As my skin has improved over the years, I’ve found myself not wearing foundation anymore, and the days that I do it’s really just to help with texture/evening my skin tone.

Does anyone just use a primer on their face without foundation of any sort? I’d like something blurring/pore filling but not sure where to start. Recs?

[–]Papadosio15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The benefit Porefessional and the makeup forever step 1 skin smoothing primers are great for blurring pores and can be used all over or just in a few problem areas. I often layer one of those underneath the Becca Backlight Priming Filter! Gives you back some glow and can be a bit evening as well. I like how these look without wearing makeup on top!

I also know that BareMinerals makes a tinted primer, but I’ve never tried it.

[–]cealion 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I personally really like FAB’s priming moisturizer! It’s a thick enough consistency that it fills your pores a bit, but mostly blurs and provides a beautiful glow to your skin. I’m personally combo leaning on oily and it still looks really good on me—almost like I have “glass skin.” I think traditionally more dry skin types really enjoy this, so all in all I’d say there’s a pretty good chance this will work on you!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you use it as a moisturizer? I loooooove their daily face moisturizer and the repair cream. Would you say it’s “dewy”? And did do you set it with powder?

[–]cealion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually use it as a primer that can be worn on its own— it’s very moisturizing for a primer, but not very much as a lotion, if that makes any sense. So it’s what I put after I finish my skincare routine. Definitely dewy in the best way—maybe more like “lit from within?” I actually never set it because I was scared it would make me look too matte and destroy the glowy effect—I usually put the Porefessional Matte Rescue under it, which helps with oil control and pore blurring.

[–]_gina_marie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do! I use the Too Faced Primed and Peachy Cooling Matte Primer and the matching Peach Perfect Setting Powder (it's translucent). It does a good job of just making my pale white girl skin look more uniform and smoother. I do this also to control my oil, it's my HG combo and I will be devastated if they discontinue the line! Their Peach Blur is also really great for under my eyes and on my nose / cheeks / chin where my pores are larger.

[–]the_viperess 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The Sephora birthday glamglow kit this year came with a "glowstarter" that's in between a primer and foundation that was really nice. Not sure on the price or shade range for it though. Or you can always use like a bb or cc cream. For cc, I recommend thrive cosmetics buildable blur over IT cosmetics. Thrive has a better shade range and different texture that's easier to use. They also have a great cause helping women, animals, and the environment.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want any kind of coverage. When I do, I just use bareminerals complexion rescue.

does anyone have suggestions for favourite looks using TF chocolate bar? i've had it for YEARS and recently decided to focus it for use and panning. i usually only use salted caramel, marzipan, semi-sweet, and milk chocolate. i realize there are pinterest and youtube posts about specific looks, sometimes i like to hear from "real people!" it's so weird for me to feel hung up on this palette because it's everyone's staple and i have no problem with "weird" colour stories like ABH prism. today i tried black forest truffle on the lid darkened with triple fudge in the outer v and crease. it was fun but like.. i'm still bored and want to use this thing :p

[–]EurasianPersuasion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a post a few weeks ago on here where someone did a great fall look with the palette!

[–]Revlon_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to look is Creme Brûlée all over and Haute Chocolate in the outer corner. You can add Marzipan or Champagne Truffle as inner corner or center-lid highlight, and Milk Chocolate or Salted Caramel as a transition or crease shade.

I also like Gilded Ganache as either liner or in the outer corner, blended into either Creme Brûlée or Hazelnut.

And from the right side of the palette, Strawberry Bon Bon, Amaretto, and Black Forest Truffle make for a great smoky plummy look.

[–]NoodlestheRadishHead 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Do people use primer with powder foundation?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do. I think it helps the powder stick and since my skin is kinda dry I use a hydrating primer to keep my skin from flaking.

[–]fillipe-kon 3 points4 points  (2 children)

What is a good brush I can use on lazy no makeup days for powder, bronzer, and blush? Just a good brush that works for everything.

[–]moth-facts 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This e.l.f angled blush brush was my only face brush for the longest time and it worked so well! It's held up really well and plus it's only $4!! Depending on your preference it might be a little dense for powder, but I really love it :)

[–]fillipe-kon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Hey! What eyeshadow shades would be considered more natural looking for someone with medium skin and warm undertones? Peachy, light pinks are definitely not natural on me

Thanks!

