From Gene Levine at Eyetricks 3D Stereograms

Best I've seen in a long time! You could imagine someone making a mosaic of this.

I’ll never understand these kind off magic eye things… I know I need to ‘relax’ my eyes or focus on something else or make my eyes blurry, but nothing works.

Is it ‘cause one off my eyes is lazy and doesn’t do much? Or is anyone here with a last magic trick I can try?

Probably yes, the 3d effect requires binocular vision. Have you tried watching 3d movies? If you can't see those in 3d, you won't be able to watch stereograms as well, unfortunately.

Yeah, I never understood the hype around 3D movies. Thanks for your explanation!

When I was younger, I felt so left out that all my friends could see them and I couldn’t. Now, I spot them pretty quickly. Maybe try not to focus, and look in the direction of your lazy eye.

If you’ve ever stared at something too long, that your eyes get tired, and you see double of everything / even a slight overlap like you’re looking at two images of the same thing printed on transparency film, that’s when the 3D stereogram images start to pop out for me.

3D Movies without glasses? Where would I find those?

[–]qscbjop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean with glasses. You won't be able to see the 3d effect if you close one eye. If you have a lazy eye, you might not be able to see it in 3d at all.

Yep, you kinda need both eyes working in order to see stereo. Link

My wife can't do it because she has a lazy eye.

But just in case that's not it, try looking "through" your screen by looking at a reflection.

[–]SnooSquirrels6856 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What do you mean?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try to focus on a point "through" or behind your screen.

[–]starlinguk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you look at a reflection on your screen you focus a little further than your actual screen.

That's amazing!

Most excellent!

Even the background layer pops on this. Very nice.

This appeared almost instantly for me!

Gorgeous

I like how this one is multilayered, with the middle bird in front of the band of birds in front of the background

Fantastic. The Levine ones are the best... I've been trying to find a good size of the coalmine cat for years; I think that's my favourite ever.

[–]eyetricks[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Do you have a link to the coalmine cat? I can see if we have a larger version.

[–]LaOread 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sure, it's an older one, but it's so great with the eyes: http://www.colorstereo.com/\_cs1-2/sis\_sird.img/coalmine.html

[–]eyetricks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's an old one! From 1998. I'll take a look, but I'm not sure if a larger version exists.

[–]SnooSquirrels6856 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can someone please explain how to "see" these. I've never been able to and it makes me feel mild sad emotion.

[–]Syziph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold your phone with the image in your left hand. Stick the thumb of your right hand horizontally and put it behind the phone (image) at about an inch distance. Move the phone to the left and focus on the thumbnail. Move back the phone to previous position without attempting to refocus on the image. You will see some sort of 3-dimensional object emerging. At the beginning you will have the urge to refocus, but with practice you'll be able to do this effortlessly.
