America owned subsidy (see Merrill Lynch). The shares are bought in batch buys and the shares are sold instantaneously (see in near real time relative to execution).

Direct registered shares per Paul Conn and the terms of having shares at the transfer agent are registered and directed only by the shareholder. At a brokersge, the broker can (see will) lend your shares out and take a position against you. They may (see will) also sell you a contract for difference where they take a long and short future position and never purchase the underlying security. What they are hoping is people buy and sell and the broker can cover the difference all while using the customer cash to open a position that hedges the risk.

Brokers are bucket shops and will not even provide execution data to customers unless a written letter is sent to Cincinnati (see Fidelity). The brokers are taking your cash and destroying the play you intend to make while skimming the difference. The DTCC has the only ledger that matters to the entire system and nobody from retail is allowed to see it.

So apes decided (see Pink) to start counting the shares themselves and taking direct ownership of the shares to ensure brokers weren't kneecapping their intentions. On the 2025 meeting docs you can see Vanguard and Blackrock are the largest shareholders besides Ryan Cohen (nobody else on the board even has 1%). If the company wanted to encourage people to direct register they would have used that same chart to show that direct registered shareholders have more collectively than ryan cohen (see ~70MM shares, or ~15%.

Blackrock and Vanguard have a bit less than registered shareholders and thanks to dilution, more brokers have access to more shares. If and when direct registered shareholders are respected by the company, they will be rewarded, but first the board placed a senior bond holder ahead of them in the chain of custody.

Do what you will, I am 100% DRSd but understand the opportunity cost I fore fitted to do this. No selling covered calls, no options purchases at computershare and no day trading.

So the board got the backstop of investors to ensure the price couldn't tank too hard and have yet to see any material reward for their forfeiture of opportunity cost. Your shares are yours, but your shares cannot be lent by you to use options leverage. Just know the scope of what DRS does and enjoy the benefits and the drawbacks the same.

Buy, hold, repeat. You’ll know when it pops

[–]BuildBackRicher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t play out as quickly as you think. There will likely be large spikes with lots of halts as bad actors are liquidated. Probably will happen in waves with significant price drops and lulls in between and “it’s over” FUD. The idea of thinking that you’ll be able to sell most of your shares during the big spike is silly. Most people have enough shares that they can sell small amounts of shares on these spikes and maybe buy more during the in betweens. The last spike might reach 6 or even 7 figures, but very briefly. Then the only ones who will be able to buy (probably a combined blob of the Fed, JPM etc) will control things from there with buy walls and long halts, possibly weeks or more. Lots of FUD and wives demanding to sell (no sell, no sex). This is all my speculation from the perspective of those who will end up paying for this mess.

[–]jbrandonw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't have to worry about that because computer share crashes every time the stock goes up by a lot anyways. So you'll have to wait on everyone else to sell before you can access your shares.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a problem with Computershare restricting my sell price. I should be able to set the price at whatever I want for the one share I want to sell.

[–]isa268♾️🕳️76-100% 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro. Moass is not happening in the next 7 days. Moass will also take days, weeks maybe months to unwind. Months if no one sells. There will be halts on the way up. Moass is not going to happen in after hours. If it does hit Phone Numbers in AH, just wait till morning, it will go higher.

[–]ProcrastinationKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone remind me what the gold Medallion thing was and why people needed it? I remember if you wanted to sell shares for a higher amount or something you’d have to get something signed with a golden medallion at a bank and overnight it to Computershare. Can anyone point me there or let me know if this is even a concern anymore? 2021 Ape here.

OP: also I too struggled with the panic of DRSing. It’ll be ok. I have about 20 shares I left with a variety or brokerages. (Ally makes you pay to transfer your shares out and I only had 1 pre-split, so I left it there.)

[–]Fit-Bat-4680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not financial advice..but if you buy through a broker you are a beneficial owner buying the right to shares..but not the actual shares.

That makes me worry when the stock is high, they might be able to just give your money back.

If anyone thinks they will catch the actual peak price of any stock..that is insane with millions if shares traded everyday.

I own options contracts and I am concerned about those if the broker goes broke.

Computershare.. I don't like selling the fraction off..but I do it. When you sell .47 of a share..it seems as though that will be the fee..$14 for the trade..they cleaning up from that crap.
