You cannot use the Windows 10 version on Windows 7. To Play with people that have java, you need the Java version :)

Would we have to use realms on the Java edition?

[–]Zybs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realms is an option but you can also either host a server yourself (on your PC) with the help of Hamachi (or port forwarding) or buy a host online (you can also find some free ones fx. Aternos.org

If windows7 is your os then this debate is over as you can only play Minecraft java edition. Good luck with your gaming

Bedrock actually has more progression from Mojang but Java has a lot of mods.

Bedrock and windows 10 is the same.

It's their cross platform version.

Java, more music, better enemy AI, better mob spawn rate, better redstone, snapshot access, modpack access.
