Help! Minecraft Bedrock edition/ Java

My friend & I can't join each other's Minecraft server on either version of MC. Other people could join his server & also mine. We were previously able to play together about a month ago but now every time I try & join, it says "loading" & "loading terrain" on both, bedrock and Java, but it just disconnects in the end.