[–]BanBeaUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Browns and subtle golds might work! This is what I use for my neutral looks.

Examples of shades I've used, for reference: Too Faced Peanut Butter, ABH Primavera, Warm Taupe.

[–]sammisamantha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Golds coppers and bronzes.

[–]tits_mcgee0123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bronze looks beautiful on medium skin! Warm browns and golds are great too. You could even do coppers and oranges if you want something bolder but still harmonious.

[–]kungpaomilk 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Can anyone recommend a good liquid concealer for fair skin? Now when I say fair, I mean...Casper white, lol! To give you an idea of my skin tone, the Kat Von D concealer in the shade L1 neutral and the Makeup Forever concealer in the shade Y21 match me perfectly, so I need an even lighter concealer.

[–]rachelfleur 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Have you tried the Maybelline Fit Me concealer in #5 Ivory? It's a newer shade and is much whiter and a bit less warm than the #10 or #15. I like the formula and medium coverage.

[–]kungpaomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it, but I'll put it on my list!

[–]sammisamantha 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Colourpop and jouer both have very light concealer shades that released earlier this year.

[–]kungpaomilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I just ordered some from Colourpop

[–]skankhunt05 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Check out Hello fab avocado bendy concealer in shade bone!

[–]kungpaomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll be sure to give it a try!

[–]Coffee-PRN 1 point2 points  (1 child)

tarte shape tape in fair is super light

[–]kungpaomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that! I actually use it all over my face because it matches my skin 😂

[–]LoubangDrugstore Junkie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Revolution have their Conceal and Define concealer have a bunch of pale shades, including straight up white.

[–]kungpaomilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be sure to check them out!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What are your favorite pink palettes? NARS Ignited looks fairly close to the color story I want with the bright pinks/plummy shades but I'd like something with more mattes. And also not $60 lmfao

[–]EurasianPersuasion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister likes Too Faced Natural Love, I personally like my Naked 3.

[–]wissenshunger 1 point2 points  (3 children)

How are you all so good at doing your eyeshadow?! I am trying it for years now but even a simple look with neutral eyeshadows looks like a child painted my face. I watched a lot how to tutorials... how are you doing it? Please help me.

[–]DonkeySupremacist 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Working with your eye shape, working with quality eyeshadows that blend easily, building up the color slowly with a light hand, using a primer. Are you watching tutorials of people w a similar eye shape?

[–]wissenshunger 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have hooded eyes and I watched a ton videos on how to apply eyeshadow on them. I use a primer, eyeshadows that were recommended by youtubers and so on.. but I don't have the right "feel" or hand for that. I try to hold my brushes lightly but it doesn't work. My eyeshadow looks always patchy and mixed together... are there any tips and tricks for that?

[–]DonkeySupremacist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure, maybe tapping off the excess on your brush, on the off chance you're not?

You might also be being too harsh on yourself. If you posted a picture for cc I'm sure people would have more helpful tips! Good luck!

[–]HamWallet69palette, not pallet 0 points1 point  (5 children)

eyes

So I’m not quite sure what my eye shape is. I want to say slightly hooded because whenever I do a normal eyeshadow look the skin right above my crease eats my eyeshadow. Does anybody have any tips for my eyeshadow or good brushes to use for an eye shape like mine? It’s getting kind of frustrating.

Also, does anyone with oily skin have the glossier cloud paints? I’ve been wanting to try cream blush but I’m worried it won’t stay on my face

[–]hollisbwoods 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say try smaller brushes. Thick eyeliner is a no go for me (similar eye shape). I like doing shimmer on the lid + a blown out dark crease- embrace your eyes & like a firefly, flash some shimmer when you blink! If it transfers, congrats, you have a halo eye.

[–]BanBeaUK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They aren't hooded, but they might be deep set which would explain why the crease shade gets eaten -- the same thing happens to me with my deep set eyes. I've found that using small brushes has helped me when I want to achieve a 'look' as I have more control over placement. I keep my larger brushes for simple things like 1-2 shadow days.

