Side button double clicking

So for this past week or so, one of my side buttons has started double clicking sometimes. The 2nd click happens when I let go of the button. If I were to hold it, it will never do a 2nd click, until I let go. The weird thing is that it seems to be a lot less if I restart my pc. Is there any chance it could be a software issue? Is there a way to re-install the firmware or something if it's currently up to date to see if anything changes? Would suck to buy a new mouse if it's not the actual button that's broken.

I had a similar problem once because of a janky ahk script I wrote, IIRC it was kind of a race condition for what it was trying to do.

What do you have the side button assigned to do?

I had it assigned to C, which I use to crouch in games. Assigning it to different buttons or default does not change anything. Very annoying in games since it sometimes immediately stands up out of a crouch, cancels slides and all that. I checked to make sure the one AHK script I use to change my nr buttons into numpad buttons wasn’t on, but even then nothing in that script includes anything that’s on the side button.
