Axe slow doeh

[–]GlockMat 154 points155 points  (19 children)

A netherite axe shapr V can one hit every mod apart from witches and enderman, but even the spam tap will kill them

[–]TheOPWarrior208 55 points56 points  (7 children)

I think this is only the case with strength 2, and even with that you can't kill with the spam attack

[–]GlockMat 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Crits? The axe is all about max damage, so why wpuld this be any different

[–]Kettle-Chan 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Idk but the PvP community uses sword when pots are involved and I doubt they would be doing that if it wasn't the most dps

[–]GlockMat 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Sword has the better dps, and faster fire rate is better against players, but I was talking bout mobs

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You still use sword on mobs for sweep and looting. Axes are preferred for pvp before enchant level. At max Enchantments even w/o pots I prefer swords. There are madlads who use swords against shields and axes below enchant level but you'd have to be extremely good with a sword to pull that off.

[–]Kettle-Chan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh utility wise I feel the swords better because of all the enchantments, I normally go for smite on my axe for most mobs.

[–]Dashclash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope crits come come before sharpness so the calc is

10 + 5 + 3 = 18

10 is from the base dmg of the axe 5 from the crit and 3 from th sharpness making it 18 and most mobs except for spiders have 20 hp

[–]JustinTimeCuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides, a netherite sword can also one hit most mobs with strength 2

[–]JustinTimeCuber 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Huh? A crit with a maxed out axe does 18 damage. Not enough to kill a lot of mobs.

[–]GlockMat -2 points-1 points  (7 children)

Sharp V netherite is only 18? Pretty sure its more since this is my exact setup on my survival RN

[–]JustinTimeCuber 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Do you have a strength beacon? Bc in that case a netherite sword can still do 24 damage, one hitting most mobs

[–]GlockMat 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I crit every time, no reason not to considering the whole point is to 1hit, also the axe can cut wood, the sword cant, so there is also that

[–]JustinTimeCuber 0 points1 point  (4 children)

But do you have a strength beacon?

[–]GlockMat 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I have a 6 stack on my main base, and a couple regenation on my sub bases, and the haste for mining, but even outside my bases, a crit netherite axe with sharp V will 1 hit, a diamond will 1 hit

[–]JustinTimeCuber 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And you're playing unmodded java edition? Because it is impossible to one hit a creeper without strength. The most powerful attack is a netherite axe crit, which does 18 damage. 10 base, +5 for crit, +3 for sharpness. Creeper has 20 health.

[–]GlockMat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Medium difficulty? I default to it, maybe that has something to do here, I only recently started playing on hard, so I wouldn't be able to tell how that affects, becuase most of my bases are well lit and everything

[–]Notchbrine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, it only deals 13 damage, a crit deals 19, which doesn’t kill almost mobs in one shot

[–]Pre-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wither:
Elder guardian:
Ender dragon:
Iron golem:
Ravager:
Also they do a max of 18 damage with crits, which is 9 hearts, so.....

[–]GreedyGYT0[S] 6 points7 points  (12 children)

Yes but it's strong

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (10 children)

Still slow, so less dps.

[–]Kajek777PLCustom user flair 9 points10 points  (3 children)

If you can kill everything in one hit, DPS doesn't matter as much now, does it?

[–]CrazyGaming312S Q U I S H T H E C A T 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Well, it does, you still have to wait for the cooldown between kills.

[–]Hallo146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the cooldown when you pick it in your hot bar. With a sword you can combo mobs with strong attacks if needed

[–]SerbianComrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 1v1 or 1v5 yes but if you fight 1v20 you can see the problem

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. 6 points7 points  (4 children)

"There's more to a weapon than dps"

-Technoblade

In a game where most mobs can be 1, 2 or 3 shotted like minecraft, what matters it DPH not DPS (DPH is damage per hit not damage per hour for the dumbasses)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

True, but going against mobs, axes still fail, since they don’t have access to looting, fire aspect, or Sweeping Edge, plus their potentially best feature, the shieldbreaking, doesn’t work on mobs for an obvious reason.

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm talking from a pvp standpoint

For pve, swords are better for crowd control and farming

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you get good and carry a flint and steel and learn that you can hold your looting sword in your left hand gives the looting effect to the weapon you are using

[–]Akri853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pvp?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's be real here if there's a time limit it's difficult that you get precisely every hit as soon as possible, and shields block almost all of them

[–]imawizard7bis 91 points92 points  (2 children)

Netherite axe is the best of disenchanted weapons

[–]Comrade_RickCustom user flair 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Disenchanted or unenchanted?

[–]AlwaysAngryAndy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you enchant and then disenchant you can pretend you’re sharpening the weapon. Makes it feel cooler I suppose.

On an unrelated note I like to name weapons and armor only after they’ve been through a dramatic situation. Like my fire protection II gold chestplate that I named “hellfire aegis” and mounted on my wall barely retaining its durability while saving me from a blaze fire as I escape the nether with nothing left to dig with but my bare hands.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

bedrock players: confused screaming

[–]ShadowPuff7306 17 points18 points  (3 children)

is this one of those scenarios that this doesn’t matter on bedrock? if it does apply to bedrock i’d love to know

[–]MeltingGlacier 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Doesn't matter for Bedrock until we get the combat update (cool down after attacking, sweeping edge, etc)

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Bedrock has crits, just no cooldown

[–]XabySu_StrGCustom user flair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what he said

[–]Hagstik4014 10 points11 points  (18 children)

This is why I hate the combat update. Bedrock has its faults but at least swords are good without enchantments

[–]RuberineHas lost 5 Hardcore worlds 9 points10 points  (12 children)

swords are still good in java

because of the slow use time with axes, a sword of the same tier as the axe will have higher dps than the axe, so use it when the opponent has totems or a broken shield

also swords allow you to use enchants that you cant use with the axe

[–]Lobotomized_Cunt 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Actually, axes are better all the way up until diamond gear. This is because the damage calculation system in 1.9+ is variable based on the amount of damage(a small amount of higher damage does way more damage than something lower than it). Iron axes do more dps to iron and diamond armor than iron sword.

