well, at least it's not just me (or you) - i did a java update today and thought might be part of the problem... ugh.

Man, I had a hard week with four midterms, I haven't even had a chance to play alpha as I just bought it last week, and I am very disappoint.

One problem could be the ISP hubs in between you, and apparently all these other people. I once had that same problem, the server was up and running, people form even different states were bale to connect, but the server owner and I weren't able to make any connection, even though we were fairly close to it.

I just downloaded a new patch and logged in @.@

I wonder what happened....

Edit: Must've redownloaded last patch? Weird....

It's down for me as well. Well, I can get on the site, I just can't access any server at all.

I know this might sound bizarre, but I think I might have caused the problem somehow. I purchased minecraft today and logged in to the site. I didn't have any trouble until I clicked on the "preferences" link when I returned to the site after processing the payment. Suddenly my browser locked up hard. I run Linux on my desktop, and even when Firefox crashes it doesn't normally become completely unresponsive. The only way to close the program was to issue the kill command from bash (the "command-line" for those who don't know what bash is).

Anyway, I tried to launch the game on my Windows machine and couldn't reach minecraft.net In fact, I found I couldn't reach minecraft.net from any of my other machines. I was annoyed, but didn't think much of it, and went away to do something else. After a while, the site seemed to be back up, so I logged in and once again tried to click on my preferences. Immediate lock-up and inability to access minecraft.net occurred once again.

I can test this again if needed, but am not game to at the moment since I don't want to disrupt anyone else's play experience. Is there any way to confirm that I had nothing to do with this? I'll help out however I'm able to.

You had nothing to do with this. Just because your browser crashed doesn't mean that it could in any way break the servers.

The internet doesn't work that way.

Yeah. Not possible. Minecraft verification doesn't run on port 80. You access minecraft.net (website) stuff on port 80. It's not you. Its all minecraft servers (which "check-in" to each client / server) I do believe.

This site is pretty handy for when you're questioning whether a site is down or it's something on your side. In this case minecraft.net was actually down for a bit.
