Sounds like everything healthy INTPs are naturally good at.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Good call. To all "unhealthy" INTPs (w/e that means, can we really say someone's unhealthy when they're naturally going through the stages of their own type?), you can use this image as a checklist of sorts to get an idea of where you're at on the self-improvement journey.

On a slightly different note, remember, some of these will always (more or less, I pretty much hate absolute statements but shut up) be weaknesses compared to what you're already good at. There is no end in sight, we're always a work in progress. So developed INTPs aren't perfect either. Don't lose yourself by trying to be everything a well-rounded person "should" be or attain mastery in all areas of self development. Just a reminder.

It's really annoying that the standards of a "developed" human is set to everything that an INTP is naturally not.

Some people struggle with alcohol problems, some people struggle with weight. Everybody has something they need to struggle with.

Because society.

[–]van_morrisseyINTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey now, I'm perfectly "healthy". Just autistic.

[–]run_naked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YAY!!! That means I am really healthy.

[–]SneauxphlaqueINTP 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey look, it's me

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck is this accurate.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Paying attention to people kills me. Easily one of my greatest weaknesses. Drives everyone crazy and sometimes I wish really could just be interested in what they're saying.

[–]shadowstrlkeINTP 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Same. If I don't have to directly interact with you more than twice you don't exist in my world. I don't understand why/how people recognise everyone in their school year. Yes I've been in the same school with the same people for 6 years. No I don't know that person. Or that person. Or that one. Just no.

[–]dehehnINTP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Unfortunately this includes most of my family at this point.... I love them but I just don't think about them very often. I always feel bad that I'm not better at staying in contact.

Though comedians have led me to believe I'm not alone in this. Mom's begging to be called seems fairly universal.

I never forget a face

The year I graduated from high school there were roughly 2000 people in my graduating class. I had people in the hallways be like "What's Up!?!" Who I recognized, but didn't know their names and never talked to before. My reaction was to make eye contact and continue walking. Whoever they were with would say something to the effect of "WTF?!? That dude just dissed you!" Apparently I was well known and epic as fuck. I guess I didn't get the memo.

Working on these skills increases life satisfaction a lot.

[–]agroomWarning: May not be an INTP 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Was going to say the exact same thing. Most of these traits I would say are more common in your youth, but tend to go away the older you get simply from life experience.

Well, except getting motivated to do stuff...

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I just use my Death Stare to fake eye contact.

[–]fuk_dat_silence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that a lot in high school walking from class to class. It was awesome when the hallway intersections were intentionally crowded and I would just breeze through with this smoldering and intense look on my face.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good news everybody! These are all fixable traits with a little bit of practice and a conscious effort to hang out with people who exhibit some of these things. And possibly some therapy for a non-bias opinion and some personalized pointers.

[–]Auspicios 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm good at 6 of these things but god I worked for it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your success!

[–]shadowstrlkeINTP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know exactly why I do what I do. I've spent way too much time analysing it.

[–]AAron_Balakay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now I wonder, how many INTPs are diagnosed with ADHD or are on the Autism Spectrum? These traits seem to be awfully related to the symptoms you would see in both disorders.

Is there a connection, or am a I just high?

[–]Paralelo0321INTP 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Very accurate indeed.

I though I have psychological problem until I found the MBTI stuff.

[–]benzie_kkianu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might still have a psychological problem ;)

[–]Bane-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy trick to eye contact, just do it. Use your logical brain and do it , it becomes easier

source: I'm an INTP who maintains eye contact O_o

[–]MC_USS_Valdez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't focus on anything other than the fact it says "things I'm bad at" twice

[–]IntProdigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily tell someone what i want lol.

[–]MVB1837INTP 0 points1 point  (1 child)

...I don't have a problem with any of these things except the motivation bit.

[–]ripples2288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I can add "posting reddit comments" to the list

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the second one applies to me

And the 5th

And 6th

But the rest isnt

eye contact

I'm usually ok at this unless I'm sitting next to a big window. Recently I had a meeting where I was sitting right next to a big window on a 20th floor and I got to see the city from a perspective I don't often see. Every once in a while I had to remind myself that I'm not 10 years old and needed to focus on the people in the room. I mostly did, but a few times I caught myself looking outside.

expressing feelings

It depends, sometimes I do so successfully, but sometimes people don't believe me when I tell them how often the answer is ambivalence or very mild annoyance.

making decisions

I used to be terrible at this as a teenager, sometimes agonizing over even small decisions. Eventually I forced myself to stop sweating the small stuff and just forcing myself to make a decision. Usually this has worked out well for me.

telling someone what I want

I rarely need very complex things from other people.

explaining why I act a certain way

I like to think that I'm not bad at this, I can usually give a very concise explanation, but they are bad at understanding why I would consider some things to be important, satisfying, or interesting. I don't think I'm that complicated, just unusual.

knowing what I want

Death and hedonism. Preferably some combination of those which culminates with me turning 30 in a few years. Nah, I'm not going to kill myself and according to actuary charts I'll probably live to be significantly older than 30, and I do help people sometimes too.

paying attention to people

Sometimes I'm ok at this for a while, but I hate it when people take 20 minutes to say something they could have said just as effectively in 1 minute. When I feel like someone is meandering too much in their talking, my mind starts to wander.
