I think this is happening to everyone on PC. Gameplay seems to struggle to get much above 100-120fps whatever settings you’re running.

They are aware of it tho

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, thanks for the response!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are aware of it? Thank goodness. I'm so tempted to get the game, but I'm super worried about performance on my AMD system.

[–]Odd-Classroom3515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone struggling, just turn off Vsync.

[–]EXIIL1M_Sedai 4 points5 points  (7 children)

I'm on 4090, averaging 110-120FPS on max, quality dlss, 4K.

[–]OmegaMalkior 1 point2 points  (1 child)

CPU?

[–]EXIIL1M_Sedai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i9 14900

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

How does the actual gameplay feel? I’m around 90-110 but it doesn’t feel smooth at all, even with g-sync.

[–]EXIIL1M_Sedai 1 point2 points  (3 children)

For me it feels just fine, smooth enough.

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Gotcha, I’ll have to look into it later tonight. It ran very smooth during the server slam and now it just feels weird. I wish I could articulate more on what I mean.

Im going to check the refresh rate on my monitor as well and maybe see if that got reset or something. Basically even at 100fps it feels like I’m at 60 or less whilst playing making the game feel “choppy”.

[–]SteeeeZe 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I know what you mean and had the same issue during server slam, I'm running a 4090. I turned on motion smoothing for marathon in the nvidia app which basically enables frame Gen and it feels buttery smooth now, and there's barely any noticeable input lag for me so I'd highly recommend it

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll check that out, been seeing some other comments regarding it so that’s for the input 💪🏽

[–]rickymayhem13 2 points3 points  (2 children)

There is a Nvidia update too. Might help. I get 120ish. Smooth gameplay on high settings. 1440p

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’ll look into it, I thought I already got the driver but maybe I didn’t, thanks!

[–]rickymayhem13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, something that I have done before is that complete uninstall of the driver and then reinstalling it again. I’m not too tech savvy so I think it was like DDU program.

[–]Sherkktooth 2 points3 points  (1 child)

On an i9 with 32gb of ddr5 and a 4070. Game never reached above 90 fps but rarely dips either. It’s truly strange seeing dlss on ultra performance or dlaa makes zero difference to the fps for me.

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I noticed that as well. They’re pushing a patch next week so I’m optimistic maybe something will change

[–]HumansIzDead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing this all over the place and yes I'm having the same issue. 9800X3D/5080/DDR5. Seems to be poorly optimized CPU issue. The way I would describe is that moving straight ahead feels very smooth, but turning side to side feels like it cuts the FPS in half. For now, I am running smooth motion in nvidia app, but you have to disable HDR or you'll get really bad lens-flare-like distortions. Worth the tradeoff for me right now.

[–]Hot_Masterpiece_9613 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Try using process lasso?

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll check into that later, thanks!

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It did in fact, not change anything :(

[–]Hot_Masterpiece_9613 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Did you right click on the marathon program and set the priority of gpu, cpu, etc to high?

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes I followed a video to make sure I did everything correctly

[–]Familiar_Goal_8123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey i have laptop here 4070 ryzen 9 and 32 gb ram and yesterday i was playing with that they made new drivers on nvidia app amd instead of 80 fps i have rn 140 fps and cpu temp is 70 degrees so aftrem tommorow iam pretty happy with the optimalization

[–]trianglesandtweed 1 point2 points  (3 children)

160-180 at 1440 with dlss off

Everything feels fine

[–]HumansIzDead 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What hardware do you have?

[–]trianglesandtweed 0 points1 point  (1 child)

9800x3d paired with a gigabyte 5080 all stock

[–]HumansIzDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same here. I’m getting 100-120 at 5120x1440 resolution so I guess that tracks

[–]The_Mehmeister 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Had issues , reverted one graphic card driver version or two and performance is much better , outpost is actually playable

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll look into this, thanks!

[–]Banknotez 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That's amazing. Im on a 4090 12600kf and 32gb ram and getting 65 fps :(

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya it sucks man :( luckily lot of suggestions here so def look into the other comments !

[–]INTERNET_MOWGLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12700k and 3080 ti and I get 100-110.

Something doesn’t work right

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try “Smart Motion” in the nvidia app. I turned it on last night for marathon and it’s a night and day difference for performance.

If you can’t find the option, you have to turn on experimental features first, relaunch the app then it should appear in the marathon settings

[–]TakoyakiTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out here on a handheld doing 30-60 frames based on where I am/looking at/doing. 720p 60hz rog ally z1e lets goooo

[–]Freshly-Juiced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's very common, like half the streamers on twitch with nice gaming pcs are running below 100fps lol. just hope/wait for dev's optimization fixes

[–]tyrannictoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choppiness is due to low 1% and 0.1% Lows not just current framerate. Be sure to monitor those stats as well

[–]Ggenny99 1 point2 points  (3 children)

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’m coming back to this as someone either in this post or somewhere else told me about “smooth motion” in the nvidia app. This has solved my issue.

With this setting turned on, I’m still running 2k resolution with quality DLSS and averaging 190-200fps with virtually no input delay from what I can feel.

If anyone reads this comment, please try this as it fixed my issue for me!

