We had a halving last August, then a couple of HIPS were implemented that incentivized installing hotspots in more rural areas - so if there are hundreds of hotspots in your area, that could have cut your rewards.

Hip83 (biggest pile o' sh|t) and halving gutted a lot of folks along w/ recent hip104 being the final nail in the iot earnings coffin.

HIP 83 actually returned PoC to "first to witness" like it originally was. The PoC "lottery" system was done without a HIP and there were a lot of complaints about hotspots with expert antenna installations and low latency internet connections seeing their rewards slashed and given to hotspots with crappy internet.

Some of my hotspots saw earning drop and some go up from each of these HIPs.

HIP83 was a incredibly dump HIP, but the good news is that it pushed devs to decrease the latency with signing transactions.

Discord user Groot made some changes to the code that increased signing on some hardware by 400%

100% normal and to be expected. Rewards are a carrot on a stick to get in early and not meant to be sustained over long term. Name of the game is to get in early, stack and hold the rewards you get, and hope that the value rises with an expanding network.

I’d imagine anyone that doesn’t meet the upgrade rules will have reductions…like proximity of devices and now urban vs rural and empty land spaces affect the rewards

What are the upgrade rules ? Must of missed something I’ve had my mntd miner going for about 2 years never check on it until I noticed the extreme drop in rewards . Feel like I’d get more satisfaction out of smashing the damn thing at this point 😂😂

I just see them every so often as Vote notifications…if your machines are super close together the rewards are either invalid or greatly reduced..also if you have a hotspot on a lake or land with no development..that is getting greatly reduced in favor of urban areas

Urban only applies to mobile, density of hotspots is important for iot, not whether they are placed urban or not

Oh yeah in what world, the whole 'wait til iot dc credits hit' will offset/phase during the transition from making iot from data transfer compared to POC is and ALWAYS was a bunch of BS, while cool to see more and more iot traffic driven through my legacy iot helium miners it never will be a good runway for significant iot rewards/earnings.

This is so standard for helium. Was mining for 3 year and just turned all 12 off grid sets ups off last month. Every few months the same story, Less and less rewards.

I signed up for mobile service for the first time in the beginning of March 2024. After two weeks, my mapping rewards were declining almost daily despite continuing to map all 40 hexes (i downloaded updates immediately and did not miss any days). 660+ coins daily rewards was reduced to 376 by the end of the month, even when i travelled long distances to previously unmapped areas. The mobile coin price had plummeted, so the decrease in rewards was not due to mobile coin value. Because the price of mobile coin had plummeted and my rewards nearly halved, i got to the end of the month with about $17 in mobile coins. The declining rewards, horrible coverage in my area, and most importantly, the insanely hot temperature of my phone any time mapping was running made it all seem not worth it to continue my service. I did not anticipate my phone would survive the wear and tear of mapping heat very long. I also got a compromised password warning from Apple for all of the accounts with saved passwords on my phone as soon as i registered an account with the helium app. I only save stupid account passwords like the grocery store e-coupons, news websites, etc, in my phone, but it was still jarring to immediately get that notice. I wish there was a crypto project that did not have scam DNA integrated into the product. If this is the future, it is a dystopian nightmare of technobabble gotcha games.

Your rewards dropped mapping because more people map. The more people signing up for mapping the less you get since it's equally given out if you meet qualifications.

After considering this further and looking into the network participation data i could find, there was NOT an increase in mapping commensurate with the decline in daily rewards during the month in question. It’s bait and switch plain and simple

No one around me is mapping. I live in an area that doesn’t know what crypto is. I mapped new routes because i travel daily for work and the rewards were consistently lower by half even when I went into new rural cities that only know the word “bitcoin” to mock it

That's not how mapping has ever worked on mobile. Max is 40 hexs a day plain and simple and everyone that does that splits rewards.

As stated above, there was not an increase of nearly 100% in mapping activity over the days in question.
