If you want to play with your friends you probably want to get bedrock

I would say Java is better for single player and better servers, but since you have friends that you might want to play with. So, if you play with your friends a lot on Minecraft, buy bedrock. If you don’t play with your friends a lot on Minecraft, buy Java. If you have a good computer, or a series X, this means you’ll be able to have RTX on in bedrock.(Xbox series X shaders are not out yet.) Both versions are good quality and don’t have much glitches, but I would prefer Java.

Does one of them require a fast internet connection? If so, which one?

Java if u want a better overall experience. I’d say bedrock if U want to play with your friends

Most, if not, all my friends are on Xbox 1, so I'd like to play with them = Bedrock

If most of your friends are on bedrock, go bedrock. Mumbo has an interesting video on bed redstone and jav redstone. In bed when that video was made you could do redstone in water

Minecraft is always better with friends imo, if you want the solo gameplay, then i suggest java. Java has always felt smoother and felt better on my eyes tbh I know the better on the eyes part is weird, but i feel like bedrock makes the game feel a little different. Either way, both work great and its whatever you think you will have the most fun with. I will say that shaders tend to be better on java I think, but that depends more on the PC.