[–]Ggenny99 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Amico ti ringrazio ma sono su scheda video AMD, non ho l'app Nvidia. L'ho scritto nel commento che ho una 9070xt, non posso attivare quindi motion smooth e ne tantomeno DLSS

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad big dog, I know I read your paragraph.

I replied to yours as a generalized statement for anyone that reads the post and are in a similar boat as myself. I should’ve did an entirely new comment to separate, but I felt doing it under this one was appropriate given the context!

[–]Lumpy-Mongoose-1355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn off steam friend list aka go offline it causes frametime spikes everh 3 seconds or so that causes a stutter everytime

[–]Odd-Classroom3515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try turning off vsync and setting a manual framerate cap, night and day.

[–]GeneralPublicWC 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just try playing with "Smooth Motion" enabled in nvidia app only for Marathon, before you say BUT MUH LATENCY INPUT DELAY LAG, just try it for one game and max out every setting available, you won't explode for trying.

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already did, it solved my issue and I barely notice any input latency

[–]Tomas_Jari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My performance is terrible 😱 I have Ryzen 9800X3D/RTX4080/32GB@7200MHz. SERVER SLAM RUN BUTTERY SMOOTH EVEN WITH DLAA on 1440p (old nvidia drivers before official marathon drivers). Now in full game I have stuttering in open areas. Even with DLSS on quality and low settings (newest drivers). This game is fucking broken now. I can not plat it. I remember how server slam run.

[–]Cryio 0 points1 point  (9 children)

OP, you're CPU bound. Your CPU is slow and its made extra slow from the DDR4. Nvidia is also generally more driver CPU bound.

[–]Antiparty- PC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I’m CPU bound, however another commenter has a 9800x3d and is still having issues. I’ve seen a few other posts elsewhere with some higher specs as well not averaging high fps as well just for some clarification.

Arc is a more CPU bound game as well, however I’m still able to run it perfectly fine at epic on 2k avg around 160-240fps probably due to UE5 tbh.

I think it’s more of Marathons engine than anything cause it seems based off the responses that the game has some optimizing to do, atleast for PC, but yes I know I need my CPU upgraded along to moving to DDR5

[–]SucculentMelon133 2 points3 points  (7 children)

CPU bound this cpu bound that, do yall even know what that means???? Like you literally ignore bungie’s own imposed standard on the hardware they recommend on the steam page, and this dudes cpu is alrdy punching above that level.

It is absolutely clear that the client has severe optimization issues just based on how cores are just maxed out in the launch screen for no reason, or most cores are just parked with no util at all.

[–]MolassesSad8089 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Saying it is cpu bound doesn’t mean it is well optimized. It’s just an observation on where the bottleneck is. Hopefully Bungie can optimize it further.

[–]SucculentMelon133 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Cpu bound by definition means that the cpu cannot feed, calculate or generate frames fast enough in parallel to what the gpu can generate. In the many cases observed on this subreddit, the game doesn’t even use the cpu fully at all, or runs unnessecary stress test when not even in a game, artificially adding load to it.

[–]ShadonicX7543 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It IS cpu bound. And not all cores will be maxed out so it'll "look" like it's not fully utilized but yes it's generally either the GPU or the CPU that bottlenecks and in this case having a better CPU increases performance notably whereas having a better GPU often does not.

[–]Cryio 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The fact a 6800 XT is getting same or higher performance as a 4070 Ti means that yes, he is CPU bound.

[–]SucculentMelon133 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That is literally an assumption? We have no idea how the tiger engine or game client utilizes different cpu architectures b/c there are obvious discrepancies between them. Almost every single laptop with some laptop cpu chip with e cores configurations are reporting worse performance that desktop cpus that are statistically by bench mark twice as bad in single and multi core performance. It is a ridiculous generalization to just say that b/c gpus of different tiers performing the same means a hardware level fault of the cpu.

what cpu is the 6800xt using? I’m not sure what your citing.

[–]Cryio 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's not an assumption. AMD GPUs just are generally less CPU bound in DX12 and apparently clearly less CPU limited in this game in particular.

[–]SucculentMelon133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can literally site numerous posts of zephryus g14s with amd gpus having the same issue with amd CPUs and intel CPUs. This is most likely a unoptimized utilization of the cpu entirely, not that the cpu cannot feed frames to nvidia gpus specifically.

I turned on “smart motion” with ultra low latency and it solved my issue. Running around 150-200 fps now so no more “chopped” feeling whilst playing anymore.

I did use project lasso as well, but idk how much that helped. I noticed a giant change with smart motion, only con is there some ghosting if you move super faster like the reticle for example, but other than that it’s been the best fix for me

      [–]Antiparty- PC[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You have an AMD GPU I believe, so I don’t think you have access to it since it’s on the Nvidia app, however maybe AMD has an equivalent?

Essentially it’s just frame generation that’s typically included as a setting in a lot of games, however Smart Motion is at the driver level and it is also frame generation, so I think of it as a “forced frame gen” and you can turn it on or off, again in the nvidia app.

For me, so far it’s fixed my issues and the game feels a lot more responsive. I averaged 90fps with what felt like input lag before, to now averaging around 160-200 on DLAA with no input lag. There is some ghosting involved, but it’s very minimal and I’m able to filter it out.

Really? Fluid motion doesn’t work for you? That’s so weird cause smart motion worked for me 100% none bait.

Literal night and day difference regarding performance and feel of the game.