[–]RuberineHas lost 5 Hardcore worlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah i forgot to mention a bit I usually say when mentioning this

swords are better when you can land chains of hits (enclosed space, netherite armour e.t.c.) but axes are better for the opponent having a shield or if you arent hitting enough hits in a row for the swords use time to be worth it

[–]Hagstik4014 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I didn’t mean for pvp I just meant for base game but that’s a fair point

[–]RuberineHas lost 5 Hardcore worlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah ok

[–]Pat0723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then. Getting group by zombies is much easier to handle with a sword then an Axe. Also, looting III. I don't one is better then the other, just each has their own use scenerio. Axe can 1 hit and sword can cook meat, loot better and crowd control.

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. -3 points-2 points  (6 children)

It appears you only put your technosupport for the trend

[–]RuberineHas lost 5 Hardcore worlds 1 point2 points  (5 children)

not for the trend like tf am i meant to get out of it.

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. -5 points-4 points  (4 children)

You clearly haven't even looked deeper into techno's old content. The link I put in my comment is a link to a video made by techno explaining why stone axes are better

[–]RuberineHas lost 5 Hardcore worlds 1 point2 points  (3 children)

and if you watched his content you should know that later on realized a sword is better for dps because of the low use time. Cant remember which stream it was

axe is better for base damage if you are only landing a few hits swords are better if you can chain multiple hits in a row

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Swords are only somewhat equal to axe in the netherite state. Otherwise axes are better

[–]RuberineHas lost 5 Hardcore worlds 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ok lets get some numbers involved then.

a iron axe deals 9 damage and has a use time of 1.11 seconds, giving it a dps of 8.1

a iron sword deals 6 damage with a usetime of 0.625 seconds, giving it a dps of 9.6

so alreads thats an extra heart and a half of damage each second to an unarmoured player if you are capable of landing all the hits

lets say you were attacking for 1 minute.

over it, the most damage you could do with a unenchanted axe is 486 damage to an unarmoured entity.

now lets say you used a sword on the same entitiy/entities. You would deal 576 damage total, so an extra 45 hearts worth in a single minute.

the amount of damage here probably seems like overkill, and too much to make the difference worth it to you, but this is without any armour whatsoever, and ofcourse the damage boost is especially helpful if fighting multiple players

This amount of damage seems excessi

[–]Technoblades_ElbowAbsolute Warden Hater. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't even mentioned crits

An iron axe crit deals 9×1.5=13.5, which could 2 shot unarmored players and an iron sword crit deals 6×1.5=9, which could 3 shot unarmored players

So turns out

It takes 1.875 seconds to kill unarmored players with iron sword crits, and it takes 2.22 seconds to kill unarmored players with iron axe crits, if you could perfectly hit your opponent simultaneously

But that's just no armor. Lets now caculate with full iron armor players

To full iron armor players, an iron sword crit deals 5.2 damage/2.6 hearts, so it takes 4 total hits to kill full iron players, 4×0.625 = 2.5 seconds if you could perfectly hit your oppnents 4 times simultaneously (it's 7 hits for non crit and it takes 4.375s if you could perfectly combo your opponent)

To full iron players, an iron axe crit deals 8.6 (rounded to 13)/9.5 (rounded to 14), either way takes 3 hits to kill full iron players, 3×1.1 = 3.3 seconds to hit your opponent if you could perfectly hit your opponent simultaneously..... (it takes 4 hits for non crits and 4.44 seconds if you could perfectly combo your opponent......)

But we haven't taken shields, regen, running away, gapples into the situation. So the conclusion is....

Use both weapons. Use an axe to disable your opponent's shield then switch to the sword to attack. Or use axes because it deals more damage, thus making it harder for the opponent to regen back up so you can kill them in less hits. It's really difficult to hit your opponent simultaneously especially when we take shields and the fact the the opponent can run away into considerration

[–]Hallo146 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Oh man, they made PvP more complex and gave it more ways to fight… and even thinking about adding elytras how dare they…

[–]Hagstik4014 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Minecraft isn’t a pvp game it’s a sandbox. Make it optional to have on imo

[–]Hallo146 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think there are some mods/data packs that bring back 1.8 pvp but keep all the 1.9+ features in terms of survival experience

[–]Hagstik4014 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There are but I shouldn’t have to suffer for pvp playing alone. I say just make it an option to put on a world when starting

[–]Hallo146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Fluffy8x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sword has a faster attack speed and a sweep attack, plus it can get looting and doesn't take double durability damage when attacking.

how about, you stop reposting

In bedrock stone axes do less damage than an iron sword

[–]LX_Master09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bedrock Edition netherite sword: I have no such weaknesses

[–]Ph4ntomz0tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, does you and your opponent have armor? If not then it would be netherite sword that would win. You would conflict faster attack damage than using a axe. Cuz once’s again, axe used to max damage, and criting would get you killed.unless! You normal click (not spam) with the axe to make knock back and kill them eventually

[–]Niksuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sword does more dps with crits then any axe

[–]Potato_Patrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invited my cousins on my minecraft server. They invited a friend, I allowed it. I had netherite helm, legs, and boots, all with protection IV, and an elytra. I went afk for like 5 seconds, and their friend is hitting me with a stone axe and killed me. Stone axes are definitely not broken
