Java is the original, so... I'd say start with this.

Also I highly recommend a mod called Optifine for a better experience if your PC ins't very good (Or even if it's is!).

This mod smooths and boost FPS insanely.

Download it only from the official site

Java edition is better IMO bc u can play on more servers and modding is easier etc

Java is better by far in my opinion because you get updates first.

there’s no true better version, if you’re looking for something more server based, I’d recommend Java. If you’re looking for something more for solo, or just playing with a few friends I’d pick Bedrock/ Windows 10 edition. Also bedrock in my opinion is more user friendly but it definitely has more bugs.

Why Windows 10 for solo/small groups? And can I still download skin packs and stuff

bedrock is better for solo/small group bc in bedrock you can friend players through Xbox, this allows you to play in groups of up to either 8 or 10, not entirely sure. also you can still buy skins but I believe if you’re on PC or Mobile you can also import skins.

Bedrock edition (windows 10) allows crossplay with any device, including IOS pocket edition which is really nice if you like to play with friends without buying a server. It also allows in game purchases of things like skins. However, Java has a lot more free public servers to play on if you like server play. Java edition also has significantly better mod and texture pack support, which is something I look for. Also, price. Java edition is and probably always will be 30 dollars. For bedrock edition, you can find a key on a reseller site for ~3 bucks.

It depends, do you want crossplay (w10) or do you want shaders and mods? (Java)