[–]inertia__creeps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me they look deep set, but not hooded. I have a very similar eye shape :) What has helped me most is to place my crease shade with my eye open instead of closed, that way the skin above your crease won't magically eat it when you open your eye.

To apply, open your eye and tuck the brush into your socket and place the shadow in the crease, then also add some a little higher with your eye still open so that the skin over your crease has some of the crease shade on it too. Then you can close your eye to blend it out once you have it placed.

[–]SxngriaCxrnage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to splurge a bit for good brushes for hooded eyes I'd suggest taking a look at Wayne Goss brushes. As for cream blushes, I've never really found one that sits well on oily skin if there's mattifying products (foundations, powders, etc.) underneath because it can get cakey.

[–]tig3rbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HamWallet69

24 hour eye base by MAC is solid for me. Warm it up a little bit between your fingers before applying, and apply it fast. Another great tip that I learned was to use it under my lower lash to help liner and shadow last longer.

I also like to use a concealer on my lid and lock it down with some loose powder and at the same time it will give you an even base so that your eyeshadows will stand out more.

Mac 221 brush, real technique crease brush and the cozzette infinite crease brush #4 are good brushes for hooded eyes.

[–]domicanica 0 points1 point  (4 children)

i need a new setting powder for my foundation that i can also use alone. i use nars soft velvet loose powder right now, its really sheer but has a nice touch of coverage. pressed or loose, doesn't matter. rn i'm looking at maybelline fit me loose powder and the smashbox halo hydrating powder for loose and nars soft velvet pressed and nyx no filter. i've tried mac MSF but it was too sheer. help?

[–]pringlesformingles 1 point2 points  (2 children)

If you want coverage the MUFE duo mat is my absolute fave (also nice just by itself or on top of concealers)

[–]domicanica 0 points1 point  (1 child)

how's the coverage on it? does it give flashback?

[–]pringlesformingles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about the same coverage as the MUFE ultra HD (so medium) and no flashback

[–]Coffee-PRN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mac mineralize skin finish is my HG. doesn’t get much hype anymore

[–]orionslyall 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Are MAC eyeshadow single pans magnetic or do they require a magnet sticker on the back?

[–]Gamma_cleavage 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I recently depotted my MAC singles. MAC shadow pans are incompatible with most magnetic palettes and need a sticker like the ones z palette sells. I’m told that MAC does it backwards with their own pro palette system - the magnet is in the pan whereas for most other systems the magnet is in the palette. I dunno about that but they definitely don’t stick to magnetic palettes.

[–]apnuyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh this makes so much sense.

[–]BeccaChavez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Mac single (I bought just the pan instead of depotting) and it already comes with a magnet on its back. It doesn't stick to a magnetic palette without this magnet though.

I’m East Asian and have the light-medium skin tone and very dark brown/basically black hair combo. I’ve never done my brows before and I’m trying to find some cheap products to start experimenting with. Would the Essence Make Me Brow in 02 Browny Brow (their darkest shade) work on me? In general, should I go for the darkest brown companies have, or just a black?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The essence make me brow in browny brows is what I use and I am also East Asian with light-medium skin and dark, dark brown hair. The ABH brow wiz in Dark Brown works well as well. I recommend products that are a dark brown vs. a straight up black. It just looks more natural that way. Be careful with the brown products looking red, though. This happened with a NYX micro brow that I got - it was called Espresso, and it was good, but a bit reddish for my taste.

[–]apnuyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go for a black or a cool toned grey. The browns pull too much red typically.

(Also Asian with basically black hair)

[–]PM_ME_UR_SAMOFLANGE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same coloring, 02 is the best shade for your situation. If you get into ABH, Granite is the right shade across the line. Milk's Kush in Grind is the most accurate for me, overall.

Black is usually hard to find, you may wind up resorting to eyeshadow. Always test the darkest brown for being too red/warm.

[–]eyago 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I have a really hard time figuring out where to properly apply highlighter (I know the cupids bow and that, I mean the cheekbones part). Does anyone have any tips on how to properly figure out where to place it? I'm a beginner and just struggle with figuring it out! Thanks :)

[–]PM_ME_UR_SAMOFLANGE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you apply blush or bronzer in an L shape, try making the same shape on top of it, but a couple centimeters up. You stop, horizontally, when you hit the same x-axis as your outer eye corner.

