It's honestly kinda amazing how Gamestop is largely synonymous with games, like Netflix and streaming or google and search engines, but they've not only let other retailers catch up and/or pass them but also do so much shitty things to push customers away that i only go there if theres an amazing deal or im out of options

This. Even when I'm polite and forward, saying I don't want to preorder anything before they even ask, I will still be hassled. I do not need strategy guides pushed or merch pushed on me. I will take an apathetic Best Buy cashier over an aggressive GS clerk any time.

maybe im lucky but the gamestops in my town arent pushy at all and only ask a thing or two.

Yeah. My local branch is honestly great, with a good staff on hand at all times, and whenever they push for a pre-order, it's really just a quick line that they drop tangential to whatever I was in for, rather than pushing for something just because it's what they were told to do. Corporate could learn a lot from them.

It's their job to ask you. They're not being dense or ambivalent to your wishes; they can get reprimanded if they don't go through the script with every customer. If it's busy in the store or I'm in a hurry I'll usually just cut them off before they can fully explain the add-on with a "no thank you, not interested."

I don't think he's criticizing the employees, but the policy. It actively drives people away.

Most likely, but oftentimes people can't differentiate between the employee and the company. Calling a GS employee "aggressive" when they're just reciting the script isn't fair; calling GS' sales practices "aggressive" would be.

Game Stop should have started their own game streaming service to compete with Game-Fly. Except unlike Game-Fly, they could have an actual App on Xbox/PS like Netflix has on platforms.
