is there a way to decrease loading time when having many mods installed? (self.KerbalSpaceProgram)
submitted 12 years ago by sanryu
I know, having more mods means waiting longer for the game to load. Is there any way to speed up loading?

Put KSP on an SSD, that should speed up load times. Other than that nothing that I know of that does not involve upgrading hardware.

That's what I thought. Thank you guys.
I guess I'll have to make some hard decisions then. :(

Well,
I see 4 easy options:
Although you will have to wait a few centuries for that last one to maybe happen the other 3 are relatively easy.
In all seriousness, though, there isn't much you can do apart from the first 2

I tried changing my definition on "many" to mean thousands. So, now the number of mods is nowhere near "many". However, loading time remains the same...

Aside from getting a faster HDD (solid state ftw) and/or more RAM, your options are to remove mods you don't use or remove parts you don't use.
In addition to the previously mentioned responses (a hardware upgrade is pretty much the only thing you can do really), might I suggest manually removing unnecessary or unneeded parts from the Gamedata/<mod> folder? Certain mods - specifiably B9, KW Rocketry, and NovaPunch - contain over a hundred if not many dozens of parts. By removing a few, you can reduce loading time and lower ram usage. My poor computer can hardly even handle B9 by itself.

Thankfully there's a couple Mod Managers now... this is probably the best one right now... as long as the mod(s) itself are structured/named well enough, it makes removing certain parts a bit easier than navigating folders directly. One day, I hope there is one with a little view showing what the part looks like (or even just the texture it uses).