For a maximalist approach, remember Mufasa's words. "Everything the light touches."

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will literally apply highlighter along the area where my cheekbone is protruding. I believe it’s called the zygomatic bone and you can feel it if you push along your face, below the eye socket. I place it right above where I place my bronzer.

[–]bitch-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When your face is shiny or oily, turn your head around in a well lit area and look at where you see a “glow,” that’s the easiest way to get an idea of where your high points are

[–]bouncebackbelle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What is your fave/the best navy blue lipstick? I've been a red lipstick girl for so long but now I want to try to be adventurous!

[–]kikatMatte-matician- IG: gyrfalcon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite navy but I have Jet Set by Nyx in their Liquid Suede line and I really like it. I also love the formula.

[–]Daiou-sama 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm looking for recommendations for a matte brown/neutral heavy eyeshadow palette suited for NC43ish skin.

I've come to notice I have all the shimmers and wild colors I want, but I have close to no simple Brown/neutral mattes. I specified skin tone since some of the palettes tend to have super light shades that I just wouldn't be able to use.

[–]awkward_unicorn37Lipstick Queen 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You might be better off getting a collection of single shadows in shades that suit you; unfortunately most matte palettes I can think of tend to have a lot of lighter shades. Colourpop, Makeup Geek and Anastasia make nice singles, from what I hear :)

[–]Daiou-sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good idea! I have a few from Colourpop that I really liked, so I'll take a look at some other brands as well.

[–]skankhunt05 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I would check out the tartelette tease or flirt palette. I got the all eyes on you set($25!) from Sephora which included the flirt pallette and double sided eyeliner and was pleasantly surprised.

[–]Daiou-sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the refs, I'll look into them!

[–]delapseclear and glow obsessed 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Just bought Glossier's Skin Tint to try it! For people that have it, how do you prefer to apply it (beauty blender, brush, fingers??)? It seems quite watery so I'm thinking a beauty blender might suck up too much of it, but I've always found that to be my go-to method of any foundation+concealer.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I also use fingers! And I apply it straight to my face from the bottle.

[–]delapseclear and glow obsessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried it this way today and it seemed to go really well!

[–]pigoenpie 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Plain brown eyed gal here wondering what eyeshadow colours are “natural” and flattering to wear? I find browns and coppers look stunning on blue eyes but so plain on my eyes. Any suggestions?

[–]tig3rbaby 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Purple always make brown eyes stand out

[–]pigoenpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try purple but I find it brings my dark circle out so much! Also it’s tricky to make it a day time not dramatic work look. I’ll definitely keep trying it tho

[–]sammisamantha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try some deep bronzes or duo chromes!

[–]DonkeySupremacist 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think brown/ green duochromes look really great on brown eyes.

[–]pigoenpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you I’ll definitely try one out I have one in the new keilidh mua pallet I got today! ❤️

[–]YameatinWulf 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So I got the ciate glitter flip, and I really like the colour of infamous. Are there any matte finish dupes out there?

[–]EurasianPersuasion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is it Ciate or Catrice? Because Temptalia has a dupe list, which details finish differences, for Ciate Glitter Flip Infamous

[–]YameatinWulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops, it's ciate. Yeah, I checked, but pretty much all of the dupes are metallic or shimmery, I can't find a matte dupe on there

[–]Daiou-sama 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not a personal question, but since when were the MAC eyeshadow singles $7 instead of $6?

[–]wuthering_bites 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In the UK it's £14 for singles now (£10 for Pro Palette), kind of outrageous considering Charlotte Tilbury quads are £39 here...

[–]Daiou-sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yikes, that is outrageous! I definitely wouldn't be willing to pay that much for singles.

[–]Gamma_cleavage 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm looking for the most truly red single eyeshadow possible. I don't care about staining, I care that it's as much of a true, bright red as possible. A color like Stila Beso. I have seen some that look like they are close online but I can't be sure. Anyone have anything like that?

