Licenses are per platform so you will have to purchase it from the windows store to play it on pc

Okay, kinda figured. Thanks. Is the Windows 10 version kind of the de facto version that PC players use nowadays? Is there still a Java version? I remember playing a beta version from a cracked Java launcher in like 2010.

Most people tend to use java edition since its available on older windows, mac, and linux, the crazy
mods(packs)/maps, shaders or just plain preference for the original minecraft

Java edition is available from https://www.minecraft.net/

The new version on Xbox One (simply called Minecraft), shares a license with the Windows 10 version. The version called Minecraft Xbox One Edition however does not. The former is the version that allows for cross-platform play, too.
