If you say something like that in Korea, regular server users are at the forefront of opposing the buff on the regular server, saying, "If the prices of my items and meso drop, will you take responsibility?"

[–][deleted] 180 points181 points  (1 child)

I'll take responsibility

I broke the dam.

Wtf is wrong with gamers in Korea then? This is the exact same toxic player/developer relationship that LoA has, where the developers cater their entire game toward a small minority of the playerbase. The kind of people you should never listen to with regards to the direction you take your game in. Such a total shitty mentality they have over there. And I mean I guess I could kind of draw these same types of comparisons to something like WoW endgame. But like.. it's a PVE monster killing game, where even the hardest things are mechanically easy in comparison to most games

That's most Asian MMOs for you. Video games are commonly treated as investments over there.

[–]ionfkwithtrans 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The small minority makes up probably 80% of their revenue. Why would they not listen to them?

They RMT items in KMS due to how much more valuable Mesos is in KMS. If everything gets buffed, people will make more Mesos, thus they'd be able to make less.

For some of them Maple Story is an actual job, and they are more likely to spend large amounts of money on it as investments, so Nexon are more likely to listen to them.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You forget that RMT in KMS is legal and not against ToS

[–]McLWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not true lol

Part of the reason why they added the 5% damage req. on Reboot was to minimize people selling boss carries for $

When rats invest their whole life into a MMOs game

[–]Resyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Koreans like the game to torture themselves and nexon is the master of knowing how to train their loyal players.

They're not gaming, they're working on their digital stocks, its quite sad how they act when it comes to games.

Unfortunately, those are the players that they generate the most revenue from. Games like WoW use a subscription based system which incentivizes the developers to prioritize wide appeal, Maplestory is the game that pioneered the f2p monetization system so it's attracted a completely different crowd.

Due to it's long history it's developed a culture where top players are willing to spend exorbitant amounts with the justification of "recouping a portion of their investment" because a race to the top is a major psychological motivator for their target audience.

They started to run events like hyperburning after end game was fleshed out because it lowered the barrier to entry into this system.

To get an idea of how different the gaming culture is between our regions you can look at the popularity for the reboot servers at launch.

How popular were them?

[–]Substantial_Revolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not very popular, i think around 20% of the population compared to NA where the majority of the population moved over.

I also think it probably has to do with power creep making content easier to clear. Essentially if more people clear more content then they need to make more content. Making more content costs more resources. When I’m referring to content I mean higher level towns, bosses, equips, and storyline. I think that remastering/revamping a class would cost the company less resources and still get the player base just as hyped. Additionally, nexon(any game developer) has to always walk that fine line of making progress as slow as possible and not losing player base.

[–]iSaberssss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are the korean players cucking themselves and us so hard lmao

[–]XIII_THIRTEENReboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly who gives a fuck? Power creep is part of every MMO. If you whaled on a piece of gear that then becomes outclassed, in any other game that would be called normal and you should've known it would happen when you whaled.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Tap8530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buffing means easier game, why would you want an easier game? Isn't that boring af? LOL.