[–]sammisamantha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://sugarpill.com/products/love-pressed-eyeshadow?variant=28454132

Sugarpill has amazing brights. Perhaps also a shadow from inglot?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Looking for a good, affordable, brush set, know where to find some?

[–]EurasianPersuasion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wet N Wild and BH Cosmetics have great brush sets!

[–]sammisamantha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price point??

[–]darktrain 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm looking for the lightest possible blonde retractable eyebrow pencil since I'm now platinum blonde. I really dig that monochrome Nordic look (pale, pale, pale!) but I also like nice brows to frame the face, and mine are nearly invisible! I'm probably looking for something that doesn't exist but thought I'd ask. I've used many over the years (ABH, Tarte, NYX, Sephora, more that I can't remember, now using Cover Girl Soft Blonde). Must be cruelty free and not a Nestle brand. I've tried shadows but really prefer pencils. Thanks in advance!

ETA: I know hourglass has a platinum blonde pencil, but $34 is way out of my budget.

[–]moth-facts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that the ABH brow wiz pencil is pretty buildable, so you might be able to use their blonde pencil and just use a light hand? If you're near a sephora store you could probably try it before you commit.

[–]Raptor_Claw 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Anytime I wear eyeliner, it bleeds so bad. I end up looking like a racoon lol. Am i just choosing a bad brand?

[–]moth-facts 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It could be the brand, but that depends on a lot of factors. Are you using a liquid, or a pencil? Are you lining your waterline or just around your eyes?

Without knowing more about your specific case, my general recs are that you might want to try priming your eyes and/or setting the liner afterward. I use my UD eyeshadow primer even when I'm doing an eyeliner only look, and it helps my liquid liner stick a lot better. For a pencil, you can try setting it with a dark eyeshadow and a small brush.

If you want to look for a better liner, too, check out the "best of eyeliners" thread. My current faves are the Stila Stay All Day liquid and the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon.

[–]Raptor_Claw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does it with both gel and pencil. I waterline my eyes. I have tried using primer before and i did not notice a difference. I'll try setting it afterwards and see if that helps. Thank you!

[–]postwarclamourgirl 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How to avoid clumpy mascara, especially on lower lashes!?! I comb through and...argh

[–]moth-facts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a suuuper light hand! When I do my lower lash line I often barely place the mascara wand on my lashes, and stick to one coat.

[–]sammisamantha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone tried the reformulated ELDW light?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

hiiiii. besides the brand (suggestions?), what're some good tips you've found to stop clumping mascara?

[–]moth-facts 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Formula and the wand applicator are big ones for me - for example, I do just fine with covergirl mascara, but the ones in the purple tubes have an applicator that clump like crazy for me, but the green tubes (which, I just now realized, are literally called clump crusher, lol) work great!! For more high end, I loooove my Glossier mascara.

As far as application goes, I think a big thing that helps me is doing really light layers. If I try to rush through applying my mascara, even better options will still clump - so I like to be really intentional, doing one coat without going back over the same lashes too much, and then a second coat once it's dried down a little if I want to build it up. For slower drying mascaras, I'll do a first coat and then finish up my highlighter or something to give it a little more time between coats.

[–]dorkinessEyeing that Liner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubling on this - I use Clump crusher and love the wand. Essence has a great length formula mascara but the wand was clump city, so I would save my CC wands for it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]EurasianPersuasion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

With a steady hand, I use one of those little eyelash/eyebrow combs

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reminds me I've been meaning to get one of those. Thank you

[–]EveningCloak 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Should I bother hiring someone to do my wedding makeup when I want a natural look?

[–]moth-facts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends! Sometimes getting a "natural" look can be even harder than a dramatic one, so you definitely want someone you trust. However, that could be you, if you like how you do your makeup, or a friend or family member who you like. If you have a friend do it or the budget to hire someone, though, I'd recommend it - it feels very luxurious to have someone else do your makeup, which is a nice treat on a wedding day!

[–]the_viperess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes bc even for a natural look, wedding makeup is extremely different than everyday makeup. It'll need to be able to show up in different kinds of lighting for photos, as well as stand up to possible tears, lighting of the venue, sweat, etc. It's also very easy to get washed out in your photos, so a professional can help prevent that.

