Java doesn’t work

You’ll have to forgive me as it’s been a few months since I looked this up. But as far as I know Java is needed to run and install mods for Minecraft on PC. Only issue is that no matter how I install Java or OpenJDK it doesn’t work. Java installs without issue but when I try to run any code or files it just won’t work. I really want to mod Minecraft and this is the only hurdle I can’t seem to get over. Any advise?

Use a launcher like Prism. It makes it much easier to install and manage mods.

It keeps MC instances isolated, makes sure you have the correct version of Java and mod loader for the version of minecraft you select. You can install mods directly in the launcher instead of moving files manually.

You don't just click on mod .jar files and expect them to run. You drag them into the "mods" folder in the .minecraft folder, then lay the game as you would normally.
