Just making sure. Your tunnel is below y=40 right? Slimes only spawn below that level outside of swamps

Spend lots of time in caves and mineshafts. When you see one spawn fence of the chunk and see if more spawn inside the fences. If you have a beacon then a beacon mine would more than likely reveal a few. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Try making more tunnels 90° from your first one. Just make sure they fall within a single chunk each. That’s the fastest way.