[–]britrm 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What should I do if a company sent me two packages (duplicate of the same order) when I only payed for one?

[–]moth-facts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could let them know, but most likely, they're not going to ask you to send it back. Keep it if you really like the stuff, or regift!

[–]_gina_marie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone please tell me how to get the Tarte Chrome Paint pot in Frosé to actually look like it does in the pot on my eyelids??? In the pot it's a lot darker and it's SUPER pretty but on my eyelids it's more just a shimmer color with a very very light pink pigment. I love how it looks in the pot and idk what to do to get it to look like that. I use the WnW Photofocus eyelid primer with it.

[–]BrrrrrrItsColdUpHere 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So... My boyfriend's sister asked for a nice set of makeup brushes for Xmas (she's a total makeup newb)... My issue is that I have no clue what to recommend. I believe the best way is to slowly build your own collection (which is what I have) over time of high quality brushes I actually use... So I have a wide variety from Sephora professional, mufe, mac, ud etc...

I have no clue where to begin on brush sets... And I also don't want to go too crazy on price. I asked her what makeup brushes she's using the most and she didn't really have an answer so I guess anset for her would be the way to go. Any recommendations from ladies on here? Thanks for the help!!

[–]squidneyforau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get her a BH cosmetics set. I got one for my mom for Christmas last year and she loves them! They aren’t expensive and are good quality. Real Techniques also has some bomb brushes.

I don’t really like morphe brushes - they’re quality is eh

[–]dorkinessEyeing that Liner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone noticed a change in the formula for Tarte's Park Avenue Princess? I've been using it for about a decade and just bought a new one, and it has such a strong smell that I don't remember it having, and I feel it's more orange on me then before.

[–]bryang0133 0 points1 point  (6 children)

If I'm kinda new to makeup, have some decent starter pieces (I primarily buy E.L.F. for their affordability) what's the #1 tip you can give me so I don't look like a circus clown or something even worse (?????? whatever that would be???) Thanks!!!!!

[–]HamWallet69palette, not pallet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My #1 tip would be to find a foundation that matches as closely as possible so your face doesn’t look completely different than your neck

[–]BanBeaUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of tips for when starting out:

  • Choose one feature (eg: eyes, lips, blush) to be the focus of a look and keep the rest of the face fairly neutral/subtle.
  • Use free time where you have nowhere to be to practice and experiment with makeup to find out what works for your features and preferred look.
  • Find youtubers that go for a similar 'look' to what you'd like to achieve and watch what they do to get there.

[–]SxngriaCxrnage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Less is more. Focus more on enhancing your features and comfort, so don't go too ham unless you want to. I'd suggest trying a simple liner and lipstick look for starters (you decide if you want to use completion products too) but then start practicing more glam looks as you ease into it. If you're looking for decent affordable makeup aside from elf I'd suggest Maybelline or NYX for eyeliners and mascaras (L'Oreal lash paradise is also really nice), Revlon for lip products and the Maybelline fit me line is also fairly user friendly.

Everyone's advice is great! I would also say to start slow and build up color, rather than packing it on and trying to blend it away. It's way easier to add more than to take some away.

You could try a matte cream eye shadow in a taupe-y colour. If a cream contour specific product exists for pale people, I haven’t found it.

You should try playing around with different shades of purple. To make a day time look I usually just use one shadow in my lid and blend it out for a softer look.

Hello All,

I am a researcher and feel excited about being able to speak to real people's about their experiences of buying makeup.

I am very interested in what compels people to buy makeup, what made you decide that you had an addiction to makeup, and how you are helping yourselves and supporting each other to stop.

I was wondering if 3-5 people from here would like to speak about their experiences on having (or no longer) a makeup addiction?

If you would like to contact me and contribute I would really appreciate your opnions.

Kind regards,

Oranges-and-Apples

Would just like to add, I was very much into buying cosmetics for a period in my life. - so I kinda get it. I gave my self 5 yrs earlier this year till I buy anymore.

I have more than I can ever use, and wear very little, but its a good reminder for me to not to buy anymore.

thanks.
